    I was looking for a replacement for a Calphalon non-stick grill pan because it was terrible to clean. No matter what I did - spray with cooking spray, use lower heat, use higher heat, boil water in it after cooking - I could never get it clean enough to make me happy. I researched different products and Lodge grills got consistently great reviews. I couldn't be happier! After letting the grill cool, I just use really hot water and a stiff toothbrush to clean the ridges. One other thing I've read and tried was putting some sea salt in the bottom of the pan before putting food on...this keeps the drippings from sticking. Now, a job that used to take overnight soaking and a minimum of 15 minutes of scrubbing has been whittled down to mere minutes. Additionally, I paid over twice as much for the Calphalon pan, so this is a total bargain!

    I had been looking for an indoor grill for some time and I am so glad I purchased this product. It is my first cast iron product and I was fascinated to learn about its upkeep (cleaning and seasoning the grill) and the benefits it would bring to my diet (foods enriched with iron). So far, the food I have prepared has been perfect! The grill really gives it a smokey taste, it is just what I wanted! The only down side is that the seasoning from the bottom gets on the stove and requires prolonged cleaning, not too bad, but a quick wipe won't suffice. For me, this is not a big deal and can therefore recommend the product.

    This is not a glamorous item, but extremely useful when your family is big into grilled cheese, pancakes, and french toast. It is heavy, so be sure to use two hands when moving it.

    • A. I do use it on electric. I have used it on gas. I would love to change to a gas stove.... It worked great. Flat top stoves??? Would it scratch?? I really don't know and I wouldn't want to experiment on a stove of my own...

    • A. You can use it on an electric stovetop, but you may be disappointed with results. I find it has rather poor heat distribution. The surface cools quickly once it clears the perimeter of the element. I would not recommend it for use on flat top stoves. The bottom surface is not smooth, and could result in damage. I do recommend you refer to your stove's owner's manual, or manufacturer's information site, prior to using this product on a flat top stove. Most do not recommend using anything but flat-bottomed cookware. These stove surfaces can be damaged physically and esthetically by misuse.

    • A. I'd imagine you can use it over any heat source, but you likely will have to let it preheat substantially longer with electric burners as the heat source. You may also get some scorching or charring on the "down" side that will rest against the electric burners; and, you may end up damaging the burners.

    • A. Yes. They recommend using hot water,not so much soap though bc it will ruin the conditioning of the cast iron. I have used a dish brush after rubbing it with additional bit of oil after using to help with sticking food left over.

    • A. This piece has been seasoned at the factory, a big improvement over older pieces. I have used cast iron cookware for over 40 years and never use soap. I remove items that are stuck to the surface with a steel spatula and scrub with a non-metalic scouring pad or brush under hot water. Then I wash it with a wet dish cloth, rinse, and dry with a cloth and paper towels (on the cooking surface).

    • A. The directions state to use warm water only and dry after cleaning. Then add more oil. It is preseasoned which is a definite bonus over most cast iron utensils when they are new.

    • A. The instruction do not recommend using soap for cleaning as this will remove the seasoning on the pan. I tried cleaning mine after cooking chicken thighs on it, with just hot water, and a nylon brush, and was not able to get it clean. In my opinion it would take a stiff wire brush, and hot soapy water to get it clean from anything that sticks-and a lot of things stick to this! So it depends on if you want to follow the directions or to get it clean...

    • A. Absolutely not!!! You should never clean with soap unless you plan to re-season the pan. Hot water and a wire brush will do the job. Some people throw on a handful of Kosher salt and form a paste to get off some of the baked on crud. You can also fill it with water and boil for a few minutes. Then use the brush.

    • A. Best to use hot water and a brush or cooper cleaning scrub pad. Soap will ruin the "coating" to the cast iron. To dry or remove any residuals. put on stove top, turn on burners for 2 minutes. It will dry perfectly without rusting and any concern of residualsfoodstuff will be eliminated

    • A. Yes you can clean it with a brush. The soap will break down your seasoning and it will start rusting. The griddle gets so hot it will kill any germs no worries mate. Try cleaning while still warm and brush with a rag laying flat between griddle and brush surface. Plastic brush will not hurt it, metal will take of your seasoning!

    • A. NO soap ever Use only hot water, stiff brush & sea salt. Scrub & clean all over. Rinse with hot water. Remember to wipe immediately after it has been washed. This prevents rusting. Then warm it a bit on stove to ensure that pores are dry. Rub in vegetable oil evenly all over - in & out. Place in 350* oven for 30 mins. Allow to cool. Now its ready to use.

    • A. It is solid cast iron, 14 1/2 pounds of it. It holds heat much better than anything else. You will need mitts to handle it even after it has been removed from the heat source for quite some time.

    • A. It's solid cast iron...weighs about 10 pounds. While it comes pre-seasoned, take it through a good cast iron seasoning process and you'll have no problems with it. Google "season cast iron skillets" and you'll get the routine.
