Poor substitute for a Memory Foam Mattress

    Customer review by CommanderDave

    1.0 stars by CommanderDave

I had bought a twin size memory foam mattress a few years ago from Walmart and was very satisfied. In fact, we are still using it and very happy. Unfortunately, this is claimed to be a memory foam mattress, in my opinion, it really isn't. After opening it and letting it "inflate" for 24 hours, I found it felt like a regular foam mattress or topper, much like those "eggshell" types that you can buy. After inspecting closely, I found that the memory foam part is less than 1/4" (and that is being very generous - more like 1/8") and the rest normal foam. I was going to take it back but once it is out of the package there is no way to "deflate" it and put it back in the box so I was unable to do so. I got stuck with a very expensive soft paperweight and Walmart got a big chunk of cash for something worth about ten times less. If you are looking for a memory foam mattress, don't even consider this one because you will be getting a normal foam mattress with a minuscule amount of memory foam. I can't tell you where you can find a good one like I got last time, but this sure isn't it. You WILL BE DISAPPOINTED.

    Great but..........

Great product. I would only like to warn people like me who buy these mattresses for bunk beds. If your bunk bed has only planks for support of the mattress, you will need to buy additional plywood or something to evenly support these mattresses as they have no support or rigidity and will sag between the planks. I measured and bought plywood cut to the shape of the mattresses and it solved the problem completely.

OK mattress for a child but too thin

We had purchased a few full size foam mattresses and really like them but when we got this one we were suprised at how much thinner it was. It will work for our small child, she loves it, but an adult would not do well on this. I also don't see it lasting the years for her.

    • I'm using mine on a *platform* bed frame, and it works GREAT by itself...I added a 2.5" mattress topper for *personal* added height...and I LOVE it!

    • We use this mattress on my son's bed. He has a bed frame that is designed to not need a box spring or mattress foundation. This mattress sits directly on the bed frame and is fine.

    • The directions say it needs a solid surface to be used. So for some beds it will need a box spring but ones with plywood will not

    • you need it to be completely supported. this means you can put it on the ground, put it on a platform bed, or cut some plywood for a base on your metal frame. just give it support.

    • I used them on the slats from the bunk beds and the kids dont feel the wood, but what are you putting them on they are only a foam mattress? They really like how soft they are.

    • I purchased this for a bunk bed that just has the two wires supporting the mattress and I absolutely had to buy a bunkie board for additional support. I would think you don't need a box spring but you do need a hard surface to support the mattress.

    • No, just a firm base like plywood, not slats. I have the same kind in Sweden as a kid.

    • It depends. If the bed frame already has slats or a platform surface, no, you do not need a box spring. Mine sit on a bunk bed, which just has wood slats, and it is perfectly fine.

    • No, it is too thick to fit. I'm not sure that it would fold up without compromising its shape.

    • It probably could. It's very flexible. When you buy it, it's rolled up in a box.

    • The way it came all rolled up & air sucked out of it...I don't see why it wouldn't work on a sleeper sofa! JMHO.

    • It should no problem, however, it's not that great of a mattress. But if you just want something to fit in a sleeper sofa, no problem. It comes packed in a box far smaller than a sofa.
