The adapter that fits out the window is very poor quailty. I have glued and taped it and it still dont stay connected. Its plastic and dont work. If purchasing this product, you will have to also purchase your own adapter.

Works OK but window/wall unit would be better.

If you are trying to cool a room that is at the top end of the specs they give for this unit, (700 sq. ft.) this unit isn't gonna cut it. I have the 14,000 btu in our 400 sq. ft. living room with a 200 sq. ft. kitchen and dining room and the 12,000 btu unit (500 sq. ft. recommended) in the 240 sq. ft. bedroom and 120 sq. ft. hall and 60 sq. ft. bathroom. Include a couple other small areas and it adds up to about 1100 sq. ft. We do OK but I wouldn't say that it is making that great a difference in the temp. on those really hot days.... Maybe we are running less humidity in the house but we don't have that much change in the temp inside from the outside temps. I do have the A/Cs close to maxed out on the sq. ft. specified but I can tell you from experience that window or wall units with the same btu ratings and the same area covered would be running icy cold compared to marginally cooler with these 2 units. I plan on putting one more in another area soon to cool the house a bit better. But alas we have no windows that are big enough for the larger btu units and not really into cutting a hole in the wall and paying for an electrician to install a 220 plug to run one of those. But if you can afford it and don't mind going there, that would definitely be a better option. I gave the unit the 4 rating overall because I already knew what the 12,000 was capable of and the 14,000 does a way better job than the first one I bought which was the 12. The price isn't bad for what you get. I agree with the people who say the window kits aren't that great but I installed a dryer vent in the wall for the 12 and now don't need to worry about rain or critters getting in.... there is a guard on it that keeps them out when the unit shuts down occasionally as it goes thru the cycles. Even if they did manage to get in the heat would drive em back out when it kicks back on. I do run the 14 through a window and the kit can be a bit testy when you move the unit to clean around it or whatever the reason for moving it. But it isn't that hard to put it back together and get the hot air going back outside. As for the unit needing to be emptied of the condensation (water).... It sends the water into the area that the hot air is in that goes out the vent pipe. This dries it up and sends it out through the exhaust pipe that goes in the window. You can use the hose that they give you with the unit to drain the top plug and it will put out about a 5 gal. pail a day. It comes out quite slowly but constantly. But you don't have to do that as it will dry up that water and send it out that exhaust. I saw where someone asked about whether or not you need to use the exhaust pipe and... yes you do need that to send the hot air out of the room you are trying to cool so you will definitely have to find a way to vent that hot air outside. It would make the room hotter if you don't vent that heat. And yes the pipe does get hot but the heat that is put out by the pipe isn't that much. The dryer vent I used works great. You need to adapt from the 5" hose that comes with the unit to 4" dryer vent. That is the only thing that makes this transition a little tricky... just pick up a reducer a the Depot... ya know the big orange place... Just hook the reducer to the dryer vent pipe inside your house and hook up the pipe that comes off the back of the unit. Kinda ugly but if you put it right behind the unit it hides pretty good. If you keep the unit close to the dryer vent you not only hide the whole exhaust system but also have way less pipe getting hot in the house. I also wrapped the metal reducer with insulation and it doesn't send the heat into the room like before I did that. I guess wrapping the pipe with insulation would help too... haven't done that one yet. Overall I would say that if your options are slim and none, this is pretty good for the money. Not lifting window units in and out is nice but these units do take up more real estate in your room. Worth it for reducing the heat on those hot, sticky days if you ask me. As stated they do a great job taking the humidity out of the house so that alone is worth half the price of these units.

    Works Perfectly...Fits in a 46.5" Window

    Customer review by Bargainshopper3078

Owned for 1 Month and used daily. After researching for about 3 weeks, we finally decided on this Keystone KSTAP14A due to its good performance reviews. As an added bonus, it was the best priced unit for the BTUs offered. I don't know why they advertise 14,000 when it is actually 13,500. Regardless, it works great!!! Walmart's shipping cost was only $.97 and the extended warranty was only $44 for 3 years. I was pleasantly surprised when I received a tracking number by email that evening and the unit arrived within a few days by FedEx, even though upon purchase the quoted ETA was over 2 weeks. Soooo...Great job Walmart!!!! :-) Portable A/C units don't seem to work as efficiently as the regular window units. But since we are in a subdivision with a strict HOA our options were limited. (I literally can not even tell that it is in the window from across the street.) We were concerned that this high BTU unit might be overkill for the SF that it is cooling. We have not found this to be the case since it gets so hot in the MBR and Bath. I am soooo glad that we opted for this larger unit. It cools the area down quickly, so we don't have to leave it running all day. Set up was a very simple process!!! Before purchase, I was concerned about the dimensions of the window attachment since my window is a 46.5" side slider. The included attachment is more than sufficient for that height with extra length if needed. We didn't have to cut it, since a sizing clip was included with the ADJUSTABLE window insert. Also, other reviewers stated that the exhaust hose would not stay attached to the unit. That has NOT been an issue if you "screw" the hose ribs into the threads of the 2 included attachments for the back of the A/C and the window exhaust nozzle. The company must have improved the design due to excessive complaints from former purchasers. This A/C is used in a large West facing upstairs MBR/Bath combination. The downstairs in our house would be 70F and the MBR/Bath would be 86F (it wasn't even summer at that time). The first day we hooked it up, it was 86F in the bedroom around 6PM, within one hour it had already dropped to 76F. By bedtime it was about 65F in the bedroom. Ahhhhh!!!! We have checked the exhaust condensation plug several times and there has never been a drop of water. So, this auto feature works flawlessly. Of course, the humidity in Denver is low compared to other areas of the US. (Per other reviewers recommendations, we did elevate the A/C and place a bucket under it...just in case) Remote: The Follow Me feature is fantastic as a remote thermostat. (But make sure that it is pointed at the A/C or it will not be able to send the signal to the A/C) Some of the buttons on the remote are slightly illuminated so it is easy to find in the dark and make adjustments. Additionally, the LCD display on the remote lights up when you push any button, so it is easy to adjust when it gets too cold in the room at night. As far as I have been able to tell, you can make all of the adjustments by the remote that you can by the controls on the actual unit. I plugged this into my regular 110 outlet. I checked the breaker before purchasing it and it is a 15AMP breaker. As far as I know, the 50" large screen TV and cable box are running off of the same breaker and we have never had the breaker trip. Last night there was a storm with a short power outage. The A/C did restart where I had previously set it. The noise level of this unit is comparable to a hotel wall A/C. So, depending where you place it in the room is going to determine how loud it sounds. For some reason the compressor shuts off and on more frequently when the unit is just set to COOL. But, it seems to run more smoothly when it is set on AUTO. I do recommend reading the 2 short instruction booklets before operating this unit. Otherwise some of the features might be difficult to set up (for example the auto on/off feature). All in all, we are VERY pleased with this Keystone KSTAP14A unit and the whole purchase process from Walmart.
