I bought this kitty house with the intention to house a litter box for my cats. The house is well constructed and was super easy to put together. The finish is very nice and goes well with my office furniture. It is not cheap looking and there weren't any blemishes. I bought this in the store for $46. Using it as a litter box house didn't work for me though. I have a neurologic cat (15lb) that has difficulty moving around in a litter box. He needs a huge box (40 gal storage box) in order to not step in his #2 after going. The size of the box is just too small for him to maneuver around but the other cats did well. I instead put a soft furry bed inside. There is always someone or two inside the house. It's positioned under the window, so my cats also take advantage of sitting on top of it to look out the window. My advice is to find a litter box insert with very high sides. If your kitty doesn't squat to go #1, it hits the side of the walls and runs out the floor of the box out the door. It's a very nice product.

I highly recommend this product! Having researched many similar products, the HomeZone Cat Litter house was the best value. I read that others had a hard time finding a pan to fit inside: I went to walmart and purchased a VanNess cat box for about $8 and it works perfectly. The door never opens on its own. I am also impressed with how this product controls smell and litter tracking. All in all it was the perfect solution to the issue of the unsightly cat box in a small apartment.

I just moved into a house, and there really was no good place to put the cat litterbox without having a gross eye sore to everyone that came. In addition to this, our dog was starting to eat from the litter box. I bought this, and was skeptical at first. My cats are pretty chubby, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt because, after moving 8 times I came to realize my cats adapt so well. Well this was no exception. It took me about 40 minutes to put together by myself. The first week or so, just to be safe, I left the front door open so that they knew where the litterbox was. Finally, I shut the hatch and hoped they would use it. My tom cat is about 17 lbs, and my other kitty is about 13. They do just fine in this!!! I am so happy because now, you would have no idea where the litterbox is!!! On top of that, you can't smell it unless you haven't cleaned it in a long time. So I guess the only thing bad about this is that you actually will forget you own a litter box and might forget to clean it. Once one of the cats missed the litterbox ever since I bought this box...and they never have missed the litter box before so either they were just having a bad day or they couldn't position well that time being in it. All in all, I am completely happy with this purchase and am thinking about getting another similar to this, only bigger to put in a different room so I can put their food on top and have 2 boxes. As for the dog eating out of the litterbox, it didn't completely solve it. He would use his paws and reach for the litter. So as a fix I have the front of the door basically facing a wall, so he can't fit in front of it.

The door hole is actually a lot bigger than the picture. I was afraid because my cat is a bit (dare I say overweight) but she is able to get in and out fine. Make sure to get a litterbox that isn;t very high in height (I made that mistake) but it works great! Defintely recommend to future buyers!

I read most of the reviews and wondered if this Litter House would work for my two cats. And after purchasing it and putting it together, the answer is YES!! I was actually surprised by how well it was made for the price. I have compared other Litter Box type covers and for the price this one is excellent! If you can follow simple directions it was pretty easy to put together. It came with all of the parts I needed (except the screwdriver). So after taking about 15 minutes to put together, I sat it on my screened-in porch and my biggest cat (which weighs 24 lbs - yes she is a big ole gal) went right in without any trouble. The opening is wide enough for her, which I was concerned about. Next my shy 20 lbs. Maine Coon male cat ventured in and loved it. Because I have a problem with him sometimes standing to do his business, I am going to get a plastic storage tub, cut out the opening to fit to the opening on the door and put it inside (instead of the traditional litter box). I use these in my litter closet and they work better, and are cheaper than the litter boxes with the tall sides. The house measures, 17 inches x 18 inches and is 18 inches tall (these are the inside dimensions). So finding a plastic storage box this big will not be a problem. I like this Litter House so well, we are thinking about getting a second one in white for another room. My recommendation is this is a product I would buy again and recommend to a friend.

    • A. Other reviewers say their cats kick out litter, but mine doesn't seem to do this. Depends on how messy your cat is to begin with. The hole isn't very high once you factor in a few inches of litter that kitty will be standing on, so if your cat is a kicker, it will get messy. You also can't get a super high sided litter box as it will block the entrance for your cat. I use a PureNess Large Cat Litter Pan from Walmart and it's even with the bottom of the hole. This is a link to the exact pan I bought: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Van-Ness-Large-Cat-Litter-Pan-1ct-Cats/10315195

    • A. It does a good job of controlling the amount of litter that tracks in and out off most litter boxes. I use the pine shaving stuff, notorious for getting everywhere and I am finding this box has greatly reduce the amount of litter being tracked. I would still use a litter mat outside if you want to reduce it even more.

    • A. The back has holes punched into it. But if your cat accidentally dribbles over the side of the litter box and the urine soaks into the wood, you might as well get rid of it. Nothing soaks in deep enough to get rid of the smell. If you line it with puppy pads, though, it catches any loose litter and/or accidental dribbles (you can get puppy pads from any pet store) and makes clean-up easier.
