The Table top does have small spaces between the slates. But they are still very easy to clean or hose off.
You can also put down a piece of construction or art paper for playdough.

The only thing the playdough would get stuck in is the hole/slot for the umbrella, the rest of the table has a slight texture but overall smooth surface.

YES it will get stuck! My children eat on mine and cheerios, etc get stuck almost daily.

I am the one who asked this question originally. I did buy the table, and yes mine has spaces although they are not very big.. I don't know if there is one with a flat surface but this one DOES catch playdoh and anything else small enough to get in there. It isn't a bad little table, but it is not a flat one.

Does the top have spaces in between slats?

You could definitely seat 3 small kids on each side. I have a 3 yr old and a 19 month old and when the kids next door come over to eat on the picnic table they will always try to sit as many kids as they can on one side and 3 seem to fit very comfortably. I haven't quite maxed it out at 6 kids yet but I honestly think it can get the job done. This table is awesome!

my 5yr and 3yr old boys site nicely together on one side of the table. I assume if the kids are small enough you could try to do 3 on one side, but it's really not enough table space for 3; 2 fits more comfortably.

I think that is possible. I can put 2 4 year olds on each side. My daughter is 2 and she could easily fit with 2 other kids. I think it depends on how tall they are.

Probably not. Two for sure. If they're really small, you could maybe squeeze 3, but not likely.

if the children are very small. the table is very cute and sturdy but has very little leg room. my daughter who is 3 and small for her age could not sit on it because of the leg room but it was fine for my brothers 1 yr old.

I think the table would be ok for a 5 year old but the other older children, it might be a tight squeeze. I find I can only fit 2 4 year olds on either side.

No. there is very little leg room. my daughter is 3 and small for her age and had no leg room so we returned it. the liitle tykes folding table with umbrella will work better. it cost about 10-15 more but is well worth the money.

No the benches are much too small for kids that age. My 5 year old is fairly big for his age and tall and he can not sit at the benches.

It seems best for ages 2-6. It's a little small for the bigger kids.

Sturdy fit my daughter and her 3 friends ages 3-5 years old and held everything perfectly. My mom also sat at the table with her. Highly recommended it!

Perfect picnic table

This table is great! My twins got it as a gift from their grandparents on their second birthday. It is sturdy and very nice-looking, easy to put together (as quick as advertised) and will work inside or out. We currently have it in their playroom and they use it for coloring or playing with other toys (they look so cute sitting at their table with their Leaptop computers, "typing" away!) Would be great for picnics or crafts, although I would have them sit on the same bench next to each other rather than across from each other, because the width of the table probably wouldn't have room for two lunches or crafts/etc with kids sitting directly across from each other. : )

I was buying this for my 3 little grandchildren, so I couldn't use a real tiny one, & knowing that kids will climb all over & will all sit on the same side or whatever, I was looking for an appropriate size, a good value, $ a product strong enough for not only those 3 children, but other cousins & friends as well; This was plastic & light weight, yet sturdy, & it really is able to be put together in seconds as stated; Adults sat on the bench & it truly is sturdy & well built; It is plastic, but not that cheap, bubble-type plastic that is cheap & that the sun eats up in FL; Little legs won't get splinters or burned like they would on wood or metal benches, & it fols up easily for storage or moving around!!!

A great little table for pre-schoolers!!!

Very easy to set up and take down. Was concerned that it would be too small but my tall 5 yr old and almost 2 year old sons could get off and on without issues and both sat comfortably.
