Perfect Grilled Pizzas!
7/15/2010

Customer review by creativeShredR

We make our own pizzas quite often since it's just 2 of us. It's tasty and very inexpensive. I mean I don't have time/experience to make dough (yet), but at $1.50 or less, plus a can of tomato paste (with water, sugar and seasonings)...the rest of the toppings are the most expensive part. For a $6 meal it's awesome. And cooking things on the grill is what we do most of the time, but when we are starving or get home late from work, we don't have the time to heat up the coals and let the heat temp even out. If you're not careful and quick about putting together a pizza over a 100 degree grill, you will burn it. The cast iron pan heats up, evenly, quickly and makes cooking a pizza fun. Cooks it through without a problem and is larger than the old pizza pan we were using for transport. Nice and heavy, exactly what I expect from Lodge brand. Goes in the stove and works just as well for holding a frozen pizza. Highly recommended!

This pan performs extremely well, just as stated in other reviews. It is very heavy. The size is medium-large. Although the literature states that it is "pre-seasoned," I followed recommendations to season it further. I rubbed it lightly with canola oil and placed in in a 350° oven, upside down, for one hour and let it cool to room temperature. The extra oil dripped off onto an aluminum covered tray. The pan was than shiny and not at all sticky; so, a totally non-stick surface resulted from the second seasoning. My first pizza had a wonderfully crisp crust which cooked completely in just 12 minutes at 475° and it was reviewed very favorably by my guests. After serving, I scraped any pizza residue from the pan with a flat wooden spatula, re-oiled it and placed it back into the still warm oven to dry. Thus, the seasoning continues! I look forward to many more delicious results from this really great pizza pan.

Wow! It makes awesome pizza. Looks just like restaurant bought! Nice thick crust, n cooks pizza good. The way I like it, not burnt on bottom. Just put some corn meal at bottom, to keep dough raised from pan, n it comes out nice n crusty when u fold it in half to eat, n not dark or burnt at bottom. The handles on it are nice n thick. Very heavy n well made pan. Thanx lodge. Debbie

I have been cooking pizzas for years in both my oven and BBQ grill using a pizza stone. No more heating the stone for an hour! No more cracked/broken stones! I just assemble the pizza in the (cold) pan and set it in my 450 degree grill/oven and 7-10 minutes later I have a pizza that rivals any stone pizza. The crust is evenly browned. The pizza stays hot longer when serving. I have just ordered a second pan.

I've been cooking homemade pizza once a week for years and this pan beats anything else I've used in the past. I have an expensive stone, and multiple aluminum pans, and nothing compares to this . I am a big fan of cast iron cookware and never knew Lodge made this pan. When i saw it on a TV show, i immediately bought this. The raised edges are a great feature of this pan to prevent dripping in oven. The handles are great compared to the stone i have and the crust is nicely crisp and your pizza remains hot once you remove it from the oven. Nothing like Lodge when it comes to cast iron!!! I'm thinking i should have bought 2 of these. You can use on the grill and stovetop for other uses also.

This great 14" flat cast iron pan fits perfectly on my camp chef grill. I've cooked up steaks, peppers and onions so far, and plan on cooking bacon, pancakes and eggs next. I'll eventually get to the pizza, but I'm having too much fun utilizing it for everything else! Not just for pizza, is what some one said and they were right! Another great piece of cast iron added to my collection.

Despite the fact that Lodge says they preseason their products, I have found that if you don't season it yourself you will run into problems. Other than that, this is a great pizza pan.

Best cast iron pizza pan around
7/14/2012

Customer review by Raven0512

First off, Lodge is continually setting the standard for cast iron cookware. There are other brands out there to be had if one chooses though. I looked around, and shopped around for a cast iron pizza pan before deciding on this Lodge brand pan. I had found another brand that was a local purchase, but the quality of the pan was terrible compared to Lodge, and it was more expensive to boot. I found the Lodge pan on Walmart.com, and it was free site to store shipping, which is huge when you consider the weight for shipping cast iron. The pan arrived at our local store within a few days, and I was notified via email and txt message, so I could pick it up. We have cooked pizza on this pan twice sense it arrived. I like to use it on the charcoal grill to get that brick oven flavor. It worked wonderful both times, with no sticking to the pan. It gave the crust a nice dark crunch and was cooked within 10-12 minutes. I have also used this pan as a "heat sync and heat defusser" in my charcoal griller/smoker below the meat rack, for indirect cooking and to stabilize the temperature in long "low and slow" meat smoking. Any future purchases of cast iron cookware will be Lodge brand for me. The quality is top notch, and it is still made right here in the USA (I think the enamel coated versions are made in china). We have to continue to support our American workers and try to keep them employed. There you have it. Cheaper than other brands, quality much better, built to last a lifetime or more, pizza turns out excellent and it's made in the USA!

I came close to buying a pizza stone and came across this pan just in the nick of time! I'm so glad I bought this and not a stone. I read too many reviews about stones breaking. This pan is really nonstick, too. I put just a drizzle of olive oil, and really, I probably don't even need that. I preheat it in the oven while rolling my dough. Then, I take it out of the oven and place pizza dough on, and quickly add my sauce, cheese, and toppings. Then back into the oven until cheese and toppings look done, about 13-15 min. This pan has made pizza making easy. It's very easy to clean! I think it can also double as a griddle if used over a wider burner, or preheated in oven before placing on smaller stovetop burner, although I have not tried this. But what an awesome pizza pan!

Makes Crispy Crusts

I ordered this online and picked it up at a store to prevent it from getting damaged during delivery. I seasoned it before using - based on instructions. To make pizza, I preheated the oven with the pizza pan in it to 500. I rolled out my crust really thin on parchment paper, I put a thin layer of olive oil on the crust, and put the parchment and crust on the pizza pan and baked for 5 minutes. I then took the pan/crust out of the oven, removed the parchment paper, put all of the pizza topping on top, and baked the pizza. The crust was crispy and the pizza was perfect!
