I was looking for a replacement for a Calphalon non-stick grill pan because it was terrible to clean. No matter what I did - spray with cooking spray, use lower heat, use higher heat, boil water in it after cooking - I could never get it clean enough to make me happy. I researched different products and Lodge grills got consistently great reviews. I couldn't be happier! After letting the grill cool, I just use really hot water and a stiff toothbrush to clean the ridges. One other thing I've read and tried was putting some sea salt in the bottom of the pan before putting food on...this keeps the drippings from sticking. Now, a job that used to take overnight soaking and a minimum of 15 minutes of scrubbing has been whittled down to mere minutes. Additionally, I paid over twice as much for the Calphalon pan, so this is a total bargain!

I had been looking for an indoor grill for some time and I am so glad I purchased this product. It is my first cast iron product and I was fascinated to learn about its upkeep (cleaning and seasoning the grill) and the benefits it would bring to my diet (foods enriched with iron). So far, the food I have prepared has been perfect! The grill really gives it a smokey taste, it is just what I wanted! The only down side is that the seasoning from the bottom gets on the stove and requires prolonged cleaning, not too bad, but a quick wipe won't suffice. For me, this is not a big deal and can therefore recommend the product.

This is not a glamorous item, but extremely useful when your family is big into grilled cheese, pancakes, and french toast. It is heavy, so be sure to use two hands when moving it.

I use the griddle on my outdoor gas grille at low temperature. Meat & fish are cooked evenly and flavorful. Cleanup is very easy, just put it under running faucet and use a soft brush to clean it. Wonder why I never thought of getting a cast iron griddle before.

We recently got a fantastic deal buying an outdoor gas grill from Walmart. The first thing we cooked was hamburgers and I could see how the grease dripping on the burners would create problems eventually. We bought the Lodge griddle plate to put on the grill and save that investment. It works WONDERFULLY and catches all the grease. You can turn the ribbed side up and it cooks umpteen hot dogs at once, evenly, and with no grease drip. Turn the flat side up and hamburgers are extremely easy to sear the sides and flip with no meat loss. The griddle on the grill gives a humongous amount of control on temperature of the cook surface. It also fits just fine across two burners of our indoor gas cooktop. Follow the instructions about no sudden heating or cooling and how to clean it (it takes a bit of maintenance, don't slack here) and it'll last forever. Site-2-store was seamless and free shipping, and Walmart's cost of the griddle was least among real alternatives. Kudos. We'll be back.

    • A. Yes. They recommend using hot water, not so much soap though bc it will ruin the conditioning of the cast iron. I have used a dish brush after rubbing it with additional bit of oil after using to help with sticking food left over.

    • A. This piece has been seasoned at the factory, a big improvement over older pieces. I have used cast iron cookware for over 40 years and never use soap. I remove items that are stuck to the surface with a steel spatula and scrub with a non-metalic scouring pad or brush under hot water. Then I wash it with a wet dish cloth, rinse, and dry with a cloth and paper towels (on the cooking surface).

    • A. The directions state to use warm water only and dry after cleaning. Then add more oil. It is preseasoned which is a definite bonus over most cast iron utensils when they are new.

    • A. The instruction do not recommend using soap for cleaning as this will remove the seasoning on the pan. I tried cleaning mine after cooking chicken thighs on it, with just hot water, and a nylon brush, and was not able to get it clean. In my opinion it would take a stiff wire brush, and hot soapy water to get it clean from anything that sticks-and a lot of things stick to this! So it depends on if you want to follow the directions or to get it clean...

    • A. Absolutely not!!! You should never clean with soap unless you plan to re-season the pan. Hot water and a wire brush will do the job. Some people throw on a handful of Kosher salt and form a paste to get off some of the baked on crud. You can also fill it with water and boil for a few minutes. Then use the brush.

    • A. Best to use hot water and a brush or cooper cleaning scrub pad. Soap will ruin the "coating" to the cast iron. To dry or remove any residuals. put on stove top, turn on burners for 2 minutes. It will dry perfectly without rusting and any concern of residualsfoodstuff will be eliminated

    • A. Yes you can clean it with a brush. The soap will break down your seasoning and it will start rusting. The griddle gets so hot it will kill any germs no worries mate. Try cleaning while still warm and brush with a rag laying flat between griddle and brush surface. Plastic brush will not hurt it, metal will take of your seasoning!

    • A. NO soap ever Use only hot water, stiff brush & sea salt. Scrub & clean all over. Rinse with hot water. Remember to wipe immediately after it has been washed. This prevents rusting. Then warm it a bit on stove to ensure that pores are dry. Rub in vegetable oil evenly all over - in & out. Place in 350* oven for 30 mins. Allow to cool. Now its ready to use.

Here it is in a nutshell. How to Restore Battered Cast Iron: 1) Scrub with a stiff brush 2) Wash (use a little soap if you prefer) 3) Dry completely 4) Rub with cooking oil 5) Bake in a 350 degree oven for 1 Hour 6) Allow to cool in oven

    • A. Never done it, but I would suggest 1 - scour off any rust 2 - cover with thin coat of oil (olive is good) 3 - put in oven at 200 degrees for a while, maybe 1-2 hours Keep seasoning, eventually it will regain it's original form. Yes, it can be used in the oven. That's the beauty of cast iron - nearly indestructible.

    • A. You have not killed your cast iron. You may need to reseason it, though. (You can't kill cast iron!) We really prefer pure corn oil for seasoning and making cast iron 'non-stick' Just heat the clean cast iron good and hot, then wipe it down with a good heavy coating of corn oil. Let it stay hot for a few minutes, then wipe off the excess with a paper towel. You should be good to go. When you're done cooking, and the surface is clean, wipe it down with corn oil before you put it away. It will be perfect next time you want to use it. If the oil gets sticky, heat it, and wipe it out again before you start cooking.

    • A. Just re-season it with olive oil...put in slow oven around 200 degrees for at least three hours...cast iron can take all kinds of abuse from water, soap, burning foods...it always seems to bounce back with re-seasoning... I also have put all of my cast iron in the oven at one time or another.

    • A. I ain't no lady, but no, you haven't ruined your skillet. Cast iron needs to be seasoned initially...hi heat with vegetable oil...until the oil smokes, then turn off heat and let it cool naturally. Heat it up again until the oil smokes, let it cool again. Repeat the process three or four more times until the skillet gets a nice sheen to it. Rinse in hot water and dry out with a paper towel. Cast iron will rust if allowed to sit in water, or sit without being dried off. Just wash the rust out, wipe a light coat of vegetable oil and you're ready to go. Once you use it four or five times...and after washing without scrubbing it, this thing will cook better than a teflon or non-stick coated skillet.

    • A. Don't soak your cast iron. However, it's not a lost cause! I've soaked mine and reseasoned it many many times. Scrub the rust off with a brush. Place it in the oven at 350 until dry, oil it thoroughly and place it back in the oven for about an hour. oil it again and let it cool. You can't "ruin" cast iron. just restore it and re season it. Believe me I've had mine for almost 30 years and have done lots wrong and right with it. I still use it constantly! Cast iron rocks.

    • A. You didn't ruin it, put some grease in it and burn it. Then wash it, never let it sit in water too long, remember you are dealing with iron. When you cook with it use some Pam or other non stick spray. You got a good product take care of it will last forever. And yes you can put it in the oven as well
