Seems Accurate

Customer review by CJMac

I really like the scale itself as well as the look of it. It's very easy to use and I think my favorite part is that it can store past data for up to 4 people. I had my body fat% checked with another product, one you hold in your hands, and it was quite different. This scale said 18.2% while the handheld said 12.3%. From what I'm told, the scale measures the time it takes for the electrical current to move from one foot to the other (or from one hand to the other for a handheld). It will take longer depending on how much fat there is to move through, which is how it is able to estimate your body fat %. Along with that, your height will affect how much time it takes for the electrical current to move through the body, which makes me think that the scale is more accurate because it actually asks you to enter in your height (which alters the calculations). I don't think the handheld device asks that... and since arms are shorter than legs, it seems logical that the handheld would be giving too low of a body fat % estimate since it's a shorter electrical route. (This is all just my speculation). All that to say, I think the scale is more accurate than a handheld. To those who had problems using this scale, specifically, the people that say they stand on the scale and all they get is an "E" error code, it basically means you're not reading the instructions. You get that "E" if you stand on the scale too quickly instead of waiting for the scale to show a 0.0 before standing on it. The instructions are there for a reason... :) It's a great product. I have been using it as I'm going through the P90X workout program and it is doing a great job tracking my weight, body fat %, etc... as well as the date. Very convenient.

I have had many different types of scales for many years and this has been the best and the most accurate one that I have ever had. It can save up to 4 different people settings (the most I have see so far) It covers the most important health concerns, along with your Body Weight -- Body Fat Composition, Body Mass Index, Bone Mass and Body Hydration. With the, up too 4 persons, tracking your progress to set your weight goal and calculating the weight differences between your starting point, your previously saved weight and your set weight goal. One issue that I have with it is the instructions are not very clear on what you should do. What I found works is after you set up each persons settings. Pick a time in the day (the best time would be right after you get up and go the bathroom then weigh yourself. Click on your number, say one, and when the scale shows 0.0 stand on the scale and stand still The next screen you will see will be your weight, do not get off yet, weight for the next screen will show your weight again along with your Body Fat in the lower right corner, do not get off yet, when the next screen come up, this will show your Bone Mass instead of your weight. At this time get off the scale and press the SELECT button to save your data. Now you can use the up and down arrows to look at your data. If you do not save your data it will be lost for good. So as far as the instructions go if you just skip instruction (A) and follow instruction (B) (the instruction I just gave you above)you will be able to review everything the scale will do for you. One more thing the instruction do not cover is what does the Bone Mass number you get mean. The instructions only say that it measures the weight of bone or amount of mineralized tissue in the bone in your body. It does not tell you if this number is good or bad or low or high or what to do with this number. The instructions go over a lot of information about Bone Mass but nothing about what this number it give you really means. I have look all over the Web with not getting help with understanding what this number still means. My guess is that this number is a % of your total weight is your Bone Mass but I could be wrong. Other then this, I still think this is a very good product and will help my family work toward our goals of weight management.

It is easy to use. The info does go through quickly but if you save it you can review it at your own pace. It does keep track of your weight history. It even keeps track of your goal weight and how far away you are from it.

  • Hold both the profile button (that you want to reset) and the select button down together for 3 seconds until it resets. To reset date/time, remove the batteries.

  • You cannot "correct" user profile data but you can "reset" it and put in the correct data. All profile data and records for that user will be lost. 1) Press "Select" button and the relevant "User" button at the same time for about three seconds. 2) Use the Up-Arrow or Down-Arrow buttons to select "Ye.s" or "No" then press "Select" button to confirm. 3) The scale will shut off. Press the relevant "User" button to begin reprogramming that user with the correct profile data.

  • you have to select the user first, then press and hold the user number and select at the same time. it is tricky and you may have to try a couple of times but it will come back and ask you for confirmation to ERASE? I returned mine because of the inaccuracies.

  • Just delete that user and re-add the information using the correct numbers. To delete a user, you press the number of the user you want to delete and select at the same time until you get a message asking you to confirm that you want to delete the user. Release both buttons and press "select" again to confirm.

  • I would have to double check but I believe you just hold down the user button and reset all the information. It's in the instructions.

  • just push "user 1" button, then push up and down arrow for height, and then push select button, and then up and down arrow for age, and then push select button, and then up and down arrow for boy or girl and then select button, then push up or down for yes or no weight goal, and then select button. If you selected no for weight goal then you are done.

is this scale always off and innaccurate on the measuring of body fat?
by jeanmil 1/10/2011
  • Body fat is usually inaccurate on most scales. I don't think it is any more inaccurate on this scale than any other scale you would purchase. Since it is an impedance measurement, it is highly dependent on your hydration level and the amount of fat in the area of body where the impedance runs. So in the case of this scale it runs up one leg and down the other. If you tend to carry most of your fat in the legs and are thinner elsewhere, you will show a higher body fat measurement than you would using other methods. If the majority of your weight is carried in your upper body and you have very thin legs, you will show lower body fat than you would using other measurements. If you want highly accurate body fat readings, you will need to do underwater weighing. Skin caliper measurements which you can have done at gyms are more accurate than impedance measurements similar to what this scale gives. As far as the weight goes, this scales reads the same every time I get on and off of it. When I weigh at WW in the same clothes right after weighing at home, this scale reads almost identical. The BMI is just calculation using the weight it got and your body height that you entered. So that is just as accurate as your weight is on this scale as long as you entered your height correctly.

  • I just sent mine with my husband back to the store for a refund. Mine kept adding 1+ lbs. a day, the date and time were bonkers on it and it didn't measure the body fat right. I'm on Weight Watchers, and I know I'm losing weight and this scale doesn't show it. It's worthless.

  • mine seemed pretty accurate, but I think it's more based on your other numbers. To get true body fat % you would have to undergo that underwater testing at a facility.

  • It really depends on your hydration levels. If you measure first thing in the morning, you are very low on water, and the electro-resistance is higher, misrepresenting your body fat as much higher (my current record is 54%, and I'm 5'11 & 205 lbs) You can get it to be much more accurate by measuring at a different time of day, when you are fully hydrated (but you're going to weigh more... more water = more mass).

  • this scale (when used properly) is very accurate (unforunately for me). i was surprised that i didn't spend an arm and a leg for it and its as accurate as my doctors office's scale and percentages

  • I have not idea. Mine works. I have another ordinary dial scale and it gives the same weight. As far as the BMI and bone density and other gimmicks, they work as long as you have bare feet as it is sending a current through one foot to the other. I don't know how accurate are.

  • I don't (yet) know about downloading a manual but would like to do so as well. However, I was able to figure out how to erase data. To erase any of the four individual users simply press and hold the select button and a user button simultaneously until the screen asks if you would like to erase the user (just says 'erase?'. From there, you hopefully can figure out how to program a new user (height, age, etc.). I just did this for my family.
