Halo Wars Limited Edition (Xbox 360) 4.5 5 18 32
Another Great Game in the Haloverse I had heard some good reviews, and bad reviews of this game, when I first got home on Spring Break and was able to finally open my Limited Edition Copy. And so, first, a review of the Limit Edition:It comes in a plastic overcase, and inside are a metallic case containing the game, and a paper fold-out with the special features. The metallic case is the same type as Gears of War 2 came in, as well as Halo 2, and many other Collectors editions, and if you like those, you'll love this. On the front are the Elites, and on the back, the UNSC. Inside the other container, which is roughly the size and dimensions of a normal DVD case, there are cardboard sheets with info on each character, plus the codes to get the special warthog and Wraith tank, in game, as well as a UNSC badge that sticks to glass. To the game itself: It was made by Ensemble, who were previously known for being the makers of the groundbreaking Age of Empires series, back in the late 90s. Age of empires was the first big Real-Time-Strategy game, which opened the genre to lead on to all sorts of other games, such as C&C Generals, and the like. The big question was, can even Ensemble, an RTS expert, make a fun and easy to play RTS on the Xbox? From my playing it, I would say definitively yes. However, someone expecting another Age of Empires will be disappointed, because it's very different. First and foremost, the whole system of buildings is completely different. There are a certain number of bases, at which point you can take over, and use to make a limited number of buildings, each of which has functions. Resource gathering is now limited to certain buildings, instead of units, and the only resource is money. However, it is effectively only limited by time, since it will continue to build in indefinitely. As to combat, it is actually very fun. There is a campaign to play through, as well as player vs player, and the way to control units is much easier than one would expect on an Xbox controller. Different buttons can select all units, local units, all units of one type, or even drag and select. Finally, one of my favorite parts of the game, are the cut scenes, which are truly the best I have ever seen. If anyone enjoyed Halo 3 and Gears of War 2 cut scenes, the ones from Halo Wars have taken it to the next level. The faces, the people moving, are just incredibly lifelike, and ties the game well back to the FPS Halo 1-3 games.Overall:This was a great game, and well worth the extra money to upgrade to the limited edition. If you like RTS games on the computer, or you are a Halo fan, I think you will enjoy this. 03/20/2009
Halo Wars: Great Buy This version of the game comes with three new maps for halo 3 which I enjoy just as much as this game itself. This game has a very good campaign mode and awesome skirmish. I recommend to any halo or RTS(real time strategy) fan. 03/03/2009
its better than good This game was well worth the extra twenty dallors. it came with a steal case with both covers. i tryed the demo but the demo gives it a bad name. the story mode is so fun that i want to play it all over again. the onilne play is realy good but a little slow and sometimes freezes for a second or two but it is realy good. when you do co-op the you both comand the same forces as in singale player but the game splits them for each player. both players can make units at the same time in the same base unlike in multiplayer. if you are a halo junky than you are going to like halo wars. 03/05/2009
