I don't know what the manufacturer uses, but the pot does come preseasoned. If you need to re-season the pot, I generally use olive or coconut oil.

It doesn't specify, but afterwards, use cooking oil.

Okay, I don't know specifically what this brand uses to preseason their pans with, however, I do know that most people use a blend of oils. Particularly olive oil. You can browse the internet for "how-to's" on reseasoning if you need. And you can check the brand's website www.lodgemfg.com/ for the answer to this question specifically (You can do your own homework here). They have a "Contact us" link if you can't find the answer and wish to email or call them.

The Lodge website says it is a soy based vegetable oil - sprayed on and baked at a high temp.

Best is chicken fat...but Crisco oil or shortening should work also.

If you are asking what the manufacturer used to pre-season, it is most likely vegetable oil. If you are asking what you can use to pre-season then the answer is either vegetable or olive oil, it doesn't really matter.

I use vegetable oil. I put some on a paper towel and rub the inside and outside of the pot. It really works well.

We use cast iron on ours all the time--no problem. Mine is 18 years old, so I'm not too careful about scratching. Not sure if that's a problem with cast iron or not. Probably if you lift, not slide, it's fine.

I would imagine so if you are careful, very careful, as it is very heavy. However the bottom is flat so that should work. Use caution, and check your stove owner's manual.

Yes, the Cast Iron Dutch oven can absolutely be used on any stove top. Be careful when you move it though. Pick it up to move it, do not slide as this can scratch your ceramic top.

Not sure but it conducts heat so well that you don't need much. I pulled it from the stove and put in a 450 degree oven - no problems. Love the lid. It can go directly into the oven without covering the handle in foil.

It's cast iron, so I would imagine extremely high. On a recent camping trip we made several dishes in the pan by placing it on a grate directly over the fire, and even baked an apple cake in it by placing the pot directly in the fire. Turned out wonderfully with no negative effects to the pot!

Your stove oven can&#39;t get too hot for this skillet...............I&#39;ve put old badly misused skillets in my oven for 2 hours with the self clean cycle in use......The pans come out perfectly cleaned and ready for seasoning. Normally season skillets with Crisco for one hour @ 500 degrees. Do this around 3 times and you will season your skillet so it&#39;s almost non-stick.
