Yes, light turns from green to red & shuts off

No, it does not have a shut-off connected to the water, but it does to the fan engine to prevent over heating. The fan keeps running when there is insufficient water to affect the humidity levels.

I read through the instructions and it did not have any mention of shutting off if empty.

So, I totally emptied it and put it back together and it ran without any water. It did not shut off automatically.

I believe that is why they have the plastic, see-through, gage on the outside of the unit. When the unit is running, water is pumped and flowing against it. When you don't see any water flowing down the inside of the gage.... it needs refilled.

It takes 3 jug refills to fill the unit clear full.

No. It just keeps running. The only indications you will have (other than dry air) are that you will hear it running continuously and you can see the water flow in the view window on the front. I've had it for 2 weeks and I just added filling it to my daily routine. On wetter days, I find that the refill unit still has water in it so I don't have to do anything.

No, the fan will keep running, you can tell by the pump that circulates the water up to the viewing port. There will be a steady stream of water if there is any in the bottom. At max humidity setting it should run for over a day without filling though so you have a lot of time to check. I usually fill 3 canisters and then a 4th that will empty as the machine evaporates the water, this allows for about 5-6 more hours of operation.

I needed a humidifier to help cut down on static in my screenprinting shop. After weighing the options, I selected this one based on price and reviews. It was a good choice. While I would not want this running in my bedroom, it serves its purpose very well for me. It has a large capacity for water storage, which means I don't have to fill it often, and a humidistat that actually seems to work! Overall, a good buy.

Excellent High Capacity Humidifier

I was looking for a smaller whole house humidifier for my 1200 sq foot apartment. This is perfect. It is small enough to be placed in the corner out of sight. It is very easy to fill and has a large tank. I love the humidity control. The only thing is that it makes a lot of noise even on the lowest setting but I like the white noise.

Exactly what I was looking for.

The Lasko 9-Gallon Recirculating Multi-Room Humidifier works great in my house. It's February in Michigan and this unit has kept our 1800 sq. ft. home at a comfortable humidity even on days with single-digit temperatures. It's easy to fill, using its own fillable container with handles. It has a viewable section so that you can see the water flow. The only down-side so far has been the fact that it doesn't automatically shut off when empty. It just keeps running. The only indication you have that it is empty is the lack of water flow in the view window. In the worst weather, I have to fill it daily. Other than that, it has been a great unit so far. I haven't had to replace a filter yet as I've only had this a couple of weeks so I don't know how expensive they are yet or if there are mold issues. Supposedly there shouldn't be but we'll see. I haven't found anything in the directions indicating to add something to the water for microbe prevention so I'm hoping it won't grow mold. I'll be keeping my eye out for that.

Keeps up with our winter weather!

I purchased this to replace one just like it that finally conked out after many years of use. It performed well but I guess nothing lasts forever. If this one lasts as long as the last one I'll be happy. These humidifiers really perform well. The way the water circulates over the filter to keep it wet is a big plus. In dry winter weather I add six to nine gallons of water every day. The way it shuts on and off automatically as needed is also a big plus. It has three fan speeds but I never use anything other than low.

In the past we have always had a humidifier in only the bedrooms and they finally quit working so we decided to go for a whole house one this time. Great humidifier for the money! Our house is 2500 sq ft and this has been working great.

Great humidifier for the house.

Only reason I can't give this humidifier a 5 star is because the filling vessel leaks and is very thin(cracks appeared withing first two weeks on cap.). The leaking is only from the cap so it isn't too much of a problem, you just have to hold it cap up until you get it to the machine. My wife complained that it was too loud to have in the bedroom(very light sleeper) so we just put it in the spare bathroom and it keeps the whole house at a great humidity. We tend to fill the machine every day and a half or so depending on how humid we want the house. If you don't want to have to clean the machine every week you can use filtered water if you have a faucet filter but this has a huge capacity so that is a bit of a hassle. I would absolutely recommend this product. Easy to clean as the machine is large enough to get your hands in and get into the corners.

Does it's job nicely.

I rated this humidifier as good because it does not seem to have an automatic shut-off like I thought it did. However, when the tank is full with water, it works wonders on my one bedroom apartment- the air is refreshing and my skin isn't as dried out as it usually gets with this harsh winter weather.

I do recommend getting an indoor/outdoor thermometer (they're very inexpensive) to track the indoor humidity since this humidifier won't provide that percentage for you. I look at the percentage daily to see which setting the humidifier should run for the day and it's been really helpful to track how much humidity is in the air at each setting.

A VERY Good Humidifier

The product arrived before it was scheduled to arrive. This product was not as large as I thought it was going to be. It does seem to be doing a good job (2200 sqft house). My last humidifier was all electronic and I was not expecting the manual controls that this product has and uses.

One negative is that you can not set the humidity at a speciific percentage. If you want your house at 70% or any other specific amount this product is not for you. Otherwise this system seems to be working good.

Not Wal-Mart or shipper's fault.   Only 3 of 4 assembly screws were installed properly and an internal subassembly broke sometime after being boxed at the factory (Lasko).  Unit was unusable out of the box.  Waiting for a replacement until that is properly assembled.

Broken

The filling canister was cracked as many others reviews experienced too. Also, the filling canister stopper does not seal well at all. This product is loud, louder than I would expect a fan to be. No digital reading makes this low tech device less than awesome. It's also way larger than I ever thought it would be. I'll be returning this for sure and that's a bummer.
