    Rated 4.6 out of 5★ by 16reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Royal Yarn Winder is a "Must Have" Tool My husband and I researched the various manual and electric yarn winders currently in the marketplace and settled on the Royal because of it's excellent reviews and recommendation by Mike of The Crochet Crowd. I was thrilled at how easy it was to assemble and immdiately wound at least 20 skeins of yarn. Helpful hint: hold the yarn between thumb & forefinger as it feeds into the winder for a nice, tight cake. I highly recommend this item to all crocheters & knitters - don't waste your time detangling yarn from the skein as you sew. This winder will cut your production time in half and you'll be able to organize your yarn and keep your work area nice and neat. 11/05/2013
Rated 5 out of 5★ by This IS a very helpful product This fits on tabletop or countertop. Very easy to use. It winds the yarn into a round ball that is flat on top and bottom that can then be stacked. It stays where you need it, won't roll across the room if dropped. My husband made the comment that if he had known how much fun I would have with this, (and it actually is fun) he would have bought me one years ago! 03/13/2009
Rated 4 out of 5★ by The Yarn Ball Winder meets my expectations I was advised by a family member not to buy the less expensive model and I saw he electric winder in action and was less then impressed with it so I purchased this unit and with limited use, it has worked flawlessly. It will take any ball of yarn and turn it into a center pull ball of yarn.Robert 02/15/2013
Rated 5 out of 5★ by I ran out of skeins to wind! I really enjoyed using this product, after 30 years of winding yarn into balls by hand this product was fun to use! Now, for the swift I need!!! 01/31/2009
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Best yarn winder! I purchased a less expensive yarn winder and returned it after 2 weeks. The yarn "cake" would not wind in a manner that allowed it to sit in storage without falling apart. Do yourself a favor and get this Yarn Ball Winder! So much easier and quicker than winding a ball of yarn by hand! If you usually just use the yarn from the center pull of the skein, your partially used skeins will now sit neatly on a shelf or in a box. No more tangled yarn ends! No more mess!I put off getting the Royal Yarn Winder due to its price. After comparing other online sellers AND figuring the shipping and handling expense (come on: $10 to ship this little box?!), I purchased it from Walmart. It was not listed as the Royal brand, but I could tell by the pictures and price that this is what I would get. Walmart gives FREE SHIPPING when you pick it up at the your local store! Who can beat that for price and convenience??? No one!!!!Oh, and by the way, I love this yarn ball winder!TIPS:- Extend the metal piece (gently) as far as it wants to go, it should be in front of the spool, opposite the crank handle.- Always turn clockwise, the yarn is meant to be placed that way.- Let the yarn come in as straight a line as possible from the skein (I don't have an umbrella-type thing since I use inexpensive yarn from major manufacturers), through the metal loops, and onto the moving spool.- Let the yarn strand gently move through your fingers to keep a consistent tension. Do not pull the yarn tight as it comes from the skein or as it goes onto the spool because that will make the yarn loose it's 'spring' (or whatever the correct term is). I wasn't sure how tight would be too tight. I went with the 'felt tension' that made a nice yarn 'cake' and the yarn strands looked the same as when they were on the skein. Sorry I can't be more specific than this description!- When the yarn tangles as it comes from the skein (which happens more frequently than not) stop cranking before it pulls tight, untangle the mess and then undo a little of the yarn from the wound cake (yes, turn the crank backwards a little), then resume cranking. This seems to keep the wound cake at the right tension. Otherwise it gets loose where I stopped it and messes up the cake when it gets large enough to over-run the spool (That might not make sense until it happens to you, just forget this one until it actually happens.)- Keep the yarn wrapper and fold it so it can be slipped in the center space of the yarn 'cake'. I have so much yarn I need to know the details -- which yarn is washable by machine versus hand wash, etc.Works great when I am out-and-about! No messed up skeins and the cakes travel well (in contrast to a ball of yarn!). At home, I like to place the yarn in a shallow metal bowl and use the outer yarn strand. Have fun! Rated 5 out of 5★ by Excellent necessity for yarn users Lacis Yarn Ball Winder is a wonderful product that every person that crochets or knits will find so helpful. The winder winds the yarn into a ball in a very few minutes. The yarn ball is neatly wound and is more flat in shape and can be handled easily and stored neatly. The winder is very easy to attach to the counter top in our kitchen. My husband even likes to do the winding and he too thinks it is a great and useful product. 04/02/2010
Rated 5 out of 5★ by No more tangled yarn. :) This winder was highly recommended to me, I balked at the price because I saw similar ones cheaper, but reviews seemed to tell of broken parts. I am happy with this purchase and the ease of ordering it. 11/28/2013
