You can find a 100-pack of 4.7 GB DVD-Rs more cheaply, of course, but I like the Memorex canister. It screws shut, with threads, not a lock, and there is a much-thicker-than-normal foam O-ring holding the DVDs down. If you're going to buy a 100-pack for normal use, and you need to have them shipped to you, this is a well-packaged choice.

  • A. Used to be this was determined by the company that made these for them and some persons still insist this is true, but reading about this I find that the +R are used by older machines and has a slightly different format than the -R which all the newer machines can use. I know that ALL of my machines (writers and burners and readers) will accept -R while only a few will accept +R format.

  • A. a dvd-r is not re-writeable - any dvd or cd with a +R or +RW can be reformated and reused much like taping over a vhs tape - this is how i copy movies off tv - i use a dvd+rw to record the movie on then i burn a copy using a dvd-r on my computer - the dvd+rw i can reformat and reuse for another movie

  • A. DVD-R and DVD+R are two different types of DVD for your DVD burner. They aren't entirely different, but it just depends on what you want to do with them. DVD-R DVD-R discs are supported by all DVD players and can be used to burn up to about 5 gigabytes of available space. DVD+R DVD+R discs are more recent than DVD-R discs. In 2003, DVD+R demonstrated that it could double its capacity by adding another recordable layer within the DVD. What's the difference? DVD-R is generally used to burn DVDs. It's approved by the DVD Forum, an international association of hardware manufacturers, software firms and content providers. DVD+R was made to start a format in which a user could rewrite over a DVD. A DVD+R uses a system referred to as AdIP (Address in Pregroove) to help reduce error and interruptions when burning the disc. DVD-R does not have that.

  • A. -R is a regular burnable DVD that will play in almost all DVD players (if you burn it properly) and is kind of the opposite of +R which will not play on older DVD players. If you don't care about your DVD being able to play in older players then either one is fine. I always choose -R just to be safe. It is my personal preference.

  • A. -R & +R are two different writing formats. -R is / was the most recognized by most players at one time . +R is supposed to be a better format than -R . I see no difference in the video of either over the other. I keep both formats on hand just to overcome failed to burn message . Once you get that message you have to switch formats and sometimes even brands .

  • A. DVD-R (1997) and DVD+R (2002) technologies are not directly compatible, which created a format war in the DVD technology industry. To reconcile the two competing formats, manufacturers created hybrid drives that could read both – most hybrid drives that handle both formats are labeled DVD±R and Super Multi (which includes DVD-RAM support) and are very popular currently. Google 'DVD-R for more info.

  • A. -R is a regular burnable DVD that will play in almost all DVD players (if you burn it properly) and is kind of the opposite of +R which will not play on older DVD players. RW is a "rewritable" DVD that costs a lot more, but if you have a rewritable drive, you can add and delete things to and from the DVD. I prefer the -R because it is much cheaper.

  • A. RW stands for re- writable. That means you can erase then record again and again. R means readable. That means once you record on it all you can do is read it.

  • A. DVD-R is a DVD recordable format. Data on a DVD-R cannot be changed, whereas a DVD-RW (rewritable DVD) can be rewritten multiple (1000+) times. DVD-R(W) is one of three competing industry standard DVD recordable formats; the others are DVD+R(W) and DVD-RAM.

Can you use the dvd to back up computer files. Also can you use dvd to store photos from your computer. Thanks

  • A. If I do understand your question, whether you can backup your files from the computer onto a blank dvd disk, yes you can would be the best thing to use in comparison to the cd disk. I recently swapped out my hard drive on my CPU and used a flash drive to back up my files. That saved on my disks, and hassles too putting onto flash drive, and is able to be put onto computer(s) easier as well!
