Got these new pads today for my little Pomeranian. Not only did my pets urine NOT turn to gel, as stated on the package, the urine leaked over the edge and UNDER the corner. No different than the regular pads.

These are the very best dog pads I have ever used. They absorb so much liquid just wish they were a little bigger. But all in all these are the best I have used. In fact they are so good I had a leak under my sink and didn't have enough towels so I used these and believe me I couldn't believe the amount of water they soaked up and all I had to do is throw them away. These are perfect for small to medium indoor dog's who may have an accident or two. I just wish Wal-mart would carry these ALL THE TIME IN MY STORE IN PAINTED POST,NY. These really are the best. Not sure what to tell the person who gave them a 1 star review other than they must have a very large dog with a big bladder. The other puppy pads that Wal-mart offer's in my local store are horrible they are thin and THEY LEAK. But not Hartz Ultra Guard awesome product! I would have given them 10 stars if I could!

Just started using these. The borders really do keep the urine from going onto the floor. The urine turns to a gel under the top liner. So much nicer to use. Worth the trip to the back of Walmart to get them!

After trying countless brands (including "out") these are by far the most superior product. Some of the other products would tear or have the filler "clump" when I was opening to place the pad on the floor. The OUT brand pads have very little absorbing material which causes ileaks underneath the pad. I needed something better or else I"m cleaning up a wet floor and a wee-wee pad every day. And this is with a tiny dog. I recently found Hertz brand pads and the product lived up to its name. It is definitely worth the price. Plus the way they are packaged, 50 pads take up very little space at home and in my dog's carrier for trips. Unfortunately my Walmart does not always have them and I buy OUT in a pinch. You can definitely tell the difference in quality. Like any pads, there is a small "trim" around the pad which is essentially the seal and contains no padding. It will definitely leak if your dog makes in this perimeter area. This is true of all brands not just Hertz though. However, my dog is small so this has never been a problem. These training pads are GREAT!!

My dachshund is experiencing paralysis in her hind quarters so dog pads became a necessity. I started in the middle of the price range trying out dog pads. Fortunately for me, I only had to try 2 other products before this one. I have been using The Hartz Ultraguard Dog Pads for about 3 weeks & will continue using them as long as they are a necessity because they live up to the packaging description. They are sturdy & awesomely absorbent. We now get to sleep 4 to 6 hours before changing the dog pad. Yeah! In this instance, I got better than what I paid for.

how does one train her dogs to use the pads

    • A. I think there is a scent in the pads that attract them. Or else, curiosity will bring them. How you train depends on the stage of training you're in. If your dog is not yet housebroken you can put the pad in the area where he usually goes. Then gradually begin placing new pads closer to the area you want him to go. For instance, if he pees in the living room but you want him to go outdoors, gradually more the pad from the living room to the door and then out Once he is accustomed, he will only go outdoors. Also, you will notice his patterns/habits (for instance after waking up or after drinking water or eating) gently guide him to the paid when he starts to exhibit tell-tell signs (like "going in circles").

    • A. I use to wonder the same question with other brand potty pads, but with these, my dogs just naturally went on them, so I would get so excited and offer them a treat. I panic when the store is out of them, because they dont go as good on other pads

    • A. Some pads claim to have an odor that should attract the dog to the pad. But it did not work for my dog - it seemed to be a hit or miss situation. I tried many brands. I really do not know the reason my dog is so good at using this pad (the Hartz Pad that turns the moisture into gel). I think you just have to try different pads to find the one your dog likes. But I bet this one will work for you.
