Heavy Rain (PS3) 4.8 5 18 22
Constant rain...either you die or you live with it Let me begin by saying that this game is a welcome addition to the video game industry. In an industry getting drowned by endless shooters and whackers, H.R. (Heavy Rain) is such a soothing relief. The gameplay alone is very different as a mere button press will result in different angles and plot in the game. And such actions are reflections of your decision making. Either you let the game control you or you control the game yourself. I let myself dictate the story with my decisions and actions and I failed miserably. After the game, I was so sucked into the outcome that it made me think what could be the possible bad decisions I made that reflected the outcome of my first playthrough. Like I said, I failed the first time. I have never felt so sorry for my actions in a video game (or shall I say, a mini-movie) until this one. Not even Bioshock 1 and 2 can come close to it. Sadly, it could be a showing of my real-life subconscious that dictated me throughout the whole game. And it failed me. Honestly, it made me think about my own life as well. Could I be already doing something that may fail me in the future? I hope I am not. But then, I am just human. In terms of mechanics, it takes a while getting used to it and it may not be easy as you think it is (well, I played the hardest level though) as you should think on your feet when playing this game. There are no turning back when making decisions. You press a button in a big scene, it's locked in. Like in real life. When something's done, it is done. And judging by the number of trophies I got (I got only about 20 my first playthrough), I know there is more to this game. And the very ending was so disturbing. Made me jump out of my seat (I didn't know it has a horror part lol). I'll definitely replay this game over and over again.Graphics-wise, H.R. will not take the crown this year. Yes, it looks good over-all but screen tearing and framerate lags are just unbearable. Yes, my TV can only output to 1080i but I also tried running the game at strictly 720p and it didn't do anything at all. Hope Sony/Quantic will do something about it. There were also some nagging issues at the beginning of the game wherein the screen just goes black and the sound of the rainfall becomes so loud and glitchy. This happened specifically where the FBI agent (don't want to name names...spoils it...) met with the local cop and also the scene where Dr. Mmmm met with patient Mmmm in a psyche session. I had to re-start the game but luckily it didn't brick my PS3 (whew!). Sound is great and pairs well with my surround sound (again, with the exception of the above mentioned glitch/bug).Worth the money, worth the hype and definitely worth trying for MATURE people out there. I say mature as this game isn't for kids at all. Again, I don't wanna spoil it but just take my word for it. 02/26/2010
H.R. is Great!! i first tried this game by downloading the demo on my ps3 and right away i loved it. so i got the actual game for my bday and i can't stop playing it. it does start a little slow like the other reviews mention but oh boy does it turn into a intense horror mystery story. i always say that they should turn this game into a movie, i totally fell in love. i'm always going back and changing up the characters actions to see the different story lines it gives.it is rated "m" for a reason just so you know but overall i LOVE this game!! 04/20/2010
Its just like a crime drama I wont go into detail with the story with the game, to avoid spoilers. The game is very beautiful visually, to the point where its almost like a interactive movie. In the game itself, like the description says, you play as four people through out the game. A Private eye, a fbi agent, a journalist, and a father of one of the sons taken by the origami killer. Personally all I can really say is try it and you'll love it. I highly recomend it. 02/25/2010
HEAVY RAIN PUTS YOU IN THE GAME!!! I had been looking at this title off and on for a while now, and when I finally saw it at my local Walmart, I snapped it up. I don't normally play this type of game so I was a bit skeptical.Once I installed the game on my PS3, I was totally immersed in Heavy Rains gaming world. Between the ominous and sometimes creepy music and the richness of the characters, I felt as if I was watching and participating in a psycological drama. There were times when the game seemed so real, that I was almost afraid to turn around and find the Origami Killer behind me.The sequences and graphics are stunning to say the least, and the game has an engrossing story line. This game is AWESOME!!!!! 02/14/2011
