  • A. Yes, this Wal-Mart package included a SanDisk 4GB SDHC Card, which slides in right next to the two (2) AA batteries, which were also included in this package, along with a Kodak battery recharger. Honestly, you cannot go wrong with this Wal-Mart Package.

  • A. I bought the camera as a package; normally you would have to buy the SD card separately. WalMart.com's offer last month included the camera, charger, case and SD card - a 4GB one that even with the detail of the pictures, should still hold about 700 pictures.

I had been trying to find a replacement camera for the Kodak 5mp that I just flat wore out. I tried Nikon, Fuji, and GE. NONE were able to produce photos as good as my trusty Kodak even though they were 10, 12, and 14mp. The C183 out performed all of the others by a long shot. Images come out sharp, clear, and in focus even with the camera and subject both moving. With a huge variety of capture modes to cover almost any kind of condition. I would recommend this camera for people who would rather get the shot first time everytime.

I got this as a Christmas present to myself. I started out testing it by taking pictures of neighborhoods with Christmas lights. One thing to note: It may take several shots before one comes out right because the lights will blur. This can be important if you go to a concert, so beware. This is a great way to test a shot before hand. I also went home and took test shots at home. The camera will pic out a face. If you take a picture of a pet at dusk and they have green or blue eyes, they may end up with glassy eyes-not red. It is weird. We do have a tuxedo cat and we have always had trouble picking him up in pictures. Even in dim lighting, he comes out great with this camera. That is a plus for anyone with a dark colored pet. Please beware that when you do upload your pictures to your computer, each photo will run approx. 2 MB's each. That is a lot, but you are also getting extremely rich colors and not dulled or dotted out photos. My suggestion is to purchase a removable hard drive for your photos so that it does not load down your pc or hard drive. Overall, for the price that this camera is, I'd say this is a great product. By the way, it's not just a camera. It is also a cameracorder! That has worked well too! Again, heavy in the MB's though.

Kodak C183 Digital Camera
1/10/2011

Customer review by RetiredComputerSpecialist

I purchased the Kodak C183 as a small, backup camera. My goal was to purchase a Sub-$80.00 camera to keep in the glove box of my vehicle for spur of the moment photographs. I was delighted not only to find a camera on sale for $59.00, but a name-brand camera as well. I have been using the camera primarily for house-hunting in Sacramento, California. I use it to document the exteriors and interiors of the various homes toured. At the end of the day, it makes it much easier to remember which house was which. The build quality of the camera is on par with other digital cameras in the $100.00 to $150.00 range. The quality of the photographs is equal to digital cameras in the sub-$200.00 range. The lens is a 32mm to 96mm equivalent, which is good for basic snapshots. The 32mm (wide-angle) is “okay” for a camera at this price point, and is "good" for taking interior shots of homes – especially in smaller rooms. The 96mm (telephoto) is rather limited, so I would rate it at only “fair.” The high megapixel count (14 MP) is what “grabs” most people’s interest when purchasing a camera. But, “high pixel count” – especially in point-and-shoot cameras -- is poor criteria when deciding on which digital camera to purchase. Keep in mind – a higher pixel count does NOT translate into better quality or sharper pictures. In fact, a high pixel rating in inexpensive point-and-shoot cameras can actually be a negative thing, because the camera’s optical sensor is about the same size, from camera to camera, in point-and-shoot digital cameras. That is, trying to squeeze a high pixel count – 14MP – into a sensor designed for adequately handle 5MP has some technical trade-offs, and does NOT translate into “better pictures.” If you are spending money on "more pixels" you will not always be getting an equal value for spending the extra money for more pixels. The attached photograph 001 was taken wide-angle on “auto.” Photograph 002, is the same photo with a 300% crop to example the camera’s resolution quality. Tight cropping or making prints over 11x14 is the only reason to worry about a camera’s “pixel count.” But, generally, if you are going to constantly make prints 11x14 or larger, then a point-and-shoot camera is not the proper tool – you would be better served by a semi-pro digital with a bigger sensor, and that would be at the $1,000.00 and up price point. Bottom line: For a sub-$100.00 digital camera, the Kodak C183 will produce very nice, sharp digital photographs with good color saturation. My only gripe: The SD memory card is inside the door that holds the batteries. So, when you want to remove the SD card, the batteries are subjected to falling out of the camera. Yes, a door sharing the batteries with the SD card is a cost-saving design, but a stupid design.

KODAK FAILED WITH THIS

This product has one problem which is the most serious one. This camera cannot take two pictures successfully within 3 seconds. If you try, the second picture will be blurred or even dark at night. The flash is so slow that you can count from 1-7 before you snap a second good picture. This is the only problem with this camera and its one of the most serious problem in cameras. If you have an occasions, do not use this camera because you will miss many moments to take fast pictures. If you insist, the other will be blurred and the screen will tell you processing. The camera does not think fast so it takes all its time to flash and the memory to store a single photo. I wasted my money. Have given it to my son as a toy. An 8MP camera for $35 is faster than this. If you think that am lying, go to the shop, buy one and try taking 5 fast photos before leaving. I bet you, you will refund it. check the 2 successive pics below.

Decent Kodak C183 Camera Value
1/30/2011

Customer review by rich1x

For the price, this is really a very decent camera...I have an old Kodak DX4900 which takes great pictures. In the +/- $100.00 range, none, yet, compare in picture quality. I tried Nikon, Panasonic, Sony, and even Canon...the picture clarity just could not compare to my DX4900. I wanted a camera to also take some short videos as well as photos. Whereas, all these take videos, I think they lack lens quality for the sake of including video. Anyway, I decided to go the low cost route with this Kodak C183 camera. I am not disappointed. The picture quality is decent, videos are nice and no sound disruption when zooming. I hated that with the higher priced cameras or not having zoom available during video. Overall, I recommend this camera for it's decent picture quality, video, features and low cost.
