    About this item

You can enjoy a clean and comfortable pool using the Intex Krystal Clear saltwater pool filtration system. This easy to maintain saltwater filter is compact and efficient in generating clear pool water. The Intex filter replaces hazardous chlorine with inexpensive, natural salts as it cleans.

Intex Krystal Clear Saltwater Pool Filter:

    • Poll filter produces a level of swimmer-safe chlorine when non-iodized pool salt is added
    • Pool filter requires a flow rate of 700-4,000 GPH
    • Pump sold separately

This pool filter is specifically designed for use with above-ground pools. It can destroy bacteria, oxidize bather organics, and control algae in order to make your swimming pool safe, clean, and comfortable.

Works great with just a little bit of maintenance

    Customer review by rrazmattan

I purchased this system a few years ago and it works very well. It basically takes the salt in the water and converts it to chlorine. The cool part is, it just does it - no carting chemicals around. For several years I dealt with chlorine tablets, shock, etc and once the pool got a little out of balance and started turning green (like when we went on vacation) I spent the rest of the summer adding more expensive chemicals. This system works so well that when we came back from a week-long vacation the system indicated I needed to add a little salt and that's it - the water still looked great. One helpful hint: add a stabilizer which makes the chlorine the system produces last longer. Another tip, you may need to clean the plates from time to time - we had calcium buildup on ours. Still, far less maintenance than a standard chlorine pool. A couple of things other people have asked me about on other review sites: Q - Can it be used with my pool? A - If you own an Intex above ground pool then probably yes. Others - I have no idea. Q - What kind of Salt does it need? I used pool salt I picked up at Lowes. You can use any type of salt such as water softener pellets but the pool salt is smaller granules and dissolves quickly. You'll need a lot to start with (see the instructions that come with the unit - I needed three bags) but for the rest of the year I only need one or two bags. Q - Would you buy it again? A - Absolutely. And if mine breaks, I'll go buy another one. It is so much easier than a chemical system. I'll never go back. Q - what don't you like about it? A - Earlier models (which mine is) lost their settings if the power went out. Fortunately that didn't happen often but was a bit of a pain when it did. I'm not sure if that is corrected in the latest model or not. Q - Does the water taste salty A - No, that's the really weird part. You don't taste it, you don't smell the chlorine yet the water is crystal clear. The amount of salt used is the minimum to make the system work which is way less than ocean salt water. Q - Why not give it a 5-Star rating? A - Because it does require some effort on my part to keep it running. Some things like my iPad just work, no maintenance required. This system will need about 10 minutes of your time once a week and 30 minutes every two months. But if you can tolerate putting just a little bit of time in you'll be very happy with it.

I have had a saltwater system now for 4 years and have NEVER added any other chemical into my pool except for the 1 time of the 60ish pounds of salt annually. BUY this system!!! it will pay for itself in 1 summer. My parents had a pool growing up and I always said i would NEVER own a pool simply because of the maintenance involved. i'm eating my words now, because i LOVE my pool, and hardly ever perform any maintenance of any kind on it other than changing a filter cartridge and skimming a few bugs every once and a while. My water stays CRYSTAL CLEAR all summer long without any need for additional chemicals :) LOVE IT! go to walmart.. add the price of 12 weeks worth of chemicals and maintenance, and then compare to the price of the saltwater system. do the math.. then buy it! simple!

I have had this system for a month now. It is well worth it although I had some trouble hooking it up because it is specially designed for Intex pools and I had to go to Home Depo for a small pvc part to slip inside adapter B part with extra hose kit from Wal-mart for about $12. It took an extra couple of days, but I've found this system to be exactly what it claims to be. The water is clean and clear and I don't notice the salt at all. The box said to use a different amount of salt than the instruction manual; however, I only used 80 pounds of salt(2) 40 pound bags from Wal-Mart for around $5.97 per bag and it is fine. I am using a 15 ft by 3 and half feet deep (My Sunshine pool). I did add a couple cups extra after the recent rain we had just incase. It hasn't indicated low salt or high salt and the test strips still check out ok. I really like how the system runs so far and would highly recommend everyone getting it. Just make sure you own an Intex pool or have the parts for adapting other pool types handy before you fill the pool and get started.

    • The type of salt you want to use is salt that is 99.8% pure, and it must be non-iodized.

    • There are all types of salt out there but I bought Solar Salt from Lowe's....it is a rock salt but it dissolves very quick. Just make sure to spread the salt evenly in the pool. It costs around $4 per 40 lb bag and my 16x48 pool took 3 bags

    • The book states 310 lb. (8 bags) but since the salt doesn't evaporate and to reduce it you must drain the pool some, we opted to put less in at first. We put in 6 bags and after hooking up the saltwater system everything is fine. The lights are not indicating too much or less salt.

    • 310lbs but I recommend you add under that to begin with as you can easily add salt if you need more, but you have to drain a lot of water to remove it if you add to much. We live in a very hot area and suffer from water evaporation and as salt doesn't evaporate we can get a high salt alarm and automatic system shutdown if we don't top up with fresh water

    • I have been reading all these reviews, and am in waiting for my brand new 24 ft above Intex Metal Frame above ground pool. So, I am studying about it before it arrives, which will be in about nine more days. But, I read many questions referring to 27 ft above ground pools, and they say it works great for them, and it does a great job chlorinating their pools. Also, in the manual it states that the salt filter works with the 32' x 18' x 52" rectangular pools..also it can filter up to 14,350 gallons of water per pool. Hope this helps!
