"Here stood a tower of marvelous shape. It was fashioned by the builders of old, who smoothed the Ring of Isengard, and yet it seemed a thing not made by the craft of Men, but riven from the bones of the earth in the ancient torment of the hills". I was very excited to hear this had finally been released! Looking at the pictures online don't do it justice. It looks far bigger in real life! Orthanc was fun to build surprisingly being mostly all black. There was a few small moments when It got repetitive doing the same thing over, but stepping back and looking and it's awesomeness kept me going. It's got some nice little easter eggs hidden away inside and I found replacing the black orb with the Eye of Suaron with clear globe from the "Wizard Battle" set much more aesthetically pleasing. Pros It's the Tower of Orthanc need I say more Saurman and Wormtounge lego figures. The Ent Light Brick Cons The price is abit steep, but worth it Should of come with more Orcs and Uruk Hai

I've never spent this much money on a Lego set. I'm a Lord of the Rings fan and was able to collect the first wave of LOTR Lego sets. I've loved them but still - this was an expensive set and most of my other sets I was able to receive as gifts. I read and watched some reviews for the Tower of Orthanc. It really did look great, but I was still hesitant. I knew I was going to want this as possibly the best of all the LOTR Lego sets. So I pulled the trigger. I am not in the least bit disappointed! It took me a couple days to build this thing, it's size really is impressive! You can tell it was designed by LOTR fans. Details from the books and movies are a part of this set and it looks amazing. There are 3 staffs to account for the missing wizards in LOTR, as well as 5 tapestries depicting each of them (decals). There are the 2 sets of keys to the 2 towers. The Palantir is cool. The iconic look of the tower they nailed. If you're feeling hesitant like I was - just get it! It makes my Helm's Deep set look tiny!

A great rendition of Orthanc that is brimming with detail both on the inside and outside of the model. It's just a very interesting model to look at, even though so much of it is black. I'm not usually fussed about "play details" but the extra touches on the inside of tower really add some colour and there's lots of nods to the film trilogy going on. The Ent really surprised me and was a very enjoyable build. It's so refreshing to build something that looks and feels organic, and Lego have done a great job making it fully articulated too. A stable and posable model that Lego could easily sell on its own. I wouldn't be surprised to see a Treebeard set in the near future and I would purchase without hesitation. Overall I really enjoyed the build, and the resulting model is one of the most striking and impressive in my collection. Highly recommended for AFOLs and I think there's loads of variety and interest in the play features, minifigures and the Ent to keep younger builders happy for hours! Great job Lego.

As an experienced LEGO builder, the first thing about this set that was attractive to me was the architecture of the tower. The sideways building techniques made it possible to capture many great details of the tower, especially for making the sides of the first two levels. The minifigures Saruman and Grima Wormtongue had lots of details on the pieces. I thought that the Ent was AMAZING and it was a key part of this set for the Lord of the Rings fans. I would like to have seen Gandalf the White instead of the included Gandalf the Grey. I took Merry and Pippin from the original Lego Lord of the Rings sets (from 2012) and placed them on the Ent because they were not included, which I thought would have made another great addition. The LEGO company did a very good job on including details in the six rooms, especially the inclusion of the Light Brick for the palantir. I think that this set is great to play with due to all the features in it, and it makes a fantastic addition to any LEGO collection. The LEGO Company did a great job on The Tower of Orthanc!

My six year-old son and I have played through Lego Batman, lego harry Potter and Lego LOTR on the Xbox. The lego LOTR game was highly enjoyable and thoroughly consistent with Peter Jackson's movies, and, consequently, my son knows more about LOTR than I do. If you ever want to know the difference between a Uruk-Hai and a Beserker, well, contact us. This tower is a great build but was tough on my six year-old. I ended up doing most of the building (the walls are detailed but somewhat fragile, especially the window aspects). There are details to this tower that go beyond geekdom. For example, who are the portraits hanging in one of the rooms? Saruman's friends? family? idols? What do the book covers symbolize (aside from the one with the giant EYE on it)? I would love for LEGO to publish a completed DVD of the Lego LOTR shorts and movies. The lego LOTR version is fun and full of humor (ever see the horsemen of Rohan can-can dance?) and we loved watching the shorts. It would complete my child's LOTR experience and introduce LOTR to a whole new generation of young children.

The build took longer than I expected and was no where near as repetitive as I had originally feared. There are many clever building techniques used in this model. The folding trap door ladder is probably one of my favorites. The newish pieces for potion/bottle lids are brilliant. It does have one of my biggest bugbears, that being 1x1 pieces (plates or bricks) stacked on each other. Lining them up on new pieces can be a pain if you don't get them right the first time. The new pieces don't have that little bit of give for easy twisting.. I'm seriously considering a second, to modify, and have hinged off this one just to have a "complete" scene available model. Maybe if I can ever pick one up cheap off an auction site. The only issue with it...It's big. This, the Super Star Destroyer, the Imperial shuttle, and any of the tall ship models are just a pain to display.

I am extremely excited for July 1st! As a HUGE LOTR fan, this is the ultimate LEGO set! I have been thrilled with all of the sets for LOTR and the Hobbit so far, but this is definitely the set to rule them all! I am very impressed with the size and amount of detail on the tower itself, and the detailed floors on the other side will make the model very exciting to play with. I can't wait to reenact the downfall of Isengard with Saruman looking down on his balcony, this leads me to my next point. I am VERY excited to finally get an Ent!!! I'm assuming it is Treebeard, and I am very glad they added him to the set. The only possible negative about this set is the orcs- I wish they came with hairpieces or there were more. But that is just being picky. There really isn't anything huge to complain about... My first stop on July 1st will be to the LEGO store!

What a fun build! This is a very nice height and looks great with the ent that comes with it. I like the various levels and the great amount of detail then went into each room. My only critique is I wish the exterior of the tower went the full 360 instead of just 180. It would be cool if this split in half to reveal the interior. A shame this was the only really large set for these movies. I'm not into tiny play sets, I prefer bigger sets that look good on display. I went over to Weta for the parchment map of Middle Earth which is a nice accent to the tower. My set was missing a curved support piece and a few tile pieces but Lego sent the parts within two weeks so I'm very satisfied with that.

After having a great time with three of us building my friend's Star Destroyer a couple of months ago, I thought we should build something over the holiday period... I wanted something big and fun, and with 3 instruction books so we could all build a section each as we had done with the Star Destroyer. I looked through the models available and chose the Lego Orthanc. It was pretty hard to keep that selection as secret for two months, especially when the huge box arrived! We then had another friend hear about this and wanted in on the fun too (how could we say no?), and then his sister too - thank goodness for PDF rulebooks! In the end we had five of us, age 19-46 round the table collaborating to build this fantastic monster that just kept getting bigger and bigger and better - right up to the "pinnacles sharp as the points of spears". In the end it is the perfect Lego model - both an impressive piece but also loads of fun details. We took about 2 1/2 hours, which was just about the right time to do in one session. The next on the list is the Batman Tumbler, ordered by the friend described above for his birthday - the only problem is that is 2 months away.

Having just bought myself a Weta movie original copy of the Tower of Orthanc earlier this year(I got one of the last ones), Lego have gone and finally made a Lego version of my very favourite tower in the whole of Middle Earth for me to also add to my collection(there are lots of towers both in ME and here in new Zealand-home of Middle Earth but Orthans is my very favourite, even over the tower Ecthelion). I am also a HUGE modulars fan. Minus three hard to get sets, I have the whole Market street(lego afficionados will know which sets I mean). I like the way this set breaks upinto stories, playable and poseable movie sets if you like. Tolkien would definately approved of this, and I do to, thanks LEGO, you just blew me away :) So what is next? a 6000 piece Lego Barad-Dur me asks? One can only dream...
