the other stuff is so weak it does not even claim "USP tincture" on the bottle.

just get the real thing, Povidone Iodine is what Dr.'s use and every "general practitioner" keeps some laying around the office

This product is denatured [de-colored] iodine.  The bottle plainly states it contains potassium iodide.

I had trouble deciding whether to buy this based on a lot of the answers on here that say this is not iodine.  But then I looked up the ingredients of the solution commonly called &quot;white iodine&quot; on the internet.  Whether or not a chemist would consider this to be iodine, this ABSOLUTELY IS the stuff called &quot;white iodine&quot; or &quot;decolored iodine&quot;, so if you&#39;re looking for colorless iodine, this IS the item you seek.  Not sure if it&#39;s doing what I want yet, but it smells like it could disinfect just about anything, so I feel very good about it.

Read the label - it plainly states that this product is an iodide tincture [in solution] and contains ammonium and potassium iodides.   It has been denatured [ de-colored] with ammonia

Small amounts may be added to drinking water as a disinfectant. Add about 5 drops to a quart canteen. Shake well and let sit for about 30 minutes before drinking.

to be safe, DON'T use this internally. IT CONTAINS AMMONIUM . So just use potassium iodide instead.

can iodides tincture purify water in survival senerio

I have used this for years as no color, and takes the soreness out of any cut, hangnail, etc.

I like it as it is colorless and sure does help.

If you need to use iodine, this doesn't discolor the skin.

Great Iodine

Old fashioned, but works great! And this Decolorized version does not stain your skin. And does not "burn" like the old ones.  Try to buy at the Walmart STORE. Shipping charge is expensive.

Some people feel that it is watered down with Alcohol, but it has worked well for me in burning out warts on the back of my neck over the last six years. Sometimes it takes three months, 3 apps a day, I do not feel that regular Iodine will do any better. On your hands where you can burn with a magnifying glass, it could take 10 apps in one day to remove warts.

I appreciate this Iodine Tincture

I was happy to find this since alcohol is still very scarce.  I dilute it with water, store in a spray bottle and use freely.  The iodine smell is obvious but without the brown color - it's clear.

Good to have on hand

Reasonable priced good disinfectant for small lesions on my face, not likely as strong as dark iodine solutions. I was not able to see contents listed.

Good product

Iodine is a great staple for the first aid cabinet; it aids in fast healing and is good to prevent infection. We got this clear stuff because the color can be inconvenient, but WOW the smell is horrible! VERY strong ammonia smell (which it turns out is a main ingredient in this, it's not pure). It makes my eyes burn if I open it in the bathroom. Seems to work well on wounds, but just be warned.

I know this is a tricky item to ship and I would get instore but our stores haven't had them. The 2 bottles arrived today but one of them was almost empty, it had leaked into the box it was shipped in. I would like a replacement if possible. Full bottles weighes 68g and the leaked bottle weighs 32g. Thank You

Damaged item

I just received this a few hours ago. It was leaking in the box. I see about a good 1/4 of my money went in trash because of leaking. There is no applicator like a brush or suction end to get out the desired amount. There is a stick attached to the top but seems pretty useless and hard to control to put it on the exact area. I hope the actual content works but new packaging is definitely needed for this product.
