  • About this item

The Hefty Touch-lid 13.3-Gallon Trash Can is all that you need to manage your household. It is especially helpful when handling the kitchen garbage. With a maximum capacity of up to 50 liters, it does not require everyday removal. Use 13 gallon trash bags to fit the kitchen trash can perfectly. It features a touch button, which on pressing opens up the spring loaded lid for easy access. Featuring a sleek design, this tan-colored garbage trash can won't take much of your kitchen space. It's an easy and effective way to keep garbage and refuse tucked away outdoors, too; simply keep the lid closed and it will help to prevent animals from getting inside. The squared-off design will allow you to slide it into areas that a round can may not fit, providing you with a flexible and useful option for storing trash.

Probably the best kitchen can I've ever owned!

At first I thought it was silly to review a kitchen trash can, but my new Hefty Touch-Lid Wastebasket is probably the best kitchen can I've ever owned. A standard 13-gallon bag fits perfectly inside, snug all the way around, and the lid snaps on top and keeps the bag completely secure. Even better, this can is so well-shaped and large that I'm emptying it 60% less often than my old can, which was a fancy-shmancy stainless steel oval contraption that barely held anything at all. I love this product!

    The perfect kitchen trash can

I would have given it 5 stars, but the trash can came with so many huge stickers all over it that do not just come off. Packing stickers, advertisement stickers and the list goes on. So, it looks kind of messy. Just letting you know before hand. Might be worth going and picking up one that does not have a bunch of stickers all over it.

    Great, but doesn't last.

I purchased this can because I recently had adopted two kittens, and because they got into everything in the house I wanted a trash can that could limit their access to my kitchen garbage. This can works very well for that, is a good size, and it's appearance is good. I was quite satisfied until I had used it approximately 5 months, at which point a small plastic piece broke off the lid. This small cylinder serves as both a pivot point on one side and a spring retainer. It's failure renders the spring loaded lid useless, and now I have to manually raise the lid with one hand while unlatching it with the other. I emailed Hefty Products and received no response. I'm completely dissatisfied with this products short lifespan, and won't purchase another Hefty can. Save your money and buy products that will last.

My 15-month old is obsessed with our swinging lid trash can and won't keep his hands (or arms) out of it. I need a new can badly. Does anyone recommend this trash can if you have kids around? How easy is it to open? And given the design, do you think that it would be more difficult to keep his hands out?? thx!

    • Yes, the led has a bracket sort off that you push in order to open the lid, now he might learn to push the little bracket, but if you have a specific place wherethe thrash can is between the wall and an applience you can fit it sideways and turn the side of the attached lid toward the open space, he will not be able to reach on the other side to pen it but it will be a little awkward for you when opening the lid. Great trash can it is worth the little awkwardness.

    • I bought this trash can to keep my dogs out of the garbage. If your child is old enough to reach the top of the trash can then he/she can probably open it. It is not hard to open which is a plus for me when I am working in my kitchen. It snaps shut easy too but I know my grandkids had a harder time closing it because pushing the lid down till it locks is a little harded then pushing the button to open it for little people.

    • I think it would be less likely to be regarded as a " Toy" than would a swinging lid. It does open easily, with the touch of a finger, but it stays open until you close it manually.

    • I don't have any kids, but all you have to do is touch the front "latch" on top and the lid pops right on up! They could get a kick out of this and find it a source of entertainment. It is 11" high, so depending on how tall your kids are and how full the trash can is, they could reach into it. You might try a gate if you keep this in a pantry. We have bought a terrific gate from WalMart.com, a gate that we just love! It is the "The First Years" - Hands Free Gate, that is operated with a simple foot pedal. Kids cannot open the gate! They are not heavy enough. We have had the gate for a year and love it! It is a God sent item! It keeps our 2 labs out of our kitchen trash.

    • We've had this for over a year and love it. My 22 month just started messing with this. She is on the small side still wearing 12 month clothing. Her four year old brother uses it in front of her multiple times a day and I do believe he taught her to press the button. I have previously caught her trying to press the button but only recently has she been successful and she throws away all kinds of things now so it's a major annoyance.

    • There is a button on the top that you have to press and the lid pops open. It's very easy to operate. I don't have children, but I imagine that an attentive one would only have to see this happen a couple of times to figure it out. In other words, I think a child would get into it easily. It's great for keeping snooping dogs out of the trash though!

    • It is actually pretty tall, so he would have to reach up, press the button to open the lid and then try to reach in. When you press the button it opens easily. I am 5'8" and the top of the trashcan comes to a few inches above my knees. You may want to check the specs to see if they say how tall it is. The one draw back I can think of is that when empty it is pretty light weight and might tip over if he tries to reach in.

    • I think a toddler would be able to easily figure out how to open this trash can. The lid is on a spring & you jusy touch a button & it opens.

    • If he is tall enough to push the button, he's big enough to open it.
