This tank has well enough room for my betta, I even put a lil cave and a few plants in there. looks awesome and he's very happy! Read the reviews before I bought this tank(had really good reviews) and YES the lights do ROTATE/ALTERNATE COLORS, there's actually 3 different modes.. Before I put the tank together, I made sure everything worked. So I was playing with the light, when I would go through the colors, I would let it sit a few seconds to make sure each color worked.. after the "still" colors(there are 6) that is when you have the rotating lights. There's a fast mode, slow mode, and sort of a fiber optic mode(looks cool) I'm glad to say i am very happy with my purchase.

I baught this and my toddlers have been mesmerized ever since! lol I got the clear marble rocks for my tank and it allows the color to really shine threw, some of the colors arent that bright but the others are really cool and my kids get a kick out of a diff color everyday :) Make sure you only put one or two little fish in it otherwise it will get cloudy, I would also recommend you buy the tiny filter to set up with it. Ive included pics from morning to evening and no flash.

Just add gravel/glass beads, plants and fish.

This comes with everything else you need, even water conditioner and fish food. I highly recommend researching how to setup a freshwater aquarium, before you get started. The clear glass beads sold at dollar stores works better than gravel in this aquarium. I placed the pump upside down on the top for a very short, powerful and quiet air supply. If you set this up right, ie. live plants, 2-4 fish max, you'll only have to test and change water (25%) regularly (weeekly). Do your research and you'll be very happy with your purchase.

    • Ideal aquarium kit for a betta or a couple small fish. Kit is easy to set up and easy to maintain. Undergravel filter does an excellent job of keeping the water crystal clear. Reminder to always do a monthly water change of 20% using a gravel siphon vacuum.

    • For one beta, yes. You could probably put a dozen guppies in here ok. But remember that it is only 2 gallons and you dont want to push it. Guppies are pretty small, but I would not put more than a couple bigger fish in the tank.

    • I purchased the tank intentionally for my beta. I'm sure 2-3, maybe even four guppies could live comfortably in the space. I've had many different shapes of small tanks, and this is by far my favorite. The cylinder (round) shape seems to give my beta more room to roam about.

    • Both but a list of the recommended fish are on the tank. At 3 Gallons this is a good size tank with plenty of room for either. Aquariumguy

I brought a 1 gallon (filtered) tank from Petsmart and it sucked in my betta fish :( How strong is this filter?
    by Angel234 11/16/2011
    • This isn't a filter so much as a bubble stone that circulates water. It's perfectly safe for a Betta and he will probably find it amusing.

    • I don't think its an actual filter, more like a bubbler. I have a gold fish in it and he does ok.

    • This tank has no filter. The tube you see in the center of the tank hold the air bubbles tube and comes with an attachment to cover the top of it.

    • I have a beta in mine. There is a cover that goes over the air tube that prevents the fish from being sucked in

    • the filter tube has a cap on top so the fish cannot get inside. My little guy loves the bigger space, moves about comfortably, and never seems to be bothered by the moving water from the top of the filter tube. Hope this helps!

    • The pump in this is perfect for a Betta, it is an undergravel type so it gently pulls the water through the gravel & filters it. We have Bettas in two of these tanks with absolutely no problems.

    • We have a Betta fish in out tank-the filter is fine (it is actully a grate on the bottom of the tank) and the bibble is housed in the center tube and hase a screen to stop the fish from entering.

    • its not loud at all.
      by Miahmiah0911/13/2014
Was this answer helpful? (2) (0)
    • No, I don't think they are loud. Its a very low bubbling sound, not distracting. I think my fan is louder.
      by sandollars11/13/2014
Was this answer helpful? (2) (0)
    • There is only bubbling, since it does not come with a filter. I can not hear any sound coming from it unless I put the air pump on something that makes it vibrate.
      by CarolJS11/13/2014

    • No, it is very quiet

    • Mine is fairly quiet, but it is newer. You can put a replacement air pump on it if you want.
      by Jeep858911/13/2014
Was this answer helpful? (1) (0)
    • I don't really hear the bubbling. The pump is audible, but as stated in my recent review...I utilize the sound of the pump and my fan as "white out" noise while I sleep during the day, as I mostly work 12 hour night shifts.
      by dmnddiva1/11/2012
Was this answer helpful? (1) (0)
    • the air pump has a slight hum but nothing disturbing. there is no actual filter to plug in. it is the air pump that powers the under gravel filter.
      by ladyamays11/1/2014
Was this answer helpful? (2) (0)
    • The air pump that runs the filter and makes bubbles does make noise. It all depends on the size of the air pump. The bigger it is the more noise it will make. A large air pump will sound like a table fan when turned on.
      by chooch6281/11/2012
Was this answer helpful? (1) (0)
    • It's sort of loud, its not too noticeable though. If you are concerned about sleeping you can always shut it off for the night
      by KitKatKels11/28/2011
Was this answer helpful? (0) (0)
    • No, there is a small sound produced by the air pump but it is minimal.
