Hamilton Beach Full-Size Durathon Electronic Control Iron 3 3
Water pours out of the back of the iron plate. I just purchased this iron today to replace a T-Fal UltraGlide that I absolutely LOVED! The steaming switch actually broke on it resulting in improper function. I needed to replace the iron today and purchased this HB Electronic Durathon as it was super-important to me to find a non-stick ironing plate as I iron a lot of T-shirts with appliques and hate when the plate sticks and things stick to it. My T-Fal did not stick period. Couldn't find another close to me but this looked good. The bottom line is that water POURED out the back of this iron. So much so that I suspected it had been dropped (even though there was pretty good packaging)! I have much experience with irons and know how they work but I took the time to go back and read the manual, applying any troubleshooting measures there were. I waited for the iron to fully heat; did not overfill it; and tried adjusting the steam settings to see if one worked better than another. Nothing worked and I'm returning it tomorrow. I've had this experience with irons before - it really seems to be a hit and miss situation. But I'm thinking I'll drive to the nearest BBB and purchase another T-Fal so I'm not guessing about performance. If you try it, your experience may be different. The iron glided well, was a little rougher feeling than my previous one but still comfortable. Until water also leaked out of the handle. What a mess! 01/26/2012
Leaks like crazy I purchased this iron as it seemed to have some good features and was a decent price. When using it today for the first time, it was easy to fill, heated up relatively quickly, and ironed smoothly...UNTIL...it started leaking water from the handle and from the bottom of the iron. I ended up with a huge mess! I have packed with iron up and will be returning it ASAP for something else. 02/26/2012
Buyer, BEWARE!!!!! This is by far the WORST iron ever. Do not waste your time with the purchase.Unfortunately there were no reviews dne when I purchased mine but Hamilton Beach you have really let me down and I doubt I'll ever purchase another one of your over priced products. It leaks really bad (as others have said) and when it heats up smells like something is burning. And just today the it started switching to the Auto Off while ironing. Is it too much to ask for a product to do as it states? I have yet to find an Iron that claims it does not leak to actually NOT leak water. You'll be better off buying a cheaper iron that at least will iron your clothes than to do as I have and purchase more expensive irons that will be replaced year after year after year. 04/26/2012
