My great-grandmother, grandmother, mother and myself all used/use cast iron cookware. I've been accustomed to this product and have never found anything to take it's place for certain types of cooking. I bought this particular piece to cook cornbread sticks because my husband prefers the sticks over the pan cornbread. Of course, we all know Lodge makes the best cast iron products. After all, it is one of the only "Made in America" companies still producing and selling in this country.

Yes, these corn sticks do indeed stick! In my first use, I used the basic Jiffy corn bread mix and the sticks all stuck to the pan. I've since been told that spraying with regular "Pam" isn't enough.... you should use the variety with flour for better release. I'd say the corn pattern etched into the pan is too intricate for a coarse cornmeal batter to bake intact, or be released. Maybe I'll have better luck next time but I'm in no hurry to try as these are a true chore to clean.

I love my Lodge Cast Iron products. I bought 4 pieces in this order. A grill press, a panninni press, a 6" skillet, and this cornbread pan. All of my order was mailed separately. All of the ordered pieces came packaged nicely with protection except for the cornbread pan which was just shoved in a very large box, no packing to protect it. It had tumbled around in it's box and had broken out the side. It also had some kind of oil all over it. I wasn't happy at all. What poor product handling. My grill press had chips in it but was packaged right. I don't believe I will buy from Walmart again.

I had been looking for a healthier way to make corn dogs rather than deep frying or buying that processed frozen stuff, so I bought this pan. Although the pan is smaller than I had hoped (the wells are not very deep and has 7 slots) it can be done! Do not use jumbo hot dogs. I use the Jennie-o Turkey dogs since they are skinnier than the regular or the jumbos. I also grill the dogs first on my Foreman grill, make a batch of corn bread mix, to which I add a little fat free shredded cheddar cheese. Line each well with a small tablespoon of the mix, lay the dog in, top with another tablespoon of the mix. If you put too much it will overflow and really puff up in the oven. Make sure to spray the pan before so they come out easily. These taste great and are much healthier! The pan works very well, and makes the bread crisp and delicious. I would definately recommend! Enjoy!

If you love the crust on cornbread this is the product for you. It makes a very crispy crust all the way around but the middle of the cornbread is soft as it should be. Put the cornstick pan in the oven with oil/spray in all of the indentions when you preheat your oven By the time the oven is ready so is the pan. It is very durable since it is made of cast iron. Just don't put it in the dishwasher.

I would not buy any cast iron that was not made by Lodge. It is the best quality. However, if you are looking to make reasonable size corn sticks, this will not give it to you. It is very shallow and small. And it may be seasoned but needs lots of oil/grease before using or it will stick badly.

I have used cast iron all my life, and never have I been dissappointed until now. First of all this is much smaller than it appears. One commenter stated she makes corn dogs and explained how she does it using this pan, I have to say not possible.I tried twice cutting the hot dog in smaller pieces and they fit that way, but the problem is the cornbread will not come out of the pan. I used the box mix, and I made my own mix, niether would come out of the pan. All cast iron cookwear coming from Lodge is already pre seasoned, and has always worked great, except this pan. So the best I can do is find another way to use it. Sorry I really hate to give a bad review, but I feel I must be honest.

I've used this cornstick pan for over fifty years, and there is no such thing as 'better cornbread'. This one I ordered for my Cousin in Birmingham because she had lost or misplaced hers during a move. She was unable to find the 'Lodge' skillet anywhere, so Thank Heaven for Walmart!!! Every stick is all crust except, of course the middle. Use it once and you will never use any other skillet or pan for cornbread. It also makes wonderful cornstick cakes for the little ones. I use a regular cake mix and canned icing and make these for my Grandchildren. Let the Grandchildren put on the icing of their choice when they cool. They tell everyone that I make "Magic Stickcakes."

NO... I do not work for Lodge (the maker) or Walmart. These are the real deal from Lodge cast iron. I paid in advance and picked them up free at the store. They are not usually sold in the store. The weight of four pounds is deceiving in the text. I got two, which were a boxed handful for the spritely saleslady of a senior age. They are breakable with a hammer or a high drop onto a concrete floor, so do not treat them as if they were steel. Wash them and grease and heat them before using them as the instructions indicate and they will last forever. Super price.... better than any other store. Great for cornbread sticks or cookies.

    • A. Corn sticks are pieces of corn bread baked in a special pan designed to make then look like small ears of corn. Some people (including Al Capp) call them corn pone, but that's an Algonquin Indian term, and there are no Algonquins in the southeast. I never heard a Southerner use it.

    • A. Corn sticks are delicious!!! IN a sense, it is a corn muffin stretched out long and thin, about the size of a hot dog roll. The thinner 'stick; gets more browning and produces extra dextrose (good) yielding an irresistible flavor. Cookies are greater too. Just experiment and find the right temperature and time..... write it down and crank'em out!!

    • A. Corn sticks look just like the shape in the hollow cut-outs. The difference in these and cornbread made in a 6,8, or 10" cast iron skillet is that each one comes out separately of course, however they are all 'crust' all the way around with a corn bread middle. If you like the crusty part of the cornbread, then you'll love these. They are the only kind of cornbread my Husband will eat, because he loves the crust. If you don't have one, buy it, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at the taste.

    • A. These Lodge iron trays will melt long after your oven has warped out of shape.Read and abide by the directions, they will take the heat!! Do not place them hot, into cold water (or even hot water for that fact) they may produce instant steam and scald you. Dutch or standard ovens can produce temperatures high enough to bake cornbread. A temperature from 212 up over 400 degrees F can make corn bread, just depends on the amount of carbon you like to eat. The higher the temperature the shorter the time. Just be careful... these stay very hot a very long time, and can melt some counter tops. ALWAYS use oven mittens with these pans.

    • A. All cast iron is cast the same way, so in a sense, yes it can withstand the heat...can the food? No, in that the corn stick and the wedge cornbread skillets need to be cooked at 425-450, not any higher, or you will have uneven brownness. Also, your food, bread or whatever you are cooking will get brown and look done, when, in fact it isn't done on the inside. The skillets can withstand up to 550 degrees, although I don't know of anything you would want to cook on that high of temp. I do use 525-530 for some things but not often. I recommend 425-450 for most anything you are cooking using cast iron because of the evenness of the browning. I've been cooking with cast iron for over Fifty years, so I've had my share of mishaps over the years trying to cook something faster on a higher heat setting.
