This arrived yesterday and I now have the complete City Train collection! Another fantastic train set from LEGO and the perfect complement to the 7939 Cargo Train. From box to fully built in under half an hour, this is probably the easiest of the LEGO City trains to build. The rear carriage/fake engine is almost an identical copy of the driven engine so once you have completed one, the second is really easy. Looks good on the track and runs really nicely so long as you do not select maximum speed. Even on a layout without using any flex-track, this train will come off on curves at high speed! I'm using 1.2v rechargeable NiMH batteries instead of 1.5v Alkaline batteries so I only have 7.2v to play with instead of 9v, so I hate to think how twitchy it would be on full speed at full voltage! My guess is that this train is a little lighter than the 7939 Cargo Train or the Red Cargo Train and would probably benefit from the loading of an extra carriage or two. Otherwise, I can't fault it!

As an adult collector of LEGO (over 300 sets) I really like when the new trains come out to add to my collection. It's always fun to add a new high speed train to the line up of older sets (7745 high speed, Metroliner, etc), especially when it has some new build designs, etc. This train definitely meets those needs and is similar to the current Euro-train designs. I like the new power functions system and controls, though it comes at a hefty price of losing an entire ca's interior spacer (for the battery box and remote control items) and also adds a lot to the cost of this set, which is redundant if you purchase the other new cargo train. I'd buy this again, but feel younger children will have issues with the 9AA batteries required, their lifespan, and replacing them requires a lot of screws, a little screwdriver, and $$$. 12V and 9V trains were far less maintenance, easier to set up, and ran forever - something I love under the Christmas tree.

LEGO Re-enters Model Railroading Market Strongly

LEGO hits a home run with their Passenger Train. It took me about 5 hours construction and was very detailed yet basic in the building of the train! The train is very lifelike and relates to the hi-speed trains of the 21st Century. The 7 speed system allows for an exciting yet simplified power control to the locomotive. The power functions are well protected in the package and final product, a great investment for the young model train builder! The wheels align to the track easily and feature strong axles in metal and hard plastic. I would recommend purchasing additional track to make the layouts a little more interesting, but the track itself is very strong and resistant to bending, and features an easy snap locking system for creating complex or simple layouts. All in all, the LEGO City Passenger Train is an excellent investment for the model railroading or LEGO enthusiast! LEGO brings together the best of both worlds in the Passenger Train!

firstly i must congratulate LEGO what a excellent job you did on this set if i had 1 billion pounds i would honestly buy 5 of these and a mansion... but thats not the point firstly before i review this prrroduct i must complane along with all the other LEGO fans WHY THE LACK OF TRACK! you see sets like the cargo train and the red cargo train with straights and switching points while with this set you only get curves and ugly flexi track WHATS THE DEAL WITH THAT!! flexi track is terrible terrible i mean look at it its not realistic in the slightest way LEGO city sets try to be as realistic as they can but this just comes along and ruins it i mean trains run on rails NOT GROOVES i suppose it has its uses like filling in for a quarter straight or making a funky looking s shape but avoid it if possible apart from that this train is a great buy get 2 if you can peace out city builder 543

The Greatest Set!!!!

Wow. I was very surprised when I first built this set. This is a very great set. It is a fairly easy but long and fun build. I was very happy how fast the train could go. The problem is it burns off battery fast so I would get one of the ten years plus battery pack. The train is bigger than I expected. It has 2 hatches at each end of the train so you can fit 2 workers. You can also fit 10 passengers. Thats 12 people total. The good thing is the passengers arent crammed they have plenty of room in the cars. The amount of track is fair. More than I expected. It is enough to play with but you still dont get very much. I would buy the straight and flexible first to get more track. I got a ton for christmas so this set is much more fun to plat with. So all in all this is one of the best sets I have and is a great set. It is a little pricey but you get your money for it. THIS IS A GREAT SET!

AWESOME SET except the part when i was about to put batteries in the batterie box i could not unscrew it. the screw kept on just turning around so me and my dad got a drill that did'nt work either, so we tried it with a screw driver again realy hard and we got ONE screw off but eventually somehow we got the other one off. soo i never screwed the screws back on,the screws are just sitting in the holes where they go. The set is very nice when you have fresh batteries the train goes super fast and just rockets along the track.personally i use mine as a metro so it isnt a train that takes you city to city,it just takes you to different stops in my town i love the colour choice of the train it is very good ,but i think lego could have fitted more chairs instead of tables because it only carries ten people but i make some people stand. it comes with two people one driver one woman passenger and a male passenger, the people look nice but the set should have came with more people. I and many other people thinnk lego should have EXPANSION SETS! BECAUSE REALISTIC TRAINS HAVE WAY MORE THAN THREE TRAIN CARS.

This is much better then the last passenger train set by a long shot! First of all, finally, you can sit a minifigure anywhere you want without their head pushing the roof up! (unless, of course, you give them a top hat.) Second, a red train! so much `brighter` then a white or green train. I`ve heard a lot of complaints about the flexible track, but it isn't THAT bad! while it is a little shaky when the train is too fast, and doesn't look so great, it is wonderful for pulloffs and unusual track layouts. And yes, only three minifigures is horrible for a train that can fit ten! I do like the little platform, but if you own the train station already you might as well use the parts for something else. generally, the train itself is pretty easy to build, but you might want an adult or experienced teenager to build the power functions section if a little kid tries to build this set on his own.16 more curves are nice to have if you already have tracks to spare, but if not, seriously consider buying a track set or two. overall, it`s worth saving your money for and is great for city fans or train fans. miniman signing out!

This was received as a gift. It stays together well when operating. This is our first Lego train and we're surprised how well it works and how well the remote control system works. We have not had trouble with derailments. Design-wise one I wish they'd come up with a way for the battery box light to be visible from the top of the train, so it is easy to tell if it is actually off. The track selection that comes with this kit is poor. For the price they should include more track. To make a fun layout we had to buy a box of switches and two boxes of straight track, and that seems to us like a minimum. That said, it is really fun, we're impressed with how well it works. This is a good way to get into model trains which are more fun than the wooden trains, since they can be controlled, and are very tolerant of kid-play, unlike the "real" model trains like HO, N, scale models you find in the hobby shop. The kids wish that Lego offered generic car kits with wheels, hitches and baseplate with which they can make their own car creations to add to the train. Seems like an obvious thing to have for a toy that stresses building.

This was my first traditional battery powered LEGO train set. Functionally I have to say I was impressed. The motor and controller are very nice. I am not a big fan of batteries but being able to use the rechargeable PF battery box is great for those of us that run our trains a lot. My one major negative is the flex track. I think it is terrible. On smooth surfaces it shifts terribly. It is better on carpeted floor but not much. I thought 3 figs was on the light side and as expected with LEGO passenger trains the platform is minimal. This Power Functions train is much better then the previous batter trains and is much easier to build and more reliable to run than the Emerald Night. Another bonus, if you have 2 PF trains you can run them both on one controller (One on each side). Can't wait to get the Cargo Train.

My son got this for Christmas and has played with it nearly every day since. He did discover that you must have fresh batteries or train will not pull all the cars. Also, recommend getting the extra track.
