Karen Kingsbury was born in Fairfax, Virginia on June 8, 1963. She received a B.A. in journalism from California State University, Northridge in 1986. After graduation, she became a full-time reporter for the Los Angeles Times. Her first book, Missy's Murder, was published in 1992. She wrote three more true crime novels and four collections of answered prayers and miracle stories before transitioning to inspirational fiction in 1998. Her first inspirational fiction novel was Where Yesterday Lives.
Popular series she has penned include the Redemption, Firstborn, and Sunrise series, and she has also written the nonfiction Miracle Books collection, gift books, and children's books. She has won several Retailer's Choice Awards, plus 2005 and 2007 Gold Medallions for Oceans Apart and Ever After, respectively. Her title Longing made the New York Times Best Seller list for 2011and her title Coming Home - The Baxter Family: A Story of Undying Hope made the 2012 New York Times Best Seller List.
Kingsbury's third title about struggling actress Bailey Flanigan (Leaving; Learning) picks up her story in Hollywood, where Brandon Paul, her one-time costar, is wooing her with a more upscale life than she could ever have with Cody Coleman. Meanwhile, Cody is enjoying the success that has come from coaching small-town football. He's also getting closer to another woman who seems to understand him better than Bailey did. Can Cody and Bailey find their way back to one another.
VERDICT Readers who were disappointed with the second book will be glad to see Kingsbury moving forward with Bailey and Cody's story. Still, it's nowhere near as promising as the first volume. Bailey is just not likable, and readers will again root for Cody. For better inspirational fiction about actresses, try Christopher Coppernoll's Screen Play.

Longing, book three in the Bailey Flanigan Series, picks up where Learning ended. After a long and lonely silence from Cody Coleman, Bailey Flanigan becomes closer to her one-time Hollywood co-star, Brandon Paul. Nights on the town in New York City and long talks on the balcony of Brandon's Malibu Beach home make Bailey dizzy with new feelings and cause her to wonder if her days with Cody are over forever.
Meanwhile, Cody's work coaching a small-town football team has brought him and his players national attention. In the midst of the celebration and success, Cody finds himself much closer to a woman who seems to better understand him and his new life. Even so, never does much time go by without Bailey and Cody experiencing deep feelings of longing for each other, longing both for the past and for answers before they can move forward.
Will an unexpected loss be the turning point for Cody? Will Cody and Bailey find a way back together again for the first time in more than a year? And if they do, will their brief time together be enough to help them remember all they've been longing for?
