Rated 4 out of 5★by Great for veggies I used this for my tomato plant and had a great crop 10/19/2012
Rated 5 out of 5★by Best product on the market I absolutely love this stuff!!! I mix it in with regular top soil and peat moss for my raised vegetable garden beds and for my flower beds in the beginning of every spring planting season and it works wonders. I also use it when planting any winter items.I first started using it after the associate in Lowe's suggested it as my plants just weren't lasting and didn't know what to do. Started using it three years ago and haven't thought twice about it. Always recommend it to anyone who asks how do I grow such beautiful plants and veggies. 03/13/2013
Rated 2 out of 5 It was a bag of trash We bought several bags of this soil to fill our raised beds this year. When we opened the first bag and started to spread it I realized it had big chunks of Styrofoam, a milk jug ring, part of a credit card, a straw, a huge piece of treated lumber, a purple plastic tube, a strip of sheet metal and a whole cigar pack. It wasn't just the first bag. This went on for four bags. I actually had to keep all the stuff I had found just so my husband would believe me. All the trash we found filled a whole garden pot. 05/03/2013
Rated 2 out of 5★by Garden Mulch? with composted trash? I'm not sure what has happened to this product because the wife and I purchased it off last year's reviews. We purchased 14 bags from Lowes to fill our raised garden beds and were taken back with its contents. Soil? Where was the soil? All 14 bags were dirt colored twig and fibrous mulch, not to mention several pieces of plastic we had to pick out. We decided to fill the beds anyway thinking we were just crazy only to find freshly grown mushrooms days later. We have no mushrooms anywhere else in our entire backyard; we only have mushrooms inside the Miracle-Gro Garden "Soil" filled raised garden beds. Its upsetting because we've already planted the tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, cucumbers & canteloupe and they aren't doing very well. About 3 weeks ago we decided to transplant a zucchini in the dirt beside the garden bed as a comparison. The results are staggering! The zucchini leaves in our yard soil are deep green and approximately 3-4 larger. The garden bed zucchini is smaller and has a yellow-green color in contrast.“Grows plants twice as big versus unfed plants.”? Not from our experience with this product, in fact it was the reciprocal effect. We've heard of the good name of Miracle-Gro when growing up so we decided to try it. We want to give the products a second chance but are hesitant with this experience. 05/16/2013
Rated 2 out of 5★by Garbage in my new soil I've purchased 12 bags of soil from Lowe's this planting season. I used 10 for some raised beds, and reserved two to use when I plant my transplants. When I poured out the contents of one bag, I discovered the following:- numerous crunched up pieces of aluminum- what appeared to be a plastic bag all ground up (it was gray, and I found the whole handle)- more bits of blue plastic- a quarter of a rubber ball- clumps of fibers... Maybe clothes? And this was the good one:- a whole plastic cigar tip. It was untouched. Not a mark on it. Just full of dirt.I'm quite disappointed in the quality control of this product. In reading the reviews, it appears that I'm not alone. That's little solace when I spent twice as long planting because i spent considerable time sorting foreign material from the soil.So 11 of 12 bags were fine. One was terrible. All I can do is advise future buyers to heed caution with this product. It appears they've had a major problem. 05/26/2013
Rated 1 out of 5★by No "soil" in there! I was shocked when I opened the bags of garden soil we bought - I thought they had filled them with mulch instead. It is full of chipped up wood products which have not been composted. I wanted to use this for my veggie garden. I ended up putting it around my trees instead - it really is mulch with a small amount of compost thrown in. I tested several bags and they were all the same. What a waste! 06/07/2013
Rated 1 out of 5★by Not garden soil, maybe mulch. I started my first veg. garden and thought Garden Soil would be a great start. Bought 20 bags of this water resistant material called GARDEN SOIL. Had very poor result. When watered the top of the soil looks great, but if you scrape the top 1/4 inch of the soil, it is a bone dry almost a powder. And that was mixed with my normal soil. I dread to think how dry it would have been if I had not have mixed it. I don't think that I will ever buy MIRACLE GROW products again. I am now trying to figure out how to correct this soil, all 400 sq ft. 07/11/2013
Rated 1 out of 5★by Bags of Mulch, not soil I bought 8 bags of what I thought would be Garden Soil. Upon opening the bags I discovered that they were incredibly mulch-like: they were full of uncomposted wood chips. Because I was impatient I used the mulch to fill my 6'x6' raised bed anyway, and then planted the plants I had in holes that I filled with home-produced compost thinking I could get away with that. Not so much. My plants all exhibit stunted growth and low flowering/fruit yield. The mulch is extremely compacted which is complicating soil drainage. I am incredibly disappointed, the bags did not contain rich, dark soil like I had wished. 07/29/2013
