All that I have seen have a compressor, but I assure you that you will not even be able to hear this one run.

Yes..it's the general purpose of making things cold or to freeze. Even our cars have compressors for our AC.

Ice maker of this size may or may not have a compressor. It depends on the design spec. In place of compressor, they can use a semiconductor thermoelectric heat/cool pump working on the principles of the Peltier-Seebeck effect. This is what they use on some of the portable cooler/refrigator.

Without measuring let me try this...
The smallest cubes will be about the size of the last joint of your pinky (little finger) and the largest will be about the size of last joint of your thump. They will probably be larger than this, but I am a very large man and this is the easiest way I can think to describe the size. I think you will find that the largest setting will give you the best ice for beverages.

The are round cubes with a hole in the middle. The largest is about the size of your 1st joint on your index finger and the smallest I think would easily go into a water bottle.
It is about 1" to 1 1/4 " and about 3/4" diameter.

The size you would normally get for a mixed drink, a little smaller than a cube.

See my review for photos of the cubes and description of size. Small is 1 inch outside diameter and almost 1.25 inch tall. The inside diameter hole is just over 3/8 inch.

It is hollow dome shaped, one inch around at the base and one inch tall.

The "small" ice cube size is roughly the size of a grape, with a hollow indentation where the cooling fin was. The first ice cubes it makes are very small and thin; give it an hour or so to get up to speed.

All the cubes are about the same size. The difference is the thickness of the cube. The size is really based on thickness of the cube. So, assume a small cube is 1/8 of an inch thick, medium is 1/4 of an inch and large is up to 1/2 inch thick. They're all less than 2 inches tall by 1 inch or more round. The size is based on the amount of time the freezing coils sit in the water bath. As time passes, all the cubes melt over time and the water gets recycled. I now use this instead of my slow fridge icemaker. I use only filtered water.

It lasts a long time, but wouldn't advise to run any electrical machine all night or day unattended. The Gallon of water last until I go to bed at 10. I start early in the Morning.

Yes, the machine will stop making ice when it runs out of water. It will also stop making ice when the basket is full. Yes, you can leave it running overnight or while away during the day, but again it will stop when the basket is full and only start making ice again when the ice has either been removed or melts. The water from the melted ice drains back into the reservoir and is made into ice again.

I leave mine on all the time. Every couple of days I freeze any icecubes that are left and add more water.

The machine will recycle ice (melt existing and refreeze) after a couple of hours. We use a lot of ice and have only refilled it twice in the last week. It runs constantly at our house and always has ice available.

About 6 hours. It turns off when the water runs out. You can let it run all night for a full bin. It will turn off when the bin is full and turn back on when the ice has melted and it needs to make more. It recommends to dump and refresh the water after 24 hours. This recycles the water through the system at all times. No water waste. This is a fill line you shouldn't go above because then the water will be beyond the ice bin and will start melting ice.

If you start with a full unit, until you take out ice over a couple of days it would not need to shut off. I run mine 24/7 and it sits on my kitchen counter. I put in purified water and get great tasting ice. My dog loves to eat it while he will not touch the ice from our fridge.

A gallon of water will last a couple hours but it will fill the ice holder before that and stop making cubes. The it will melt and start over again.

It works fast though. You could wait until you get home and have ice in 10 minutes.

The water in the reservoir is enough to probably fill the hopper two or three times. Unless you are using a lot of ice, adding water is every few days. We leave ours turned on all the time; when the hopper is full a sensor turns it off. If the ice melts or you take some out for use, the unit starts making again.

Yes. Once the unit is out of water it will turn off. You can have it running but i would not recommend having it run all day long. We do not have info on how long certain amounts of water last. I am sorry for this inconvenience.
