Rated 5 out of 5★ by Have tried 2 other ACs, but this one is the best This is our 2nd, no 3rd room AC and it is sooooooo much better than the others. We are keeping this one for sure ( the other 2 were sent back in a heart beat, too loud and did not cool the room ) This one is so QUIET. Our room is small about 12 x 14 so it has to be close to the edge of the bed, but it is nice and slim and tall enough to get the cold air up over the bed. Cools the room great, no problem. I would not hesitate to recommend this portable AC for sure. Love it !!!!! 06/02/2014
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Works well! This works well for my needs, I got it to supplement my central air in my bedroom. I sleep better in a cold room. 2 days after buying this my central air went out and the temps were in the high 80's and 90's. Thank goodness I had it! It did a good job cooling the one room. I did add one thing, I bought some insulation meant for window air conditioners to put in where the top and the bottom sections of the windows met. I think this helps quite a bit. I put a bigger portion of the insulating foam strip under the tube that attached to the window panel for venting, kind of helps support it so not so much pull. It kept me cool on the 2 days my central air was out. Definitely pay attention to the size of the room and the BTU's needed, you can google that on the internet. 06/26/2014
Rated 4 out of 5★ by Works As Expected Temperatures were going to be in the mid 90's with lows in the 70's. I can deal with the heat during the day but need some relief at night and I knew running a window fan was not going to cut it. On top of that my cat doesn't like the heat and he is stuck in it all day. At least I am my work vehicle with air conditioning or onsite working in a store with AC. I purchased this unit the day before the heatwave; the last one they had at that store. Hooking it up took less than 15 minutes. I am cooling roughly 700 sq ft. Much more than what it is designed for. It takes hours for it to drop the inside temperature from 86-87 degrees to 80 degrees; however, it does lower the humidity while dropping the temperature. By doing this is, it makes the area feel much better. With the initial temperature at 87 degrees, I measured the temperature coming out of the unit. It was 69 degrees. Used a calibrated Thermalpen to do this. After a few hours and when the inside temperature hit 80 degrees, roughly 11pm, I put the unit on low for overnight. The following morning my apartment was 75 degrees and the air coming out of the unit was 62 degrees. There's no question that this unit blows cold air. If I felt I needed a larger BTU unit, I would have got a 14,000 unit instead of this 8000. I do not run it while I am away, 8:30am to 7pm. If I did, I feel confident that it would keep the inside air temperature close to 80 when the outside temps are 95.Because of my big, vertical sliding windows, a window unit was not going to work. Plus I don't like the look of a box hanging outside. This unit connects to 4" wide strip which is barely noticable. There are plenty of negatives with this type of portable AC unit. First is the noise. It has two fans just like all other AC units. The difference is that both are located with dwelling. A window unit has the compressor/fan on the outside so it it not as noticeable. With cental air, it is even located further from the living quaters. The other downside is that it draws air from within the home to cool the condensor and that air exits thru the hose. If you put your hand at the exhaust end of the hose, you'll notice it flows qiute a bit of air. Needless to say, sucking air out of the home has to be replaced. The replacement air is coming thru the normal air leaks with in the home. So essentailly, that air coming into the home is hot air. Not nearly as hot as the air coming out of the exhaust hose. A better unit would have two hoses. One to pull the outside air to cool the condensor and a hose for it to exhaust the hot air. That would eliminate the sucking of outside, warm from entering the home. On the bright side, I can run this unit for around $1 a day (12 hours) during above normal summer temperatures. Once we get back to normal temperatures I may only need to run for a couple of hours when I get home from work. Even though I do not run it during the day, the inside temperature is cooler when I get home from work because my apartment starts off cooler when I leave. This type of unit is not for everyone. I like it but I knew the advantages and disadvantages before buying it. Just a word of advice. An air conditioner should run almost 100% of the time when sized correctly. By constantly running it will remove more moisture from the air than one running at 50% of the time. The lower the humidity, the better it feels which will allow the thermostat to be bumped up a degree or two; saving a little on your monthly energy bill. 07/18/2013
Rated 5 out of 5★ by I love my portable AC I truly am happy with my recent purchase with not one but two portable air conditioners. This was truly a great investment. 06/28/2013
Rated 1 out of 5★ by Electric bill doubled in one month! Bought this unit and used it for one month. It didn't seem to be cooling all that well and admittedly, it was running quite a bit. When I received my electric bill, I almost fainted! This thing had almost doubled my electric bill. I immediately unplugged it and I guess it's headed for a listing on Craigslist because I simply cannot afford to run the thing. I should have stuck with an energy efficient window unit! Oh well....live and learn. 06/23/2014
Rated 1 out of 5★ by Full light on - first time used The first time I turned on the unit, the full light was on. Followed the instructions to drain the water, but there is NO water, and there should not be any water since this is the first time it is used. Called Haier, followed all the instructions of rebooting the unit. No luck. The unit would not run at all - probably a defect. I checked the bottom of the unit and there was a crack in the drain pan. Still no water and unit refuses to operate/ Took the unit back to Walmart. Haier suggested that the unit should be returned because of a defect. 06/02/2013
Rated 3 out of 5★ by Good air conditioner, but lousy installation parts The air conditioner itself works well and is easy to operate. However, installation was a nightmare. The exhaust nozzle comes in two parts that are supposed to snap together tightly, but don't. They tended to keep coming apart, and I was forced to secure them with duct tape. Also, it was a major chore trying to screw the exhaust nozzle and hose connector onto the ends of the exhaust hose. These parts are kind of low quality (in my humble opinion) and they tended to pop right back off when I went to shift the hose or a/c, even though I had the parts screwed well down onto the hose. Plus the exhaust nozzle doesn't stay fastened very firmly in opening to the sliding window panel that came with the unit -- ergo, I ended up using duct tape again. In addition, the exhaust hose is poor quality. It's made of really thin plastic that doe not insulate very well. The plastic heats up quite a bit when the a/c is in use and gives off a good deal of heat -- which hinders the a/c a bit from cooling things efficiently. This tends to make the a/c have to work harder than necessary. It would have been really great if they had used a thicker, more insulated rubber hose instead of the thin plastic one. 06/27/2014
