Rated 1 out of 5 by owls123 Totally Disappointed This vacuum was incredibly disappointing! I'll start by saying I have a home with hardwood, tile and carpet and was looking for something that could work throughout the house. I originally purchased the Hoover Platinum bagged vacuum that comes with the separate canister. I love that one on the carpet and love the attachments. However it wasn't amazing on the tile and wood because it doesn't have the brush on/off switch. Some stuff (cat litter, pieces of mulch the dogs would drag in) would spit out and not get sucked up. So, I thought this vacuum would be better. Um, wrong. As others have said, it's heavy, but I thought the self-propelled feature would help. It was just awkward! I would push it and it would go about a foot then stop. If I was close to the wall or furniture, it would slam itself against it. Ugh. Annoying. I'm not sure the dirt finder worked because I was going over an area where our dogs sleep that was covered in hair and the light never turned red. With the Platinum model, you go over hair once, and it gets everything. This one I had to go back and forth three or more times. Then I got to the wood...yikes. the brush on/off switch is so inconvenient, and I had to turn the vacuum off to get it to move. Then I noticed it was leaving giant scuff marks everywhere! So I turned it off and raised the brush height which helped, but then it wouldn't suck anything up. Sigh. Also, the hose wouldn't stay attached, so every few minutes I would have to bend over and shove it back in. What a hassle this thing was! Fortunately, I hadn't returned the Platinum yet, so I'm going to just keep it. I didn't realize how awesome it was until I had this piece of junk to compare! I have no idea how this thing rated so well on Consumer Reports. 01/26/2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by anwyyn It's a Hoover ... I'm a disabled (physically challenged, whatever!) woman who still needs to clean house (two shedding feline monster masters run this household!) unless I want to pick up the phone and have someone do it for me. So ... I require a self-propelled vacuum. Hoover wasn't my first choice in brand/flavor names, but I've owned them before and they're reliable enough to get the job done for as long as they last. I haven't owned this one for long ... just long enough to have run it through the house a couple of times. While turned off, this vacuum is heavy (for me) to carry by its carry-handle, so I find it much easier to maneuver it by tilting it onto its wheels and pulling or pushing it. While turned on, it's a dream to handle, very easy to push, pull and maneuver in its self-propelled mode. The one thing so far that I've been bothered by is its supposed 'edge cleaners' which really don't do a great job cleaning edges. I've also noticed little difference between cleaning with it set on high, medium or low carpet levels (so I use the 'low' setting). :/ I have yet to use any of its onboard attachments so can't comment on them. Otherwise, a decent little machine for the money (besides being seemingly the only vacuum which comes in 'self-propelled' anymore!! ;p). 09/15/2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by JaxSax Better than ever Replaced aging WindTunnel with this newer deluxe model. Pretty much the same as the old unit. This one seems much quieter and the clean/dirty lights actually work as advertised. Have been using for about 3 weeks and it is a wonderful unit. Consumer Reports ranks Hoover very highly and has so for many years. You can't go wrong with this unit and the Walmart price is right! 09/10/2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by erikaav Hoover WindTunnel The power of this vacuum is extraordinary! For cleaning power, it gets 5 stars. The rotary brush attachment for cleaning carpeted stairs works beautifully. I love that the rotary sweeper can be turned off to clean floors and bathroom rugs. The self propel feature and headlight are awesome. Since it has a Hepa filter and Hepa bag, no dust or smells get recast into the air--as they did with my older Hoover.Three things keep this vacuum from getting 5 stars all the way across: 1) It's extremely loud. Earplugs are a must! 2) The hose for the attachments is too short and you have to buy a longer one in order to clean an entire flight of stairs without dragging the vacuum up 3 or 4 stairs at a time. The 20' extension hose, while too long to stay on the vacuum for regular vacuuming, should be included with the unit so that it can be switched out as needed. 3) The electrical cord covering is quite thin and can be damaged easily, especially if you happen to go over it with the vacuum.Overall, I'm very happy with the Windtunnel's performance and value! 11/10/2010
