My 5 cats and I love this stuff. It absolutely controls the smell and it does last quite a while. My only problem is at least half the time I go to Walmart they are out of this litter! Highly recommend it!

I've had cats my whole life & I volunteer with animals, and this is - by far - the best litter I've ever used! It does not need to be changed often, does not leave slimy, wet litter at the bottom of the litter box, doesn't get tracked all over the place, and doesn't stink!!! It is also a great deal... I go out of my way to drive to Walmart just to buy this litter!!!

I have tried every brand of silica litter...from the most expensive available at all the pet supply stores to the least expensive (MImi LItter). There is no comparison. This litter actually lasts as long as it says on the packaging. This is NOT the case with the much more expensive competitors. Forget "brand recognition" and buy this product. I was changing the litter box TWICE as often with the other brands, especially the over-priced Fresh Step.

As of late I'm finding it very hard to maintain my cat's kitty litter. I went from Tidy Cat to Fresh Step. I stopped using Tidy Cat because my cat's litter would only last about a week or so and then I would have to change it. This included daily cleaning. I switched to Fresh Step because the litter would last 3-4 weeks with daily cleaning. I then went to the Fresh Step Crystals and the first time I used it the litter lasted 5 weeks with daily cleaning. In May of this year I've been finding myself changing my cat's litter every few days now because her urine doesn't dry. It will soak up the whole box causing the odor to arise fast. I went back to the Fresh Step rocks and the same thing is happening. I don't know why this is. I've gone through three bags of Fresh Step Crystals within two months and I'm running out of the regular litter. I've tried the Arm & Hammer Litter Deoderizer which use to work and that's fruitless. Is there anything that I can use to help keep my cat's litter dry? The description of this litter says one bag last a month. I see one person who's going through what I'm going through and is wondering if this works.

  • I have a different situation than you, but honestly, I can't see this litter, or any litter for that matter, lasting a whole month. Vets recommend that you have one litter box for each cat, plus one extra. I have three cats, so that would have been a bit too expensive for me. I have three Scoop Free automatic litter boxes, and they recommend Fresh Step crystals. Fresh Step and Scoop Free both say that the crystals will last "up to" a month, but mine never lasted anywhere near that long. The most I ever got was about two weeks. So, I was using 6-9 bags of Fresh Step crystals a month for my three boxes, and the cost was just prohibitive. That's why I switched to the Mimi Crystals. They work just about as well as the Fresh Step crystals, in my opinion, and the cost is about half as much. I generally change litter once a week now on two of the boxes. The third box doesn't seem to be as much of a favorite, so it can go a full two weeks before needing to be changed. So, in regards to your question, Mimi works about as well as Fresh Step, though certainly not any better. You might get two weeks use before it needs changing, but I expect you'll find that it probably needs changing after a week to ten days. Also, just in case, you might want to discuss this issue with your vet. It's possible that it may not be the litter that has changed, but your cat's urine, indicating that there is a health issue that is responsible fore the change. Wouldn't hurt. Best of luck

  • I have an 8 year old cat who poops once a day and pees twice a day (sorry if that grossed you out). I find the litter only lasts 7 days and by the 6th day it will not absorb more urine. I scoop at LEAST twice a day...I scoop in the morning before I leave for work again at night before I go to bed. I scoop out the solids and bag them for the trash and stir and mix the urine..but still by the end of the week I need to empty out the entire box. I don't understand how people are saying one bag lasts them a month with TWO cats when it lasts me 7 days for ONE cat. Granted, I live in a tiny apartment and the litter box is in my bathroom.....which is in my bedroom..but I still don't understand how you guys do it.

  • I have a large, older cat and I was having the same problem. I tried putting two bags of litter in the box at one time and that seems to do the trick quite well. More litter soaks up more liquid.

  • I have been a cat owner for more then 35 years and this is the best product I have ever used. The pans stay dry and all I scoop is the solid waste. My feeling before purchasing is " what could it hurt to try?" I am so glad I did!!!

  • I am a Walmart Associate & I love this litter. It is the BEST I have ever used & I have owned many kitties in my lifetime. I now own 3 and with this many kitties using it, NO it will not last a month. It does last lots longer and controls odor better than any other litter. Since I have 3 using it all at once, I think it lasts well for about 10 days to 2 weeks. If you just have 1 kitty, it may last up to a month. My store just quit carrying it and I am super disappointed about it. I have tried using others since I 1st began using Mimi and I am never happy with them & always go back to it. It will be worth it for me to "Think Ahead" from now on and order it on-line, since I cannot get it in the store where I work. It is also very lightweight & my kitties seem to like it best. <<^..^>> GET IT & Clean it daily and you won't be sorry. I use a litter mat in front of each of their litter boxes and I hardly ever see them track any around my home (or very little) & there is NO DUST Whatsoever!

  • I haven't had mine a month, however I have already found out in the 10 days I've used it that is fantastic! I foster kittens until a home can be found and have 2 litterboxes. As an experiment I used this litter in one and a clumping/scoopable litter in the other. I've had to completely change the litter in the clumping box 3 times (and that's with multiple daily scooping). The Mimi litter with daily scooping hasn't had to be replaced and it doesn't smell.

  • between 3 and 4 weeks. depends on the cat. and you need to sift and thoroughly stir it everyday. but the odor saving properties of this can't be beat. especially for the price. fresh step is usually an 8 lb bag but costs 50% more by the lb. and none of the other crystal or crystal mixes keep the odor down as well. been using this for 3 yrs now.

  • It use to last me about 3 weeks for one cat, now I have two and one seems to void 3x more then my other cat, now it only last about a week, but I know I would be using way more litter no matter what kind I used because of the new cat and how much she seems to go.

I bought this for the first time and I see the directions say to rake it. Do I rake just the top or mix in the wet greenish-yellow color from the bottom? I've read 2 different views on this and would like more input please. Thank you.
by elynnjean 1/14/2014
  • The whole point of stirring it up is to mix the used litter in with the good. That helps control the odor and makes it last longer. Most cats have a tendency to use a certain spot in the box. You need to get the new stuff to where it will be used. Also, the fresh litter will help absorb urine (and its smell) that settles to the bottom of the box.

  • ALL of it. TO work properly you MUST stir the litter or you will get a big mess on the bottom of the pan. When you stir it, just make certain that you scrape the litter on the bottom so it stays dry. Much easier on replacement day. I just open the trash bag and pour it in. Rarely have to clean the bottom of the pan because I do this every time I clean out the pan.

  • Yes, the greenish color is the litter that has started absorbing urine. You dont want to oversaturate the litter, causing urine pools, so you do want to make sure you rake it from the bottom and mix all the litter (saturated and unsatuated) together. this will make the littler last as long as possible.

  • Scoop out all solid waste, then thoroughly mix ALL of the litter. If not, you will end up with green sludge and puddles on the bottom of the litter box.

  • Rake all of it, ESPECIALLY the urine soaked crystals you speak of, that is precisely why you are directed to rake/mix the litter each day.

  • I scoop the super wet crystals and discard (they tend to clump together), but stir in everything else in my manual litter box. In my Scoop Free (automatic) litter box everything gets raked. I've experienced NO difference between the two techniques.
