I have had both the Bissel 2x heat clean and this Hoover model. Just want anyone who is on the fence to know that the Hoover works better on high traffic areas and is sooo much easier to empty/fill and clean (the machine) than the Bissell. I would reccomend this anyday.

Rated 5 out of 5 by LuvTheCleanHouse Easy, User Friendly and does the job
We already had a Bissell Spot Bot which you would think would be ideal for small cleanups. However, that isn’t always the case. We were so tired of seeing rings all over our carpet and having to run it over the same spot two to three times (6-8 minute cycles each) that we decided to give the Hoover a try.
After the first time, my husband commented that the carpet looks like it was just professional cleaned! Why pay someone else to do it when you can pay for the Hoover after just one time. We are really satisfied.
The only con: you sometimes have to run over a heavily soiled spot a few times on the wash cycle before the spot disappears. I sometimes just leave the brushes moving over the affected area to make sure it is getting where I need it.
All-in-all this is a GREAT product and worth every penny.

Rated 5 out of 5 by WildThinker1000 Best Home Carpet Cleaner Yet So Far...
I have a dog and I have other pets that come in and out on a daily basis plus 2 roommates so after about a week my carpets get really dirty from the dirt thats tracked in and out that my vacume cant completely pick up. I've owned other carpet cleaners in the past but the Hoover SteamVac Dual V has exceaded all of them in getting the job done.
A great feature I love about this model is that there are no belts to worry about haveing to replace at all as opposed to other models that you end up having to take apart and replace every so often. It's also extremely user friendly and exremely easy to maintain. Theres two solid containers, one with two compartments for the water and solution and the other for waste water to go into, and there's absolutely no bladder to worry about at all. Also when it comes time to empty out the waste water, simply dump it down the drain, give it a good quick rinse, and you're ready to right back to work.
For People looking for a good Carpet Cleaner for their money, I would highly recomend the Hoover SteamVac Dual V as you will not be disappointed with its performance I assure you.

I had a Bissell Shampooer for 4 years and it worked okay but kept having a part on the motor go out. After three times I decided to get the Hoover. So far, I love it and hope it is as good in the future with no parts to replace for awhile. It cleans very well on old stains and new ones. I would recommend this to others.

Rated 5 out of 5 by GladiosGladios This shampooer is awesome
I couldn't believe it could clean my Egyptian rugs that nicely, but it did.
The "rinse only" functions is really handy. I use it to loosen the dirt first, then use the regular "wash" setting. Gets me better results this way. The very first time was the hardest and the longest to take out all the stains. Now I use regularly and it takes out all dirt without much effort.
Liked:
- Rinse only option,
- Ability to take apart suction cover and brushes for thorough cleaning in the sink
- Powered spin scrub hand tool brush. It does clean the stairs when used correctly. Spray the stairs at a level 3" high from the step and you'll get it to work for you.
- Gets the rugs/carpets really dry if you use 3-4 dry strokes AFTER you're done cleaning the whole area. So rugged/carpeted areas are ready to be walked on almost instantly
- Control: You decide when you want to dispense the water/detergent solution or not. It's not fully automated based on stroke direction as is the case in other shampooers
- Automatic water/detergent mixing - no need for measuring cups.
- Value: It's very close to high-end shampooers in effectiveness without the price sting and the extra, usually not-needed, features.
Didn't like:
* Iffy clean water tank. If you're not VERY careful putting it in place, it will bounce off and fall on the floor. I almost broke it the very first time I was installing it. Sometime it will just jump out of place anyway if you're maneuvering the machine using the "carry pouch" err handle!! just above it
* Small size water tanks (1 gal each). But this is maybe because I have large areas covered with rugs and carpet
* No heating element. If you're not quick, the water will get cold before you're done
* Leaks water and detergent (minor) at the base of the clean water/detergent tank, where the release valves for these 2 fluids compartments are in contact with the rest of the machine's tubings.
* short electric cord
Parting thought
I've used many shampooers, and this is a very decent one. Thing is, cleaning-wise, your detergent is really what matters. Use good high quality ones appropriate for your carpet/rug needs. The shampooer really matters in regards to features (like spin scrub brushes and rinse only function in this model), durability/sturdiness, suction power (which is the most important), and suction path width (the wider the faster you're done).
Hope this helps someone make up their mind

Rated 1 out of 5 by peskyfeller A very sorry machine
I have been a big fan of Hoover Steamvac machines based on the F5914-900. The reason I bought this new F7412900 was because the old machine was worn out. I thought the newer model would be better and the store no longer stocks the old model.
This new model is nowhere near the quality of the older machine. The tanks are very flimsy and this thing leaks like crazy. The water tank valve on the bottom sticks open when you fill the tank letting water pour out all over the floor. The tank is secured by pulling up on the carrying handle. It doesn't lock well and the tank will fall off the machine.
The dirty water tank has a flimsy handle that also is suppose to hold the top on. It is spring loaded but the springs are anchored to brittle plastic. It broke the first time I tried to empty the tank.
The hose with the furniture brush leaks badly spraying solution when you don't want it to. In addition they changed from the two rotating brushes used on the 5914 model to a single rotating brush that barely turns.
The new machine is pretty but that's about it. It is made of thin brittle plastic. It has a "removable hose caddy". What they don't tell you is the thing has to be removed because it falls off!
I returned the machine after one miserable day of trying to use it.
If you want a good machine get the model F5914. It is much better.

This was a good cleaner except that when you use the hand brush there is dirty water that comes out of the bottom of the floor brush. I put a piece of cardboard under it. Also, it leaks where you wind the cord up at the bottom. It did dry the carpets very fast. I just am upset because it leaks when you tilt handle back when shampooing carpets.

The first time I purchased this item the water reservoir handle broke and in rinse mode it continued to dispense soap. I returned it thinking I just got a lemon, wrong!!! I purchased another one, the trigger mechanism on the hose split half and detached within first 5 minutes of use. I had to finish the job I started so I continued on, once again in rinse mode, soap continued to dispense. So dissapointed, all the good reviews out there, this one is going back. I dont think people are noticing the soap continues to dispense in rinse mode, people your are paying for this soap you are waisting and leaving residue which can irritate you. This apparently is a desgin flaw that Hoover needs to correct.

Rated 5 out of 5 by cleaninglady108 Cleanest, dryest carpets I've ever had!
I LOVE this machine! I have cleaned many carpets with many machines. However, this one SUCKS so much better than any other machine! It makes sense. If you put water into a stinky, dirty carpet, you need to get as much of the dirty, stinky water out as possible! I was AMAZED at how much dirt and sand came out of the carpet!
The machine is easy to operate, easy to clean. I recently rented a rug doctor. What a waste of time! Half the time is wasted with rug doctor because it only cleans one direction. Then, the cleaning bar only goes one direction. And it really doesn't suck the water out that well. With this Hoover Max Extractor, every movement is cleaning and really sucking the water out.....and with it all the deep rooted dirt, sand, stains, and odor! The 6 cleaning heads clean in all direction loosen it.
When I finished, the carpet was clean and fresh, the fibers looked refreshed, and the carpet was nearly dry.

The first carpet I cleaned, it worked like magic. Clean results and everything. Then I tried upholstery, half way thru, the water started leaking from under the unit. So I gave it another try on a different carpet. As soon as I finished cleaning it, I moved the cleaner from the carpet to hardwood floor and noticed water leaking again. Let me just say, when I say leaking I dont mean a few drops, I had to get an old tshirt to mop up and it was soaked...and still had some water left on the floor. Returning this week

Rated 5 out of 5 by aTarHeelGirl Extremely Satisfied with Purchase
As always, Walmart delivered on time. All parts were included, free of defects, and assembly was a breeze. Operating the machine was also easy, and it did an excellent job cleaning my carpets, much better than the last professionals that did it. Like some other owners have stated, it is a little heavy to operate when the tanks are full, and drying time is minimal, only a couple of hours if you take the time to do a few extra dry passes. Cleaning the machine is also easy. I did get a Dyson DC33 at the same time and after I cleaned the carpets, I decided to vacuum with my brand new Dyson before replacing all the furniture. There was nothing in the canister, so I sprinkled powder on the carpet to make sure the vacuum worked--it did, perfectly, but that will be a separate review. I just had to add that to show how well this carpet cleaner worked. I definitely recommend this product without any reservations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by DaniDaGirl Fantastico!!!
My boyfriend and I used an older model of this carpet cleaner (very old) to clean the carpets of our new house. It worked well but the scrub brushes were loose and it leaked. Our carpets weren't "like new" clean so I wanted a new cleaner and after reading tons of reviews I found that Hoover had top scores for carpet cleaners. This machine exceeded my expectations. I'm a teacher and during spring break I cleaned my carpets almost everyday to get some of the (what I thought permanent) stains out of the carpets. I used an allergen/everyday use cleaner in the machine and pre-treated with an oxy type cleaner. It was fantastic. Dried paint started coming out of the carpets and the more I used it, the more came out. My carpets dried almost instantly because of the heat from the machine. When using the attachment for stairs I prefer the regular scrub brush over the rotating bristle head - it didn't seem to do much. Once I switched to the regular scrub brush I was on a roll and my stairs looked great. There's no heat coming from the attachments so expect the stairs to stay wet longer - I used a fan to ensure they dried well. The only reason I gave 4 stars for durability is because the piece that attaches to the back to hold the hose is clunky and falls off easily. I just left it in the closet and I'll get the hose when I need it. Totally worth the money!

Rated 3 out of 5 by cleaningwoman1 This machine cleans carpets VERY well! It works as well as a professional machine. However, during its first use, the handle to the dirty water tank began to malfunction and broke. This is an important piece, as it keeps the top down on the tank. Both plastic tanks on the machine are very thin plastic. I doubt they would hold up very long unless you are VERY careful with your machine.

Rated 4 out of 5 by rcw198 Good Product - Easy to Use
So far this appears to be a very good product. It did an excellent job of cleaning my carpets. So good that I was appalled at the amount of dirt that it extracted from my carpeting. Not sure how it will hold up over time as it came with one minor piece broken. However a quick call to their support line and I received that piece a few days later with no questions asked. Not sure why they call it a steam vac as in reality you are shooting hot soapy water into your carpet, not steam. A nice feature is that you can choose on the fly to use soapy water or plain water to rinse. I am happy with this product and would recommend it so far to friends. I would not however lend it out too often as I think that an item of this type has a life span that is effected by the number of uses. Use it yourself, clean it well when done and I suspect that you will get more than your money's worth out of it.

I love, love, love this carpet cleaner! It does a fantastic job cleaning my gnarly carpets and it's water removal is amazing! Within an hour of cleaning the carpets, they were virtually dry(insert Shaw-Wow guys' voice here)....the tools are great. They make cleaning stairs a breeze. I really shopped around and read the reviews about more carpet cleaners than I can remember, and I'm glad I chose this one.

I bought this about 6 months ago to replace a hoover my inlaws gave me that was just too old and finally gave out. I was extremely impressed at first. After a few uses (not long w/4 dogs and 2 kids plus a husband that works outdoors) I noticed dripping from the back. The seals for the fresh water tank was leaking. Hubby took care of it so we thought but before long it did it again and nothing would fix it. Today I was using it and noticed the brushes weren't spinning. The little plastic pieces in the bottom broke that spins the brushes. The leaking got worse and I found myself having to go over the carpet again where i started and stopped to get excess water. Now I have to spend more money on another machine. I was very disappointed especially when it replaced a model at least 10 years old that worked great in 2 houses w/a lot of animals and kids.

I was very disappointed. I returned it the very next day after using it only once for about 4 hours. I had a hoover steamvac about 10 yrs ago that served me well. This one, however, worked well for the first 3 hours or so, then it started leaking clean water solution on every forward stroke. I tried removing and replacing both tanks, reading the instructiin manual again-no help. The packaging included that note that says "please don't return to store, call us instead" but when the troubleshooting guide didn't say anything about what to do if it leaks, i figured it must be a defect AND it was the weekend so i didn't want to wait until Monday to talk to someone. I had read the product reviews before buying but none said anything about leakage.

Rated 3 out of 5 by babykyle Cleans the carpet but not fantastic
This is the 3rd cleaner I have owned in 3 years. It is a nice machine and it will clean your carpet but it is not a great stain remover. I have had cleaners in the past that would get up a stain without me pretreating but this one will not. You can tell by the water that you empty it is cleaning but you can keep going over a stain with it and it will not come up if it is set in. Other cleaners I have had broke in places that made them unable to be used. This one seems to be made well. If you are looking to clean your carpets this will work but if you are looking for the "wow" factor this one isn't it.

I ordered the cleaner after great deliberations on which to buy. I went on the basis that my mother owned a hoover and it lasted forever. I was sceptical that it would clean all the ink and toner stains (press ink) or even bring up 1/2 the dirt it did. Worked like a dream, used the hand tool and stains came out almost totally. My only complaint is that it needs to be changed often but that is what keeps it light so good enough for me

Rated 3 out of 5 by gotpets Cleans carpets, but disappointed in cheap plastic
I purchased this product after reading all of the reviews about the flimsy plastic parts however; I am very careful, so I ordered one anyway. First, let me say that this machine cleaned my very light carpet very nice and it dried in no time flat. I am also a pet owner and it had been about 2+ years since my carpet was professionally cleaned, so my carpets did need a good cleaning.
I do like the feature that there are 2 tanks (one for clean water and one for dirty water) however; the plastic part that holds the clean water tank is so thin and cheap, it broke just after filling the clean water tank 2 times. Needless to say, a very small portion of my living room carpet got cleaned. I was disappointed because the machine cleans well, but you certainly can not fill up the clean water tank.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Sarahinlove WOW It WORKED!
I have not had this product for more than a day but I am amazed at what it did to my living room floor. We usually pay to have the house professionally cleaned twice a year which is about $600-800 per year. This thing made my living room look just like it was professionally cleaned. I have a large Rottweiler and he makes lots of messes-in addition to 3 kids. They ALL destroy our cream carpet and I am so excited to have a machine that I can whip out whenever I need to.
I don't know about the durability yet since I have not owned it very long, BUT it does work and I am impressed.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Richjude Not nearly as good as my last Hoover
My last Hoover carpet steam cleaner was a whole lot better. This does not have the auto wash and rinse combined. It has wash and separately has the rinse. Takes so much longer and quite an inconvenience. The rinse also, doesn't seem to rinse at all. If it wasn't so much trouble, I would send it back and look around to try and find my old Model.
I am sorry I ever purchased this model.

Rated 1 out of 5 by askagain Lasted for 3 1/2 rooms before it started leaking.
The machine did a beautiful job on 3 1/2 rooms of carpet before it started leaking all over the floor. After 100 years in business, a company such as Hoover should be able to produce a reliable and trouble free product. Not only did the machine start leaking, the brush on the handheld stair and upholstery accessory barley turned. The customer service representative told me that if the brush turns at all it must be ok. Finally, after repeating three times that there is a problem with the brush, she told me to either drive twenty miles to a repair center or return the machine to the store. When I asked her to send me a replacement part, she said "we can't take your word for it." That wasn't music to the ears. After just one day of use, we returned the machine to the store. It looks like we will rent a machine to finish our carpets. Would my wife and I recommend this machine? The answer is a resounding "NO."

Rated 5 out of 5 by Starg8t Well worth the money spent to buy this machine
You won't go wrong buying this machine. It is durable, and it cleans carpets very well. Not only that, but it also leaves them nearly dry right after cleaning them. It pulls a lot of soil from the carpet with very little effort. It is VERY easy to fill, clean and use. If you are looking for an honest opinion without any hype, this review is it. I am very picky about the products I purchase. I look for quality at the best price. This product exceeded my expectations in performance and the price is reasonable, in my opinion. I am telling you the way it is. You make up your own mind from here.

Rated 5 out of 5 by DashleyGirl It helped when in trouble.
Okay. I love the dual containers - one for cleaner and one for water. The separation is great. So, I had another one and stopped using it because it was not convenient. I would have to combine the cleaner and water. But when I wanted just to rinse the carpet afterward I would have to dump out all the cleaner in there. Thus, I stopped using because the cleaner is not cheap.
So, I bought this one and love it. I cleaned my carpets twice in the first day. Then my children's rooms where the dogs have been. Last we had a flood in our basement and the extractor part came in so great. We were able to save the carpets. IT WORK WONDERFUL. I was happy that we had bought this one just before the flood happened. Eight buckets of removed water later it was working like a charm in the damaged room. I know people asked me why we did not use our shopvac for the problem. I told them that was being used outside to keep the water from continuing to come in the house. So, we had the shopvac outside and the Hoover inside. It was perfect.
Also, it cleaned up dog smell and dirt that the other cleaner could not. I am going to use it again and again. I am so confident in it.
I had a Hoover Dual before and went away from it because of reviews on the other cleaner. But within a year came back to this style and will never use another style that does not have the dual abilities again.
I would recommend this to everyone that needed one.

Rated 2 out of 5 by JohnstonIslandSoldier Bought this as my two small toy breeds don't always make it fully onto their pads. Previously used a Bissell ProPet which works very good, other than I have to use it while kneeling on the carpet. My carpet is less than 10 months old and so the nap is still tight and thick. The brushes do not do a good job of getting into my carpet. The rotating brushes tend to just ride on top of the carpet instead of getting down into it. You would think with this unit since it weighs so much that it would do a better job. It does a decent job at sucking up the water and it seemed to clean the top surface of the carpet. This might be wonderful for low nap or hard surfaces. I returned this the day after my first use.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Busy01 I used this steamvac only twice and already have problems with the brushes not spinning. It was a great machine for the first use. It cleaned my carpets very easily and it dried within 1/2 hour. The second time, though, the brushes were spinning very slow and not cleaning the carpet. I will not purchase this model again. I used the lower priced Hoover carpet steamer and liked it so well that I assumed this newer model would be better. Read all reviews before purchasing - the brushes seem to be a popular problem.

My carpets had spots on them that no stain remover could phase. After I used the Hoover, the stains were all gone. There were small grease spots and cat food spots over where my cat eats his food, and the heavy traffic areas were dirty. I thought the stains were permanent. Nope, they are all gone and the carpet looks great! The only con is the hose set up. I took it off completely and the vac is MUCH easier to use. I recommend taking the hose rack and the hose, wrapping them up together and hanging it in the closet until you need to use it. It's just awkward to keep it on the steamvac.
