Customer Product Reviews

Rated 3.2 out of 5★ by 27reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5★ by Great handling jars, but lids suspect I recently bough two cases of 1/2 pint jars; I processed tuna in 7 of them and 2 buckled but ultimately sealed. I knew the items would be consumed soon, but still worried about storage. I have some kerr jars of tuna, still sealed since 2009 on my shelf as test subjects. I wonder how these will compare. NOT! I think I will get some other/better lids (I need 17 to finish off the two cases) for this large batch of tuna I put in the pressure cooker just before reading these reviews. I go too far to catch my fish to trust these lids with my reputation. On the positive side; I love the shape, and they are easy to handle during filling. Price is good. If you don't intend to store for a long time, these are great. 12/04/2013
Rated 2 out of 5★ by Just restating what has already been stated. These jars will not fit correctly in the rack of a water bath canner. The buck or two you save by buying these does not make up for the non standard size of these jars. Other than that so far they have worked OK. A doubled dish rag in the bottom of the bottom of the canner instead of the wire rack worked for me but proper jar dimensions will work better. 09/23/2012
Rated 1 out of 5★ by Beware, lids bulk under pressure canning. There was only a dollar difference between the ball jars and Mainstays brand. I canned a total of 9 mainstay jars under 10lbs pressure with 3 ball lids and 6 mainstay lids. 4 of the mainstay lids bulked up. The bath water was cloudy so I know the seal is not good on these four.I think if you are going to water bath these lids, you won't have a problem but I would not use the lids for pressure cooking. Just pay the dollar extra for the ball jars that come with the ball lids so you don't waste time canning something you can't store. 07/10/2013
Rated 1 out of 5★ by NOT Recommended Great Price...but thats it.... I bought 2 cases and Canned with them 7 out of 24 lids buckled under pressure and 7 quart jars of vegtables lost and then had 2 more where inside canned the lids & rings popped right of and would not seal. 07/12/2013
Rated 1 out of 5★ by Terrible Canning Jars! My husband bought 3 boxes for me last week of these Mainstay quart canning jars. Out of the 24 jars I processed 15 lids buckled and did not seal. I had to go to the store and buy Ball canning lids and reprocess the jars of peaches. They then all sealed. I will be returning the unused box plus the other two empty boxes of the terrible, cheap lids to get a refund. Never again will I buy anything but Kerr or Ball canning products! 08/29/2013
Rated 3 out of 5★ by Jars good, Lids Bad. The Jars are fine. The problem lies with the lids that are included. We purchased a number of boxes last year and again this year. We were shorted at least one metal lid in several of the boxes, the rings were all there, but occaionally the flat lid was not. Also the metal lids that we did get were flimsy and did not seal in most cases. We had to purchase replacement lids of a Brand name to get our jars to seal.If Mainstays would improve the quality of the lids and also MAKE SURE to actually put 12 of them in a 12 jar box, then I would give them a higher rating. 12/13/2012
Rated 5 out of 5★ by I have purchased and used numerous cases of these jars for commercial pressure canning over the past two years and have only had one seal failure and zero jar failures! These jars are less expensive that the name brands, even if purchasing the name brand jars through a packaging wholesaler. I don't buy in pallet quantities so even the name brand jars are cheaper by the dozen through Wal*Mart! I like the fact that the jars do not have all the molded lettering on them like name brand jars do becuase I have to label the jars and the labels are much cleaner looking on flat-sided jars. I do reuse my jars as well - customers return them for reuse - and the jars hold up to multiple uses. The only downside is that, because the jars come with gold lids and rings and Wal*Mart does not offer replacements in gold, I either have to purchase new gold lids in bulk from a wholesaler or use the silver name brand rings available off the shelf, but this is a minor issue, especially if using the jars for home canning. ***** Five stars! 05/05/2013
Rated 1 out of 5★ by Terrible lids! Each jar lid pinched in the water bath canning process. Had to process apple pie jars twice and only then I received what I would call a good seal on two out of 12 jars. These lids and seals are very poor in quality. I like great value brands for many other things but Please go with the name brand on canning jars! 11/02/2013
