Taking the precautions I have listed, my cat weighs 7.6 lbs and, so far, I have had no problems, but only had it about 2 weeks.

It specifies that on the description.  Our little guy is only a kitten and weighs 7 lbs.

The Kitty Sill includes both velcro and screws, you may attach it using either method.

There are 2 strips of velcro, but it worried me that in the long haul it would not be sturdy enough.  I was sorry we even tried them because when we removed them to screw it down, the velcro damaged the finish on the windowsill.  Just go straight for screwing it down.  There are 3 screws included that go do through the top.  Plenty strong enough.

Are the brackets sold separately? Mine arrived and is only the flat part, no brackets at all.

This is a nice cat perch for your cats favorite window. Its super soft and has a nice cushion, which you can wash. Was easy to hang. I used the screws , but you can also velcro it, and the materials are included.

It's really simple to put together.  I didn't want to use screws to mount it so I used the velcro that is included, along with 2 of the large velcro-like Command strips and it holds my giant cat like a charm.  I don't know why the other review was complaining about it being hard to adjust- the legs snap in and out of position.  Just make sure to line it up the way it will fit on your window sill before you put the adhesive or mounting hardware on.

Great for big, heavy cats!

I was very pleased with this kitty perch.  I started out with the velcro but then as soon as we leaned on it, it came loose so we ended up screwing it to the windowsill but at least the brackets underneath supported themselves and didn't involve attaching them to the wall.  Nice and furry, our little guy loves it!
