Rated 1 out of 5★ by Poor instructions Building the lego models was very easy, but the game instructions do not explain how to play the "game". I went online and found the official videos for how to play this particular game, but even this was not clear.I get that you can send one Speedor through the first gate, and this should send the little blue ball up into the air and one of you can catch it.But why do the instructions tell you to launch both Speedors... one going through the obstacles and the other going right around them? And what's the deal with the other obstacle which, when you hit it, simply knocks the ball straight to the floor? And don't even get me started on the card game - that made no sense at all from the instructions. And why does the video cut away so often that you can't really tell what's going on? This made me suspicious that this thing doesn't work at all, and that the kids in the video couldn't actually get any of this to work in practice. The whole thing smacks of a great idea that wasn't properly tested to make sure it worked. Despite that, my son enjoyed making the craft, and enjoys speeding them into the obstacles and sending everything flying... which is all this is good for. But if you're expecting some kind of game that 2 can play... forget it. 07/15/2013
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Great Idea, Great Fun To me, it appears that the Legends of Chima theme picks up where Ninjago left off, and makes it even better. This is the second most expensive of the Speedorz sets in the range, but it's incredibly well thought out.You get two minifigures, Cragger the crocodile and Laval the lion, both are very well detailed minifgures and you can change their eye positions by rotating their heads, but this feature makes it rather annoying to turn the heads in a general way (but this an incredibly minor issue). Neither minifigure is unique to this set. Both minifigures have their own respective chi weapons. The Speedorz themselves are great. They have detailed shell patternings that don't require any stickers! They function by inserting a rip cord into them and pulling it out, and are relatively easy to work, effective and great fun to release and watch them go, and you don't need a smooth surface necessarily for them to work (they do function on carpet to some extent). The lion's mouth 'gate/target' is very well thought out and works effectively. Hit the target and this makes a technic axle flip up and catapult a ball of chi into the air. The design of this lion head is also very good and certainly looks the part. However, the Speedorz do tend to get stuck in the gate if they're not going fast enough. The chi tower has some cool parts attached to it, and you hit it by launching a Speedor off a ramp which has a tree/leaf piece on it. This tree piece often results in your Speedor not launching off the ramp properly, so it's best to remove it.The game cards that come with the set also have some cool artwork on them, but the game works either with or without them.My personal favourite pieces are the chi - I like their shape and the translucent blue colour.Overall, this is a great set for continuing your Chima Speedorz collection and is highly recommended. 01/10/2013
Rated 4 out of 5★ by A Decent Start to a New Theme I got this set because I thought it would be an easy one to get an idea about this new theme. After I built it, I thought about what I would say in this review. I think this is a good theme, and if you like Ninjago, you will definitely like this theme. That leads me on to the next issue. I like this theme and would get more sets, but I think that it is basically replacing Ninjago. I don't think that's a bad thing, but it is a bit unoriginal. I think that, now that Ninjago is going to be stopped (the show is over), Lego wants to make a new theme with collectible figures, games, cards, and a special item to use with that game. In this example, Speedorz. Boy, I feel dorky saying that. Sounds appealing for younger kids, but in middle school through high school, it wont win you any friends. The speedorz are interesting and fun to play with, but they are replacing the spinners from Ninjago. I don't yet know which ones I like better, but they both have their ups and downs. Like this review if your characters didn't knock people out of their spinners when you were battling, but fell out when you were spinning for fun. :) Now the speedorz worked well and went fast, but you can't control them well, and I had to build walls to have them stay in a straight line. Luckily, I have been building since I was 5, and have a large collection, but for people who recently started, it won't be good. Also, they didn't go up the ramp, and went off to the side when (or if) they hit it. Next, the power upz (another dorky name) were more like slower downz, in the sense that they dragged along on the floor. The minifigures Laval and Cragger were very good and detailed, so were their weapons I liked Cragger's cape a lot. I liked the lion's mouth gate and how the chi spilled off when you go through. The actual speedorz game was fun with the cards, but the directions didn't make it clear what to do with the cards.Pros: minifiguresspeedorz were fastdetailed gatechi functiongood start to themegood card drawings and uses on cardsCons: unoriginaldorky name (speedorz)too expensive for a small setunclear game directonspower upz (slower downz)speedorz didn't go staight or up the ramp 01/21/2013
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Laval and Cragger! Ultimate speedor tournament is a great set.It also comes with both Laval and Cragger! Now for the pros and cons:Pros-Laval and Cragger!-Endless speedor possibilities-Many fun challenges to create.Cons-There are none! 07/15/2013
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Awesome This is my first Speedorz set and is definitely worth the money. It includes Laval, leader of the Lion Tribe, and Cragger, leader of the Crocodile Tribe. This is the cheapest way to get both minifigures and is certainly worth it if you want two of the story's protagonists. However, I was disappointed that Laval's weapon wasn't golden, as he's usually represented with a gold sword instead of silver. Each character has two desired weapons, one for one-on-one combat and another for use on their Speedorz. The Speedorz are nicely detailed and are somewhat heavy due to the solid metal wheel that is attached to them. My only problem with them is that removing the top to dislodge your minifigures is a little difficult. Otherwise, they are nicely designed and roll smoothly when in use.Chima does not fail to impress me with the set designs. The lion-head gate looks amazing. There is a target attached to it that loosens one of the Chi orbs when hit and allows the player to obtain it. There is also a working ramp with rubber pieces supporting it for extra traction when a Speedor runs over it. The Chi fountain is also an interesting touch; however, it can be tedious to balance the Chi orb appropriately in the middle of the bowl as it tends to fall out a lot.Overall, I am quite pleased with this set as I am with all of the other sets I have from this theme. Chima is an epic new series and I hope it continues for a long time. 01/13/2013
