Haier 24,000-BTU Energy Star Window Air Conditioner with Remote ESA424K-L 1 5 4 4
You get what you pay for holds true. I purchased this 24,000 BTU air conditioner 7/20/11, during the great heat wave of 2011. This was the last air conditioner in my town, and I was willing to run a 220V line to make it work. I worked on a 105+ degree day to run the 220V line and get this beast mounted in the window. Since the actual guts of the air conditioner slide out of the shell, mounting was a breeze. We got her mounted in the window and turned her on, and it was great. Nice cold air, it brought the temp down in the 1000+ square ft room 12 degrees in under an hour (97 to 85). It had a roaring fan, but something we could get used to seeing how powerful it was.The problem came 3 days later on 7/24/11 when we noticed the temp was rising in the room slowly. The thermostat was set at 79, but the room was 84. Eventually, the temp inside was hotter than the temp outside. We knew something was wrong. I was surprised to reach a customer service rep for Haier on a Sunday evening. That is about the only thing that impressed me with this company.After running through the basics with her...checking the thermostat, making sure the unit was set to cool...ect...she agreed that the unit had a problem. My options were to exchange it or have it serviced by their authorized company. Since it was the last air conditioner, and our local Wal-Mart was not getting any more in, we opted for in home service. The soonest they could come out was 7/28/11, 4 days later in a heat wave. We waited patiently, and finally Thursday rolled around and we waited, and waited...all day. I finally called the company who was supposed to come out to find out what the problem was. I was told they would contact the technician and get back to me. I called back an hour later after not hearing back, and was told something that made me weak at the knees. The technician that Haier scheduled to come out does not service my area...nobody was coming.I called Haier back and informed them of their mistake. I was assured it was no mistake, and the computer said that tech is who was supposed to service my area. A little back and forth later, the scheduled an appointment with another technician who was supposed to call me within 48 hours to make an appointment.I gave them 24 hours and called to make the appointment myself. The woman on the line was very nice, and set up the soonest appointment they had, in 6 days, the following Thursday. She assured me that they would come out sooner if an appointment canceled. I took this as an empty promise, and started shopping for a new AC unit. I found one at Walmart.com, and ordered it for home delivery. On Tuesday, 3 days after my call, I received a call saying they would be in my area to look at my AC unit that morning. Great, if they get that one fixed I simply return the one I ordered. The tech arrived, and almost immediately said we will need to return the unit to Wal-Mart for a refund. Something in the evaporator leaked out all of the Freon and oil. He could fix it, but Haier only gives them 30 minutes on each house call, so he would have to take it with him, and bring it back in a week. Needless to say, we thanked him for his time, and removed Haier's equipment from our window. Our new GE air conditioner arrived later that day, and we went through the trouble of installing it in the Haier's place.To sum it up, the fact that they could let a family go that long without AC is ridiculous. Then, they send a repairman who they do not even allow enough time to do much more than look at the unit. While the price may seem great for 24,000 BTU, I'm just glad mine broke within the 12 month warranty period. Something like this is not a luxury appliance, when our home is over 100 degrees inside, we need an air conditioner we can trust, and Haier is not a brand to trust. 08/03/2011
HAIER AIR CONDITIONER IM SENDING A NEGATIVE REVIEW. I HAD A VERY BAD EXPERIENCE WITH YOUR PRODUCT AND THE COMPANY AS WELL. I WOULD NOT RECCOMEND ANY PRODUCT OR THIS COMPANY TO NO ONE.IT TAKES MONTHS TO GET A REFUND ,OR A RESPONCE FROM ANYONE. 08/12/2011
NOT HAPPY !! MY AC WAS A REALLY BIG ONE ,AND BECAUSE IT ARRIVED DAMANAGED (FROM THE FACTORY ) AS THERE WERE NO VISABLE DAMANGE TO THE BOX, SO IT WAS SOLD DAMANGED TO START !! I HAD TO GET MY OLDER NEIGHBOR TO HELP PUT IN MY TRUCK TO TAKE BACK, THAT WAS NO EASLY TASK !!!! IM SURE THAT IT WOULD BE GOOD IF IT WORKED 04/26/2012
dont waste your time My review on this product is the same as the 1st guy. I bought this ac and it never worked right from the start now the compressor wont stay on and the coils are freezing over (which usually means its low on freon) I am taking it back to walmart and ordering a different brand- I had a frigidaire in my house before this Haier and it lasted over 5 years so I think I will return to their product, I was just trying to save money with this one, but cheaper isnt always better. The same was also the shipping, the unit had a little damage on the back fins when i opened up the box. 05/19/2012
