No it does not. The electric start model is 6037.

We have and older version of this unit.  Ours is the 5500E/L, which does have electric start.  We bought it in 2008, and has been a great unit, but, just like any motor that uses the Honda carb, you must turn off the gas, and run it until it dies.  This keeps fuel out of the carb, which can gum up the jets when it is stored.

It has been my experience to not use this unit while it is sitting out in the rain. I would and have provided some type of cover for the unit when using in the rain or storing in a rainy location.

Is this Honeywell model 6036 water proof and can it be left out in the rain while operating?

I bought one of these for Hurricane Gustav in August of 2008. It ran flawlessly for the four days our power was out. I ran the gas out of it and stored it. This week I pulled it out of storage for Hurricane Isaac. I put fresh gasoline in it and it cranked on the first pull. We only needed it for about twelve hours this time. We ran a 10,000 BTU window unit, a refrigerator, a fan, and a couple of lights and we could run it for nine hours on a tank of gasoline.

This generator has a Generac engine, which are becoming ubiquitous. It started right up on the first pull. Good sturdy ergonomic design.

As luck would have it, due to a power outage in my area 10 days after I purchased this generator, I HAD TO PUT IT TO THE TEST! And it performed beyond my expectations. It started on the first pull of the cord and ran perfectly. Yes, I had run it when I first received it to make sure all was well. Very simple to operate. Due to the power outage and with the use of several long extension cords, I was able to run my refrigerator, my 19 cu. ft. upright freezer and my neighbor's refrigerator with no problem at all for the unit. It just kept on running. I added two table lamps and even ran the T.V. cable box and the T.V. all at the same time with the appliances I mentioned. I am more than satisfied with this product. After the outage, my neighbor was so impressed, he went and purchased the exact same generator as I had. This is an excellant buy. I was so impressed that I went and bought one more, for my son and his family. This is earthquake country and you just never know! When I received the unit I cut the box open at the bottom and now use the box to keep the unit covered.
