Best impulse purchase I've ever made

    Customer review by AMFL

    5.0 stars by AMFL

I bought this unassuming little stainless steel cookware set on a whim last January. While shopping at my local Walmart, I happened across the cookware aisle. I "suddenly" remembered that I needed to replace my ten-year-old high-end cookware set, which had long since begun to wear out. This set looked nice, but having had bad experiences with budget-priced cookware in the past (try a handle falling off of a pot full of boiling water on the way to the sink--ouch), I was hesitant to take a gamble on these. I talked myself into taking the plunge because I didn't have hundreds to spend on a high-end set at the moment, and the price on these was very reasonable. I thought to myself, "these will probably fall apart in a matter of months, but they're so inexpensive that even if I only get a few weeks of use out of these, it gives me time to budget for a 'real' set." So yes, I purchased this set with low expectations. Fast forward six months, and this set has far exceeded my expectations. I love cooking with it, and my husband does too. This set has restored my trust in budget-friendly cookware! This cookware is very sturdy and durable--the pots and pans clean up easily, and the handles and lids show no signs of loosening or deterioration despite daily use. Even though these aren't hundred-dollar pots, I have no qualms about carrying a pot of boiling pasta to the sink for draining. I do wish that the set came with a larger frying/saute pan, but that's a minor issue. Obviously, this isn't a restaurant quality set, but frankly, most people don't need industrial-strength cookware in the home. If you're on the fence about whether or not to buy this set, I can assure you it's an excellent value, and I'd buy it all over again!

Cooking With Stainless, What You Need To Know

    Customer review by Rpen

    5.0 stars by Rpen

I have always wanted to get away from cooking with the cheap non-stick cookware incase the health claims about it are true but buying an expensive set wasn't in the cards. I saw this set at Walmart and couldn't help but give it a try. They are amazing!!! If you already know how to cook with 3ply Stainless Steel Pans than stop here and buy these babies if not keep reading because I did the research to cook with these guys for you... Weight: My moms $500 set is so heavy to use they hurt my wrists to lift and she finally gave them away. These have durable thick 3ply bottoms for even heat distribution but thinner sides so they are a joy to cook with. Temperature and Non-Stick how to cook: 3ply Stainless is efficient at conducting heat so it doesn't need the high heats that other pans use. The key to cooking with stainless is using the right temperature before you put your oil or food in. To find the right temperature on your stove. . .turn the heat on somewhere from low to medium wait a minute or 2 and flick a little drop of water in the pan. If it bounces around like a ball dancing then you are at the right temperature to put your oil in. If you have waited 5 minutes and you still can't get water to bounce than turn the heat up a nudge, wait and try again...when water bounces...this is your low/base setting so remember it for future use. Now you are ready to add a small amount of oil, let it warm for a minute than role it around in the pan so the bottom is covered and shiny let it warm for a minute. At this temperature is where I saute veggies, cook soups, eggs, tofu. If I am cooking steak I nudge up more towards medium once the oil is in and let it sit there for a few minutes before I lay my meat in (if your oil starts to vapor put your steak in immediately). For chicken I put it all the way up to medium once the oil is in, wait a few minutes than put the chicken in. You will get some brown bits on the bottom but trust me that is the good stuff. When the meat is done, put it on a plate than pour a bit of wine or water in your pan and scrape the bottom and stir until it's brown and the scrapings are off and pour it on your die for. You will get brown bits on the bottom because of the fat and drippings coming off your meat but they aren't stuck on there it's just the brownings. For things like veggies there is never even a residue on my pans. If your pans are getting discolored or the handles are to hot to touch then odds are you are cooking at too high a temperature. When I simmer soup for a few hours my handles do get quite warm but so far not to the point I can't hang on to them like a warm mug of tea. So far I haven't needed to go beyond Medium Heat on my stove. These are so easy to clean, food does not stick if you cook properly so play with them...if you don't love them than go watch youtube videos on cooking with stainless steel. I guarantee you will love them soon enough. Durability: I don't know yet since I haven't had them that long but they seem really durable to me. The handles are welded so you can put these in the oven up to 350 degrees and the lids are really solid. The walls tulip out at the top for the lids to fit in when cooking so if you are simmering it doesn't make a mess with steam dripping down the sides. The dimensions are well thought out too...the 5 quart sounds big but instead of going way wide with it they went taller so it doesn't seem like a monster on my stove like my old 5 quart. All and all, these are high quality, so well thought out, and look like an expensive set of cookware...what more could you ask for.

the best SS cookware you can buy under $50

I bought the set just before Thanksgiving, and it arrived just afterward. The shipping from site to store took about a week, which was to be expected, and to my surprise, I discovered the cookware to be triple boxed. Yes, the retail box contained yet another box containing the cookware. Guess it doesn't take much to impress me, but that extensive packaging guarantees that unless the main box looks like it's been through a trash compactor, your cookware won't have so much as a ding. It came with carefully polished cooking utensils, one solid spoon, one slotted, and one spatula. At first glance, one would think they would scratch up the cookware, but they were carefully machined to prevent any such damage. Another plus is the fact that there are no easily broken plastic handles in the cookware itself or the lids. Everything is stainless steel, and the grips on the lids are screwed in place. The handles on the pots themselves are tack welded, however, and appear to require rather gentle handling, as the welds do not appear to be very strong. Took off a star across the board for this fact and the fact that the steel used in the construction is very thin and discoloration of the bottoms has already begun. Overall, the set is a very good buy for people who are just starting out, and will certainly last the few years it takes to get out of college and/or get on one's feet and get a better set. For the price, only cast iron cookware is superior, but unless one owns the old school coil burner stoves, cast iron would not be advisable.

I hoping it's lighter in weight as I would like to purchase it. Thank you.

    • A. It is really light weight. I have seen other pans just as light weight but I've definitely felt heavier pans. The handles are hollow which makes them lighter.

    • A. Yes, they are a bit lighter, which make them easier to handle. They feature a tri-ply bottom for even heat distribution and compatibility with all cooktops. The tempered glass lids allow you to monitor your cooking progress and the cookware is dishwasher-safe.

    • A. Overall, yes they are lighter. However, they seem to be weighted on the bottom. I like that feature. They spread out the heat well. I am fully satisfied with the weight, quality, and appearance.

    • A. In my opinion it is lighter. I have some Wolfgang Puck stainless steel pots and pans and they are great but very heavy. These are easy to manage but the performance is still good as long as you follow the suggested cooking and cleaning directions. I've had mine for 10 months and it still looks good and performs well.
