I looked all over for a desk for each of my 10 yr old twin girls that did not cost a fortune and this is exactly what I was looking for. After reading ALL of the reviews I knew what to expect from this product. There was no damage to either desk (maybe a nick or two) it took me and my girls about 3 hrs on the first one then 2 hrs on the next. Easy directions to follow if you have every put together boxed furniture then you will be fine. Great size, good storage with adjustable shelves, the center drawer has a optional flip down front for a key board, the cabinet shelf adjusts or can be used for hard drive. The chair is a nice option. My girls are small but I think they will be able to use for years to come. I am 5'7" and I can sit at is comfortably. The desk is heavy so I feel like it is pretty sturdy. It seems every bit as nice as the $1200.00 pottery barn equal.

Good desk for price

Took my husband about 2.5 hours to build it. Some parts arrived with some very small nicks but I painted them and they are fine. The chair was too low for my 8 year old daughter who is above average height. This is because the desk is designed so that the drawer opens to put a keyboard and that height is fine for the chair and arms if you will use a keyboard. If you don't use a keyboard then the desk is too high for my girl's arms so I had to buy a cushion about 3 inches high. On quality, this is not Pottery Barn quality you can tell with the joints and paint job but overall the look is good. Of course the value is tons better than PB so what more can you ask for. Cork is thin so push pins don't go deep. For the price the desk is a great value. I love the amount of storage it has vs other desks.

I purchased this desk for my seven year old and so far am very pleased with it. It is nice looking and has plenty of storage space. The cork on the hutch is a bit thin so the average thumbtack will not push all the way through. The chair is sturdy and looks great with the desk. The only real drawback was some of the holes were not drilled completely through. Overall I would definitely recommend this set.

I bought this desk for my 7 year old. I didnt want to spend a fortune, but I also wanted something decent. So after a good bit of research I chose this desk and I am more than pleased. I have had it for about 3 months now and I have not one complaint. The value in itself is enough but after marker appeared on the top of the desk I used a magic clean eraser and it came right off without a hitch. I could not have found more quality for this price, I know. Most furniture stores wanted three times the price of this desk. The assembly took 3 people and approx 3 hours but everything was included and easy to read. My daughter and I are both Happy with this choice!!

Overall we are happy with the desk and hutch as we only paid $330 for it. It is of similar quality to some from the likes of Lea furniture that cost double. However please do not expect high quality. My husband put it all together relatively easily but Walmart could take a few lessons from Ikea - Ikea pieces come in perfect condition and fit perfectly into each other at prices equivalent or lower to Walmart's. On this desk we purchased, the paint on two legs was scratched and some shelves had slight scratch marks. The screw for the drawer's knob is not long enough so the knob has fallen off. These are just details that do not impair on the use of the desk but show that attention to details and good quality control are lacking. I read comments about the fact that the white paint appeared thin. This is not correct - the colour is a nice even white. The desk and hutch look good. My daughter who is 8 loves the desk and hutch - it is a nice practical design and she will enjoy as long as it lasts...

I bought this for my daughter's 7th birthday in August 2012. My husband assembled it by himself at his leisure over the course of a few days. Altogether, I'd say it took him 2-3 hours. He said it was easy to assemble & we had no broken pieces. Having had it for nearly 1.5 years now, we are still just as happy with it as when we first purchased it. I bought it on sale for less than $300, and for that price, you can't beat it. It's somewhat similar to a PB Teen desk yet at a fraction of the cost. Is it made as well? No, but I wouldn't expect it to be. The ONLY complaint I have is that the corkboard is very, very thin. If you use pushpins, you have to put them in at an angle for them to go in & (kind of) stay in. Would be nice for the cork to be thicker, but we make do. All in all, a cute desk/hutch/chair. We are so happy with it that I am considering buying another one for my youngest's upcoming 7th birthday next month.

To be fair, this desk did arrive undamaged and does look rather nice once assembled but plan to spend a couple hours (or longer) doing so as there are SEVERAL pieces. As a budget conscious parent I was extremely disappointed with the product overall. It is overpriced for what it is, it is not a very stable piece, it is a small/short desk that will not do for a teenager, and multiple key parts separated or broke during normal assembly. I was not rough or over forceful when assembling the desk but as much of it is made of compressed particle board, I ended up using plastic zip ties and extra screws just to hold it together when it began to split and brake apart. I would have sent it back at that point but I had already invested too much time in getting it together, was able to hide my repairs pretty well, and there was no way that it was going to fit back into the box by then. I would not recommend this item to anyone and would not purchase it again. Good luck.

The reviews were very helpful. This desk is quite sturdy and my daughter loves all the compartments in the hutch. Despite all the parts, it only took about 2 hours to put together. The chair is short for my 11 year old, but that really was just a bonus. I paid $250 for all three pieces--would have cost over $500 at a furniture store for the same quality. Great value!

I must say I had my doubts purchasing a desk with a hutch AND chair for $250, especially after reading some of the reviews about the model coming damaged and/or being flimsy and hard to assemble. What I found was just the opposite. The desk is terrific - solid construction that was a breeze to put together. It looks wonderful in my daughter's bedroom. I spent many, many hours online searching for a desk that met my shape and storage needs at a price I could afford. This item not only met those needs but exceeded them. I highly recommend this desk.

Is the hutch not attached? And is that a bulletin board in the hutch? What color is that? Is it cork? Almost looks like a magnetic chalk board. Thanks.

  • A. It is cork in the bulletin board...and very thin. I am going to replace it with a thicker cork that can actually hold a push pin!

  • A. The hutch is not attached, but comes with two small pieces of wood that can screw into the back of the desk and hutch to keep them stable. The bulletin board is cork, but is very thin and does not work well with push pins.

  • A. The hutch attached during assembly, but arrives in a seperate box than the desk. In the hutch is a cork board, but don't plan on using it because the cork is super think and nothing will stick to it.

  • A. The hutch attaches with a few screws in the back. It's just enough to keep it from falling off the desk. The cork is a waste of time and materials -- you will need to replace it with a real corkboard.
