    About this item

The Mainstays Writing Table in Ebony Ash blends a simple design with unmatched convenience in a versatile piece of furniture. It features a smooth-rolling drawer that provides storage space for smaller items such as notepads, pens and stationery. The slide-out drawer has an attractive nickel handle for easy accessibility. Unlike a full-size desk, the Mainstays writing desk occupies very little space and seamlessly fits into smaller areas. The Ebony Ash finish completes the look. You can comfortably spread your workstation across the spacious surface without being cramped for space. The engineered wood construction provides years of sturdy, reliable use. Alternatively, you can use this writing table as a console table with drawer wherever space is at a premium.

This desk was easy to put together. I use it in my apartment bedroom to put my 32 inch tv on. The table is sturdy and looks nice.

    Using as a Vanity

I bought this because I was wanting a vanity. I already had a mirror and for a simple table/desk everyone wanted way to much even browsing Craigslist people are crazy with what they want for a simple table. I knew I would be painting this... the black it comes in is ok but not my taste. So I painted it a metallic silver to match accerssories in my bedroom. I love how it came out. Its perfect for a vanity and as lots of space to do my make-up and lots of room for writing ect. Cute Sturdy little desk. My husband didn't like putting it together, but thats what men are for :) lol. It would make a cute sofa table or entry table also. Happy with purchase.

I am very happy Walmart started to carry this line of furniture. I needed a simple desk to put my computer on, but I didn't want anything bulky, heavy or expensive. I live in a studio apartment and I am on a very tight budget. The design is simplistic and can fit into most room designs. However, it only comes in the Ebony Ash (black) finish. There are no real features, except a small drawer in the middle. There is no slide out shelf for a keyboard, but that was exactly what I wanted because they always have sharp corners. This writing desk is light enough to pick up without hurting yourself and stands at the perfect height. I also bought the matching side tables, coffee table and Flat TV stand. They were all very easy to assemble. The instructions were easy to understand and in both English and Spanish. It took less than an hour to assemble. It requires a Phillips Head screwdriver and a hammer.

I have a 27in iMac that is approximately 25lbs. I'm wondering if this desk is sturdy enough? Also, would there be space for a slim keyboard and mouse pad?
    by JustJerry 2/25/2012
    • Assembly sheet says it will hold 40 lbs, so you should be good to go there.

    • Jerry, I have an iMac as well and it fits perfectly on the left side corner of the desk. It's very sturdy and I love the open feel of it. Lots of leg room as well. I'm 5'8" and my knees never crack off the underside of the desk. lol

    • Yes, I have a laptop, printer and large cassette transfer unit on mine and it's fine. I don't think it is wide enough for a keyboard. Mousepad okay. This writing desk is pretty sturdy.

    • I use mine to hold the monitor, and the tower is on the floor in between the two desks. I added a shelf myself so I can slide the keyboard underneath under the monitor. It's not a big space depth wise but it works for me.

    • I dont know much about Macs but if you just have the moniter not the tower on the desk it would be perfect. plenty of room for a keyboard and mouse.

    • Unfortunately, this desk would not be good as a computer desk. It's extremely lightweight and is simply not designed to carry any significant weight. If you're just looking for a temporary solution, this desk is great. But be aware that it would probably warp after a few months under your Mac. I doubt it could handle even a standard monitor for very long! There's a Mainstays computer desk on this site. It's about $15.00 more than this desk, but the extra money is worth it if you want a long-term piece of furniture.

    • No. But that's ok, b/c the drawer will probably break shortly after you put the desk together.

    • No. A standard keyboard is slightly bigger than the drawer. The drawer is about 1 and 1/2 inches deep. It goes across almost 18 inches, but only comes out about 8 inches.
