We previously owned few LeapFrog products which we liked so we were excited to test this one. The age range of this tablet is 3 to 9 years old and there might games to buy for the older kids in that range, however I believe the tablet as is it’s for ages 3 to max 6 years old (there isn’t really anything challenging to do for older kids…). The tablet is sturdy and it looks like it can withstand hard playing. The ON/OFF button is on the right side, together with the slot for the cartridges and a USB slot to charge the tablet. On the front there is a navigating white button and the “home” button which your child can always press when he/she finds stuck. On top of the screen you will notice the front camera lenses (there are lenses also in the back). Volume button is on the bottom side of the tablet while on the left side there is the plug for the earphones. The stylus is located and stored in the back of the tablet, the good think is that it is linked to the table with a thread so kids will never loose it. You can use the tablet right out of the box but I suggest you charge it fully while you check it out. Settings are easy to complete but you need to create a LeapFrog account if you haven’t done that yet. Mine connected to our WiFi right away and while in use it uploaded the Wi-Fi connected activities fast (I believe it depends by the strength of your Wi-Fi). I created profiles for both of my kids but there is a “guest” option, too. What you get in the tablet: pet game, music (with 10 songs total), “Leap Search” (a collection of kid-friendly videos), App Center (where you can buy apps - accessible only by parents with a code), Pet Chat (enables two LeapPads to communicate), Photo Fun (camera center), “Welcome” (Tablet introduction), Clock, Calculator, Voice Memo, Notepad, Calendar and “Sneak Peeks” (introduction to Leap Frog products). There is one free app you can download from the app center. My 4 years old loves the pet game and the photo fun area. In the LeapSearch she loves to watch videos of cats and pets in general. As a parent I liked the “clock” and “calendar” talking options but I wished there were more educational applications already loaded. You will need to purchase apps or books for around $5-$10 or cartridges for around $25 to get more games and learning games. Overall it is a good starter tablet which provides kid-friendly activities for parents peace of mind.

This is an excellent product for a child to learn. I must say that I am biased to leap frog. Our 4 year old daughter has owned most learning toys from leapfrog. I am not particularly fond of this tablet. She has owned other kids tablets that let us download other apps, like, PBS learning games, and netflix kids. You can only download things that you buy from the leap frog store for this tablet. This is my only complaint. Like the scout and violet, this tablet comes with the same cord to attach to the computer and charging. This is a great thing, if you lose one, you have other back-ups. The packaging comes very secured. I plugged it in for 30 minutes while reading the manual, and then plugged it into my laptop and created an account, handed it to our 4 year old, and she was entertained for hours. You get to chose one learning game with the purchase, I chose spelling. I would just like to say that one of the reasons that my daughter can spell her name Isabella is from leapfrogs Scout. She can count and knows all of her colors and ABC's, with help from leapfrog. In my opinion, leapfrog is the leading learning company in our nation for children 2 and up. The frame of this leappad seems much more sturdy than other childrens tablets we have owned. That is a huge plus, because she had issues with the other two within one to two months. Also, you can monitor what your child is doing on the tablet. Your child can only access what you chose for them to be able to access. For most children my daughters age, this is excellent. For my daughter, it is not. Because of leapfrog helping her learn for all of these years, she is advanced. On her other tablets we could upload PBS learning games, and she had netflix with shows like the leapfrog scout (awesome for teaching number's, colors and ABC's). On this tablet, you have to pay for every individual game, and they are not that cheap. They range from $15 and up. You can also buy cartridges, which I suggest, just like the apps. This tablet also teaches time, and lets them easily photoshop there own pictures. You can also watch videos that help kids to understand animals and taking care of them and such. The pen is attached to the tablet, which as a parent, you know this is an excellent idea! The battery last for 5 hours at least so far. We brought it to a doctors appointment and she played it the whole way there, at the appointment, and back home. Battery never had to be recharged. The buttons are very kid friendly and useable. Also, the ease of using it is nice. Unlike other kids tablets, this tablet is very fast. This is an excellent first tablet for your child. The learning games through leapfrog truly does teach your child in a fun way. So, yes, the games are a little pricy, but, if you have a child like mine that is so very far advanced for her age, you find the prices irrelevant. Leapfrog is a company that parents can trust to help our childrens education, and this table reflects their ability to teach on your child's level. Also, all games are set up by age of child and subject you would like your child to learn. You can buy a case that has a stand for it, that was the only other issue I had, it does not stand, but, they already thought of that, and the case with stand is on walmart.com for $9 and under. I am still a huge fan of leapfrog, even with a dissapointment of them trying to get more money from the parents. Their teaching abilities are worth the extra money! The durability of this tablet makes it worth the price alone, but, then you have all control to guarantee your child is learning the correct things, makes it well worth the price. Isabella's favorite toy from birth was scout, and it began our love with leapfrog. We have purchased so much from them, because she truly does learn from their products. Watch the video and see how she uses this so quickly, after having it for about a week.

If you are looking for a starter tablet for your child, this is quite an amazing product. Upon removing the tablet from the box, I let it charge for about 3 hours before powering it up. Once it was on, setup was super easy with the system leading you through the process screen by screen. You are able to add users as needed or you can use the tablet as the "guest". Users are defined by name and by level of education (pre-k, etc.) You can also add your child's picture to their user profile to further personalize their experience! The case of this tablet seems to be very "kid tough" and the design is great for smaller hands. The screen is obviously built for some poking and prodding by a preschooler & seems quite durable although I wouldn't want to drop it on a hard surface for fear the screen would shatter. LeapFrog also included a stylus with this model which stores inside the case and is attached via string. This was a nice idea but my child and I both had a difficult time getting it to function correctly. We would touch the end of the stylus to the screen and the system would not register it. We would end up having to use our fingernail to achieve what we wanted the system to do which was fine. I use tablets frequently and do not have a stylus so this wasn't a deal breaker for me. There are ten applications included for use on this tablet including a fun camera application, a pet game and pet chat function, music player with songs, internet "browser", and more. You were also able to select one of many pre-loaded applications based on the age of your child and of course you can always purchase more applications or game cartridges . I really wish that LeapFrog would have allowed us to select more free educational applications but unfortunately they want you to buy them. All of the applications we tried out ran smoothly and fast. In fact, switching between applications was VERY fast and this tablet has no problem keeping up. We watched a YouTube video and the clarity of the video was amazing and the sound was great too. The 2 cameras worked well for taking photos and the microphone seems to work pretty well too. Honestly, I was a bit overwhelmed with what this thing can do. One small complaint I have is that every time we powered up the tablet we had lost our connection to WiFi and had to wait for the system to find our network and then wait for it to join. This was slightly annoying as you can imagine but once connected we had no problems with connectivity. The product is designed for the 3 to 9 year old and I really feel that you would need to be at least 3 to be able to operate this product without adult assistance. Other tablets (such as an iPad) may cater to a younger audience with applications built accordingly for that demographic, but this tablet is definitely for an older pre-school aged child.

Received the Leap Pad 3 for my 6 year old daughter and she loves it she has had it for less than a week and she knows how to work it like a pro :). Tablet comes with pre-loaded apps which is really great. Set-up: The set-up process is very easy took less than 5 minutes ad it was ready to go. Wi-Fi: easy to access Wi-Fi the web search is super kid safe and also mostly educational things. Music: comes with music already downloaded from Leapfrog you can also download your own music (MP3 format) also has a headphone jack. Screen: screen is a good size 5" very good color and lighting Camera: front camera takes great pictures in low lighting as for the rear camera pictures not so good in low lighting a bit on the blurry/dark side but still takes good pictures especially outdoors (Does not have flash which would be good to have ) Apps: all apps cost $ which is a bummer haven't found any free apps as of yet. Apps range from $3.50-$25.00 Volume level is really good also. Also Does not come with any cartridge Bottom line this is a great tablet and I definitely recommend this for any child!!!!

The LeapFrog LeapPad3 Kids’ Learning Tablet with Wi-Fi is an amazing piece of technology, well ahead of its time and a toy that exceeded my expectations in every possible way. Made by a company known for its interactivity and educational expertise, the LeapPad3 is leagues better than previous models or competitors tablets. I expected a nice toy that had some fun features for my son, but instead I received a remarkable tablet with features you’d expect to find in an adult tablet of much higher cost. Upon opening the box, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to see that compared to past models, this tablet has very little construction needed and only included the tablet, the charging cord, and the USB cable to connect to your computer, along with the standard documentation of course. This brings up an important, perhaps one of the most impressive features of this tablet- it actually has a rechargeable battery, unlike past models that took four or more batteries and only lasted a few hours. After an initial charge of about 3 hours, I found that with Wi-Fi on, I got about seven hours battery life on a full charge. The aforementioned Wi-Fi is another great aspect of the LeapPad3- connecting to your home’s wireless network, it provides the tablet with great connectivity, allowing you to download new apps, games and share content via a few simple commands within the device. Of course, there are ample parent controls to ensure your child doesn’t make purchases or access content you don’t want them to- one of the very first steps in the setup of the tablet involves getting the parents full information and making a safety access code, so you have control over the tablet at all times. Also, you can setup multiple accounts with names, pictures even videos at each child's individual educational level, preventing you from having to buy multiple devices. The LeapPad 3 has a huge assortment of games, apps and features included with it, and via your LeapFrog account you can transfer over previous purchases from past LeapFrog products, a very convenient and economical feature. All of the programs included are not only fun, but beneficial for your child in many ways, from learning colors, letters, math, songs and basic social studies to expressive apps that allow them to create art of many kinds to their hearts content. My son was enthralled with this device as soon as he got his hands on it, and despite being handicapped, was able to access the games easily and have a great time. Its a regular staple of his daily activities now, and something I'm very glad he has to benefit him. Overall, I would strongly recommend this to any parent of a child from ages 3-10, and rate this 5 stars out of 5. This will be a must-have for the upcoming holiday season.

I received the LeapFrog LeapPad3 for review; however all of the opinions in this review are my own. I own the Leapster Explorer, and I am very satisfied with the educational products made by LeapFrog, so I was very excited about receiving this product. The feature on this LeapPad3 that my son really enjoys is the Leapsearch feature; this ensures you as the parent that your child is viewing kid-friendly only YouTube videos, including educational videos with songs and music, plus videos that include some of their favorite characters. These videos are pre-approved by the company, and only their selection is available for view, so the child cannot just log on and see anything other than the videos that are pre-loaded on the device making it a relief for the parents. Another nice feature is the music, this makes it even more like your child’s own little tablet! The music loaded is of course kid friendly, and my 3 year old really enjoys it. This LeapPad3 is a great option for a young child that likes to play on tablets, because the safety measures LeapFrog has taken to ensure the children cannot see anything using the Wi-Fi feature that isn’t child friendly. I enjoy the fact that this LeapPad is educational just like the rest of the LeapFrog products, yet is also fun and keeps my 3 year old entertained. The LeapPad 3 is totally customizable for your child, and they can set up their own profile if more than one child is using the product. The cartridges for this device are reasonably priced and there is a lot to choose from, so any child would be able to find something in which peaks their interest and also broadens their mind with the educational tools that are in the game. This device was very easy to access using my laptop and to load all of the apps that were given for free with the LeapPad. For the price I think this is a great bargain because of all of the features the LeapPad brings, plus its durability, which is important in a kid’s tablet. My son also enjoys the camera feature on this product, where he can take pictures and even set them as backgrounds. Overall, I highly recommend this product especially for small children, it’s both entertaining and educational, just what every parent wants in a tablet for their child, plus the safety features keep a worrying parent’s mind at ease. I cannot say enough good things about this product and all of the many features it has!

After just 3 days of use, the camera on the back of the device no longer works. It has not been dropped, and it did work for the first 3 days so I don't know what could be wrong with it. Also, the battery doesn't seem to stay charged for all that long but since the back camera isn't working, maybe the battery issue is just because mine is defective. You may want to buy at least one game to go with it, there aren't any included. There are 10 apps on it. It has a virtual pet you can choose, and things you can do with your pet. There are front and back cameras, video recorder, voice recorder and a picture editor (to make pictures your child takes look strange and silly). There's also music your child can listen to. Theres a shopping cart icon that will take you to where you can choose from a very long list of games, you can purchase them right there from the LeapPad3. I've seen prices ranging from $5-$25 (most of the better looking games are $20-$25). So there may be 1000+ games, but they need to be purchased. You can also buy the game cartridges online or in stores. It is a really nice product and it's very easy to use. I think that with all of the games available, and the ability to use wifi in a kid safe manner, It's definitely worth the price.

I received the LeapPad3 to give my honest opinion. This is one of the best electronics, I have every came across for kids, and I like the Wi-Fi capability, since my brother has Wi-Fi it makes it easy for my 7 and 9 year old niece and nephew to connect to the internet. I’m one of those parents that want to know what my kids has access too, so for the fact that LeapFrog has a safe kid friendly search engine name Zui, I can relax knowing my niece and nephew won’t have access to things that they shouldn’t. I like that with this product they have access to many educational games, eBooks and videos. I’m glad to know that the LeapPad3 will help strengthen their reading, math, science and creativity skills. Their parents can either purchase some apps from the LeapPad store or they could purchase more games from Wal-Mart. Another great thing I notice about the LeapPad3 is how strong the product is, you know how easily kids can drop things. So LeapFrog did an incredible job with the break resistant glass. I like that their parents won’t have to buy new batteries, they can simply recharge it within a few minutes. This is one of those electronics that makes parenting easier, you know when you are going to be driving with the kids in the car for a long time, having this product truly is a blessing. It not only entertain kids, but it’s also educational, so it’s a win, win for both kids and parents. Overall I would definitely recommend this product to any adults that values education for their little ones.

Having never owned a LeapPad Tablet before, here's my take. I have the Green one. Great color for both boys or girls! Vibrant green with a clean white backing. It's a semi smooth, sturdy, plastic with grooves (or grips) on the back making for easier holding. I think if the green (or pink) border were of a rubber that would help from accidental drops, but it's so thick and easy to hold that dropping accidentally won't often happen. First off, I had problems connecting the WiFi. It just wouldn't connect! My internet is flawless and my other electronic devices connect no problem. I was concerned this device would require endless number of batteries, but it comes with a plug in wall-adapter. Very convenient. I have done a bit of research and discovered you can purchase (separately) a car adapter, too. As I said it has a strong plastic construction, and doesn't look seem it will easily be destroyed by my 5 year old and 2 year old. However, I'm thinking I should invest in a case and screen protector. My children can be very rough with their toys, so this tablet is strictly sitting on the sofa quietly type of toy. It comes with some features already loaded: like a pet creation activity, simple music app with some learning songs, clock, calculator, voice memo, notepad, calendar, photo fun (edit), and camera. It has what's called "pet chat" where I think you can chat with another leap pad device, but only if they are in the same room together. The camera is very simple and not high quality (but what do you expect from a children's toy), however it is both front AND rear facing! I was pleasantly surprised! The stylus is not easily used if you are left handed (as I am), but not many products cater to left handed people. It is attached by a thick string, good length, but not so long that my children can wrap it around their necks. Speakers located at the front of the table have very good sound for a children's toy. The convenient volume button is easy enough to find. Speaking of buttons, there is a "home" button and a directional pad located on the left (or bottom) of the tablet, depending on how you are holding it. Great for my left-handedness!! The power button is the only other button on the device. There is a port for headphones, too. Although it doesn't come with any games and that's where the money in this device is spent, I think. Games can range from $10-25 depending. There is a slot for games located next to the power button. After a couple minutes of inactivity, it turns off by itself. Which is an invaluable feature, considering how my children often just leave their toys laying about. All, in all, it's a pretty good device. I think if you can purchase the protective accessories (case and screen protector), you'll be good to go! Be prepared to spend a bit of money on games. Given the built in parental controls and the separate game cartridges, I can keep the tablet off-line. My son once bought $40 worth of games on my other (non kid) tablet, before I set up the child lock features. This device makes setting up parental controls its first priority! Immediately upon turning it on, you are setting up your parental code. The only reason I didn't rate it full 5 stars was because the accessories that are needed (like case and ESPECIALLY games) really add on to the initial price; but I love this little tablet so far! My only regret is I didn't have one for each of my children!

The LeapFrog LeapPad3 Kid’s Learning Tablet is a great electronic for any age! Whether your child is reading or not, there is an activity for your child. The preset activity kept my 2 boys (5 and 7) entertained for a very long road trip. My 7 year old immediately created a profile and began playing. When he would let his younger brother play with it, he would have to play as guest. When you play as guest, your data is not saved (a message will pop up on the screen). My 5 year old would play and play and play, but not get very far because every time he would have to start over. Because of that feature, I was only going to give it 4 stars. However, it seems that the LeapPad3 is more prepared than I had originally given it credit for. Under Parental Controls, you can create more profiles which allow each kid to have their “own” LeapPad. The LeapPad3 has so many great features; it is hard to point out all of them. The parental controls are a definite plus. The first thing you can do is set them up so that your children cannot access the internet without you. Once you connect them to Wi-Fi, you can download more activities or you can disconnect it so that the child can only play what is on there. There is a slot for an SD card as well as game cartridges. The possibilities are endless with this tablet.
