Quiet, Cold, Has a Water Drain (MUST READ)!!!! If you are looking for a Window A/C this is the one you want (LG 10,000 BTU Window Air Conditioner, model LW1012ER).
Believe me, read this full review before you buy any Air Conditioner!!!! Let me start out by saying this LG unit I ordered online replaced a Haier Brand 12,000 BTU unit which I purchased last year from Walmart. I actually paid around $20 more for the Haier unit, probably because it was 12,000 BTU vs. the 10,000 BTU of this LG unit and Haier was the only brand of A/c they sold in-store around here. Both are almost identical in physical size. The Haier Unit was LOUD, I couldn't hear TV with the unit screaming near me in the living room. The air was cool, but the room never got too cold which meant the Haier unit was running at max capacity all the time just to keep up. Last but not least most Air conditioners including the Haier have a SEVERE design flaw, they do not have any drain for the water to drip out the back! Instead the new units are built to allow the water to build up and pool inside. This creates a big problem. The fan in the back of the unit will hit the water and fling it all over the side of your house creating a dirty, moldy mess after many months of use, and also rotten wood if you have any wood at all around your window (inside or out) etc. It will get so bad water will actually start coming INSIDE your house as well, not just a little water BUT A LOT OF WATER ON HUMID DAYS! And yes we did have the unit properly leaning back, not forward. We are not idiots. All The newer units hold A LOT of water inside with nowhere for the water to drain (except for the LG units which do have a drain!). I am told the manufactures designed the units like this on purpose, their thought is the water inside will help cool the unit to make it run more efficiently. They say it is supposed to do that!! It doesn't work like they wished it would... The LG Unit is great! As I mentioned above it is 2,000 BTUs less than a comparable unit of the same physical size and price, but that doesn't matter. It actually cools BETTER, it is not whisper quiet but even with the fan on HIGH, as high as it will go I can still hear TV just fine! On lower settings it isn't much louder than a normal floor fan we use. By comparison the Haier was WAY louder, I couldn't hear TV without cranking it up much higher than I do now. Finally I would never ever again ever purchase an A/C unit that did not come with a drain, and LG is apparently the only brand who makes A/c units with a drain anymore. I Live in SD and we have HIGH humidity. We installed this unit replacing the Haier and we have NO water leaking inside the house, and no water flinging all over the side of the house from the fan. It also cools better, the air is colder, the unit is quieter, and again, NO LEAKING WATER! It just drips out the back like it is supposed to if you install the included drain!!!!!! Just to give you an idea of how much water an air conditioner can create, I placed a 5 gallon bucket under our new LG A/C drain outside. It has only been 20 hours since I installed it and the bucket is 1/2 full. So just where do the manufacturers of other brands of A/C units expect 2.5 gallons of water to go everyday if there is no drain hole? They want all that water to be flung out by the fan all over your house, and also some of it drip inside your home??? Stick with LG and avoid water problems!!! Don't make the same mistake as me, Just order and LG unit right away. Good Price, Easy to install, cools very well, quieter than other units, and NO WATER PROBLEMS! 5 Stars!
