Decided to put this in my bedroom window, I do have central air but I wanted to close the bedroom doors and keep the room extra cool for sleeping. Installation was a breeze, took 15 minutes. Installed the included battery into the remote and pushed the on button. The a/c started putting out cool air within a a minute. I use the timer / power off feature to shut the unit off after a few hours. Works perfectly. This unit pushes out plenty of cool air, noise level on par with most other window units. I do use the low speed most often. My electric bill only went up a few dollars and I've been running it every night for 2 months. Can be used with or without the remote, I mostly use the control panel to set and operate it. I decided not to use the included side curtains, I instead cut to pieces of 2" foam insulation and slide them along each side, used white duct tape to seal. Extra quietness and thermal barrier. Just my preference. Minor complaints, wish it were a bit quieter Good buy for the money, when it got real hot here the store sold out of these quickly

I purchased this same unit about 4 years ago when I lived on the 5th floor of an apartment building. My apartment was 3 rooms and a bath. I put this in my livingroom window which faced north and it cooled the apartment well. I had to use a box fan to pull air around a corner to my bedroom and by doing this was able to sleep comfortably of an evening. I used it for two summers and when I moved I gave it to another family meber to use and he is still using it. I am please with the purchase and am going out in the next day or two to purchase two more of them for my daughter who lives in an upstairs apartment that has no air. Thank you and keep the good work up.

Just bought this tonight, cannot vouch for long term durability or anything like that, however it seems built well, What I can say is it goes together in about 2 minutes and you'll have it in your window in about 5 minutes. It takes a few minutes to start blowing cold air but once its going it is very cold air. would not use for a large room, but it works well in a small bedroom. The remote control works very well and has some decent distance.

We bought this a/c unit online and the turnaround time from order to delivery was superb. This unit was bought for a small bedroom so anything bigger than a 5,000 BTU would have been overkill. The unit works really well and keeps my son's room nice and cool even on a hot day. So as for performance the a/c unit is perfect. It is lightweight and simple to install. However, the description led us to believe that the unit would turn itself on and off at a certain temperature. It is digital and tells you how warm or cool the ambient temperature is. Frankly, this does not impress me. A $1 thermometer could do the same thing. The extra $15 spent to get the unit that maintained a set temperature was wasted. If not for this, we would be 100% satisfied.

I live in a 12x60 mobile home. I have 2 of these...one in my bedroom and one in my dining/kitchen area which is open to my living room. This is their 4th summer. I replaced the batteries in the remotes this year for the first time. I keep the filter screens clean. My electric bill runs $30.00 so far, with TV and computers running also. I am 62 & I install them myself in my windows each summer. I'd be suffering in the heat without them. Haier is a good brand.

I bought this unit last summer, worked great! Put it back in this summer and realized we can't find the remote. well, turns out all you can do is turn the unit on without the remote. Can't change the setting or the temp without it. dang.

I read several of the reviews on this sight as well as others before I bought this unit. It shipped very fast and for free! I did not install this unit in a vertical sliding window. I built a frame for it to mount it in a horizontal sliding window (a link to those directions are at the bottom of my review). The room I have it in is 12' x 13' and it cools it off from 85 degrees to 72 degrees in about 35 minutes. The remote works from everywhere in the room, and the timer feature on the remote allows me to have the unit on while in bed and set a timer as I am falling asleep, knowing the unit will be off while I am sleeping. Very handy! The big concern I had was power consumption. Im not talking about my electric bill, I am referring to amps. I have this unit plugged into a wall that also runs my computer, television, floor fan, cable modem, router, monitor, speakers, and cell phone charger!!! It works flawlessly, without ever throwing the 15amp circuit breaker. You should buy this unit if price is any concern for cooling a small room, it is awesome. I would definately buy another one if I needed one, and would recommend it to a friend in a heartbeat! http://www.instructables.com/id/Mounting-a-Standard-Air-Conditioner-in-a-Sliding-W/ (above is a link to the instructions I used to install this unit in a horizontally sliding window)

There is one major problem with this unit--NO DRAIN HOLE on base pan. Unit will leak into room, even if back is tilted downward, after heavy use.....beware.

A good little unit, allthough it is kind of loud. cools good and has nice features but I was led to believe it would turn completely off after reaching set temp. but only the compressor turns off. so the fan runs constantly.

3rd unit we've purchased

This was the 3rd unit we have purchased. We bought 2 for our camp and 1 for our home. However, the last one I ordered did not cool at all. We had to return it to our local Wal-mart and get another. We ended up getting a larger unit because they didn't have the 5,000 btu in stock but the 2 we have at our camp work wonderfully so I guess it was just a fluke that we were delivered one that didn't do anything but blow warm air.

  • A. I don't know the DB, but I can tell you that it is considerably more quiet than the last 2 air conditioners I've had.

  • A. It is louder when it is cooling, but when it reaches the set temp it sounds lower. I have 2, and one is in my bedroom. It hasn't been a problem sleeping nearby it. I also don't have to turn the sound up on the TV in the living room when it is cooling. Noise hasn't been a problem.

  • A. I do not know the decibel for this unit but it does create a good bit of noise on the cold setting. The fan setting is much more quiet. If you are thinking about using it in a bedroom while watching the TV, expect to raise the volume of your TV in order to hear it over the compressor.

  • A. It might not be pretty but if you have boards and plywood, you could make it work. We installed our 2 units in a 1970's trailer with the roll out windows!

  • A. Mine are. I took some thick cardboard and covered them with contact paper. I have awnings which protect them. Anyway, the cardboard was cut to fill the opening. I take them down when I remove the air conditioners. If you want wood cut to size, your local lumber store or hardware place can cut it to size for you. It cuts down on the light into the room, but it is what most people do.

  • A. The short answer is yes. The long answer is that it would depend on the window height and whether or not you are able to create a frame for it if the window is taller than the unit. If you build a box, remember to insulate the box to eliminate as much of the hot/cold air exchange as possible.

  • A. Yes as long as the window opens wide enough, you will need to fill in above the air conditioner with some plywood or insulating foam since the window doesn't close down onto the unit. Also be sure to have adequate support on the outside of the window to keep the unit from tipping out
