Better Than Expected!

Even with the many bad reviews, I decided to purchase this desk, as I needed something small and inexpensive. Lo and behold this desk is actually better than I expected. Since everyone says that it wobbles I decided to take my time in assembling this desk. I read the instructions carefully and made sure to tighten all the legs securely (some items are not supposed to be tightened too tight read the instructions). I don't notice any wobbling when I'm using it. I think it is best to take your time assembling and not rush through it. The end result would be a better product. I also like the fact that I can adjust the height of this desk by removing a couple of legs. This is beneficial for small kids. The only downside I noticed in this product is the keyboard pull-out shelf. It is entirely too small to hold a full sized keyboard and a mouse, which means having to put the mouse on the top shelf. This can be uncomfortable for your arms. I remedied this by using an old mini keyboard I already had. Overall it is a nice, low-priced desk.

If you buy this desk you cannot expect it to be luxury. This is an inexpensive way to hold light weight items. I first bought it for my daughters school computer, which is a typical business computer with a small tower and flat screen. After that I re-engineered an old desk by Mainstays to make a face-to-face desk for two computers for both of my kids in school. (home schooled) Since I did not need it for a computer anymore, I re-engineered it so that the slide out tray is now at the bottom and it was used as a printer cart with extra storage on top for books, pencils, etc. Now it is used to hold our parakeet cage and their accessories are under it on the sliding tray. So, for $20 it has been a great deal for my family. With a little creativity products can be reused over and over. I have owned this for desk 4 years now and I do not see a reason to toss out it yet.

I found out I was being requisitioned a computer for my home office and had the weekend to get a desk in there to hold it (my home office space was already at a premium). I didn't have time to wait for a delivery and I sure didn't have time to find room in my budget for the desk. My closest Walmart had this Mainstays in stock for twenty bucks, and it's light enough I could carry it out of there myself with no help (I am not a large or muscular person). Assembly is easy enough if you have a Phillips head screwdriver and a hammer. The instructions are fairly simple, yet still vague enough that I accidentally put two wood panels on upside down. Oops. Well they're extra ugly looking, but they don't ruin the functionality of the desk any so they're staying that way. Bottom line: this thing is made of particle board and plastic. Those gray supports in the picture sure do look like aluminum don't they? They're not. They're the same kind of plastic that garage shelving is made out of. Nevertheless, it's sturdy enough to hold my computer with no wobbling, as long as I don't try anything silly like leaning on the desk or pulling out the keyboard panel too fast. This is not a desk for lounging about on. This is a desk for utilizing, in the most utilitarian way you can possibly interpret that word. This is also a desk for tall people, but I get by with it. For twenty bucks, whattaya want?

I needed an inexpensisve computer stand for a small space and this is perfect. It was easy to assemble and looks nice. Once my tower computer was on the base that provided the weight needed to keep it from shaking, like others have mentioned. I am going to buy the matching printer table now.

Good for home computer or other miscellaneous things to have this thing hold. Easy to assemble, for I, an 18 yr old female college student had little trouble putting together under an hour. Just one thing when installing the keyboard tray's components, the little black squares called "keyboard stoppers" or something, when hammering in the pin-like screws, make sure they don't tilt, or it can make a noticeable crack on the finished side of the tray... In fact, installing that part isn't even necessary. You can substitute it with some plastic stoppers and just tape it there or something... Or just skip it completely.

Well from a 20 dollar desk I really don't know what to expect. This desk took about 30 minuets to set up and let me tell you after setup this desk would not stop shaking.so we put our hp touchsmart 21.5 inch computer and had to take it off the desk immediately. This desk was shaking the keyboard tray was so small that if you pull it out far enough the whole tray will come out of place and hit your toe or something, Well I say you get what you pay for and with this desk that is absolutely correct. If you want a really good desk for a low price I would say buy the, Sauder Beginnings Student Desk.

I have a good computer table that I bought from another place. I have my desktop computer with filing cabinet on one side and place for the tower on the other. I had my wife's all in one touch screen computer that measures 23 inches long on the end. It is a heavy all in one computer. My wife begged that I get her own computer desk so that she can pull out a keyboard tray. I was pressed for space because we utilize the room's windows on both sides of this computer desk. So I got her this Mainstays Computer Desk. On the box it says "Computer Stand" and it is about 24 inches long. Well I got this for her being hard pressed for cash and space. The aluminum looking poles were just a cheap plastic, and my wife went to step on the particle board run across the poles to hold it steady, and I heard a "CRACK!" Well that was one piece that didn't hold together well, but we got the rest of it assembled. The top is just enough to where it will hold the computer, but it was rickety. I noticed that the 1 inch diameter posts were butting up against my computer desk, so I bought some 1 inch U pipe straps and secured the stand to my desk. Now it doesn't wobble. It will have to do, however, due to the space.

It looks ok but it is cheaply made and is incredibly rickety. I feel like I wasted my money because even though I bought this desk I still have to go out to get another one. There is no room to write on the desktop and the way you have to rest your arm in order to use the mouse is uncomfortable.

Nice desk for the price. I put the whole thing together with just a screw driver. Really simple to put together.

  • A. Just refer to the picture as a guide, that worked better for me than the actual manual did. And don't worry about accidentally putting anything upside down. The desk still works that way, you just won't have the prettier painted side face up is all. The only part you will need the nails for is the keyboard panel, and it is only to put on the two pieces that prevent your keyboard from falling out the back. The rest is assembled with a Phillips head screwdriver or your bare hands.
