Izuna 2: The Unemployed Ninja Returns (DS) 3.7 5 1 3
1,000,000 monsters attack!!! I will admit, the only reason I got this game was because I'm an anime fanatic. That being said, I wasn't prepared for what the game had in store. By the way, this has nothing to do with anime, but it does have it's second-grade humor about Shizune's bust size and breaking the fourth barrier (saying that they have viewers or reffering to the first game within the game), which some anime series do tend to do.The game basically plays out much like the infamous Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series, whereas it is a turn-based dungeon crawler with a bit of a storyline. The baddies, whom you will become familiar and annoyed with, do not move until you make your move. There are plenty of items that have various effects, along with weapons of all kinds. In fact, I was very surprised on how many items there were. You have a very cute girl for your main character, and along the way you meet more people to join you, which was great... at first glance. The major problem I have with this game is that when you do recieve the extra characters, they all begin at Lv.1! By now, your main characters will probably be at Lv.22, meaning you have to spend more time to train the newbies, on top of the time it took you to beat the first couple of dungeons in the first place! Another con is that this game doesn't utilize any of the DS's abilities, playing just like a normal handheld game. There is a point where you have the "option" to use the microphone, but I won't spoil it...And if you are still thinking about getting this game, I must warn you. You will die... a lot. In fact, you could lose anywhere from 10 to maybe 20 times or even more just trying to get through one dungeon, only to be one floor from the boss! Most dungeons are only 20 floors, but one of the extras is 99 (haven't gotten there yet!).So if you want an RPG or and Action game where you can defeat the enemies quite easily, or a typical Final Fantasy where you have multiple super abilities that obliverate any monster you oppose... then this game isn't for you. Through the lifespan of this game you will be confronted with a dozen or more monsters surrounding you, and no amount of "skill" can get you through it. I've found that this is a game of luck and nothing else.I would only recommend this game for hard-core gamers whom will stop at nothing to beat the game, and fans of the old-school dungeon crawlers will probably like this as well. (And no, you do not have to play the first one to get the story in this one.) 01/26/2009
