I have a 1300 sq ft apartment and I bought 2 of these heaters and I put one at each end of the apartment for wide coverage. I kept the thermostat between 75-80 degrees. I shut off my base board heating. I did this for 1 month and my energy bill dropped from $170 to $87! These heaters were on almost around the clock! I love them!! I would recommend to anyone who wants to stay nice and warm and save money on enegery bills!!

I bought this heater last year to compliment my heating system in my home. I bought it because even tho my heat was set to 75, i was still cold. To my surprise i found that this little heater, not only warmed my room up to make it comfy, but allowed me to lower my thermostat setting, to the point i cut my propane use from the previous year at least in half. And my electric bill did not go thru the roof. I also used this to heat an unheated bedroom, and found it was more then up to the job, I even had to get up and turn it down on several occasions. I usually set its temp control to 65, and was perfectly comfortable. In my bedroom, it would run about 15 minutes, on the 65 degree setting for about 15 minutes about every hour or so, during the coldest part of the winter. The exterior stays cool to the touch, except for the screened area where the heat is blown out, and it cools within seconds when turned off. I used it everyday from the first day i bought it during the winter months, and most times, my home heating system was not needed, but i live alone, so only needed to heat the room i was in. very sturdy little unit. I plan to buy one for my Girlfriend this year, that is if she is good :)

For the money this unit is wonderful. It's very quiet, and more powerful than you would expect for the money. When not in use it is not obtrusive and does not look like a heater. The options are more like a unit twice the price. To have a thermostat, a timer, and oscillation on this heater is more than I could ask for.

I love this thing. I love that it cuts off by itself according to your preferences. I love that it reads the room temp and cuts off when it reaches it's setting. I love that you have the option to ocillate or not. I LOVE its size and style.

I have looked at a number of heaters, and read the reviews. This heater had the highest number of 5 Star reviews. Of all the heaters I looked at. Reasons for purchase. Design, Value. Efficient, 3 year warranty, and in reading the people that bought this heater over 95% rated it a 5 star. now that says something. I got 3 other space heaters in the last 8 weeks that I took back, and they were all more expensive than this heater, and didn't do as good a job heating. I agree with all the people that rated this Lasko mod 6405 heater. I bought 1 and liked it so good I went back and bought another one.. Good purchase.

    • A. There's a similar model (6435) for about $10-15 more that has a remote. I think Home Depot has it...I haven't seen it anywhere else.

    • A. Neither one of mine (Utah or Montana) has a remote. I just push the buttons on the top. I tell it to go for 2 hrs. and it shuts off so is not operating when I am away from the house or when I sleep. I just have issues with small heaters and old wiring.

I bought this heater based on the glowing reviews, but after using it for a week, I think it falls short of expectations. While I find the heater is powerful for it's size, it still does not heat a space or room as well as some other heaters in the Lasko family. So while this heater is nice to look at, I don't find it to be as great as other reviewers have noted. Does anyone else have this experience?

    • A. No, but then again it could be the size of the room you are trying to warm. the rooms I am warming are at most 12 x 12 and the other is smaller at 12 x 10 (these are rough guesses and on the big size).

In the end each of us must choose. I think it works better then the 3' convection we had for years. Good luck on your next purchase.

    • A. The room I am heating does have one heat vent in it, but it also has a door to the outside that is used frequently. It heats my space very well (12'x15' room) to a nice and toasty 70 degrees or warmer very well. Maybe your room is bigger and has no supplemental heat. I could see that this heater might be underpowered for that application.

    • A. I have 2 of these and love them! I think the best way to get the most of these is to close doors of rooms not using to isolate the areas heating. This way the heat is concentrated where you want it. I don't use the thermostat on the product but watch my own themostat on the wall for desired temp. Turn heaters up to high, then when temp. wanted has risen, (may take a few hrs. to get completely warmed in all areas) then turn them to low to maintain it. I have been doing this for about 2 months & often get it too hot if I'm not paying attention, so they definately work great for me.

Looking for an energy efficient heater to reduce cost of electricity, can anyone direct me to a good energy efficient heater?

    • A. Yes but at 1500 Watts, if you use if for 10 hours in a 12' x 12' room and it will cost you whatever is charged for 15 KWH. Do that for 30 days it you will be paying for 450 KWH. A gas furnace is MUCH cheaper and heats the whole house!

    • A. Any of these small personal heaters can reduce your cost of electricity. Just set you central heat lower and use one of these heaters in the room you are in. I believe we waste most of our heat energy in America by heating an entire apartment or house when we can just use the zone concept to heat the room we are in. I also have windows which face east and in the morning I open the blinds and let the sun help heat the rooms. Thus solar is about the only free energy that I use. I have tried the infrared heater but prefer the ceramic ones.

    • A. Watts are watts! Watts are always a measure of potential power consumption - while running!!! (Think kw-hrs). Glowing red elements are sustained draw, as in toasters, sustaining a highly localized temperature. Ceramic heaters will always be more efficient because one is heating a "ceramic thermal mass" at a lower localized temperature. Therefore power "draw" will be more intermittent rather than sustained (lower energy draw), yet more efficient for heating. The "thermal mass" can also be an oil as in some baseboard heaters. Generally, the larger (think surface area) of the thermal mass and the volume/velocity of air passing past it (whether by fan or convection), the more efficient the heater.
