Works wonderfully with supported hardware

I originally was looking for a bluetooth enabled mouse but I didn't find any, though I came across this mouse and after reading some of the reviews I was somewhat curious to try this mouse myself since I had never heard of a wi-fi mouse before I seen this one and it would be great if it actually worked and I didn't have to sacrifice a much needed USB port (my laptop only has two USB 3.0 ports and one 2.0 port. I ordered the mouse despite reading all of the (mostly) negative reviews and low score, and I honestly didn't expect much. If I hated it I could just return it to my local Walmart even though I purchased it online. Once it arrived, my first reactions were pretty much "great, it comes with almost no instructions about how to connect this mouse" It came with the driver cd, warranty paperwork, and a illustrated (and text free) guide to setting up the mouse. I can follow pictures easy enough, just illustrating my first impressions were rather dubious. I shouldn't have worried, It was easier than my bluetooth mouse to pair! I just needed to install the driver software first (though admittedly I have an issue with that, the drivers came on a mini cd, which I could not use at all as my laptop (HP Envy 15) has a slot loading optical drive and mini cds cannot be used in these drives, I had to grab my other notebook and copy the disk files to a flash drive first.) Other than that issue, all I needed to do was remove a tab of plastic from the mouse (keeping the batteries from making a circuit and draining the batteries before the mouse even arrives, since it comes with batteries and is usable straight out of the box) once it was removed, it found my Wi-fi and connected automatically. I have to admit this mouse feels really comfortable, at least to me. It is made to be comfy in either hand with the soft rubber contours on each side. I felt the ergonomics allowed me to retain a natural grip on the mouse, so I quickly lost interest in just playing with my new mouse or its features, which is a good thing! I could focus on my work without fighting or facing hardware or software issues I had expected this mouse to have from the reviews I'd read, or experience bad design flaws that would stick out like a sore thumb, literally. I DID however do my homework before purchasing this mouse, I looked up what wi-fi cards are compatible with this mouse, my Envy uses an Intel Ultimate-N 6300, which was listed as compatible. I have had not a single disconnect from my wi-fi since initially pairing it with my laptop. I do not notice any lags, or stuttering at all, the mouse moves smoothly without jerkiness or losing the connection at all, and I use my laptop frequently for work. I am guessing that the negative reviews are due to unsupported wi-fi hardware (admittedly though, there is very little documentation about this rather important requirement, neither is it listed here. It isn't even written on the box (other than a far from informative requirements checklist stating it needs a Win7 Logo certified wireless adapter on the back of the packaging) So i would assume an incompatible adapter could be the cause of others' issues. I have a adapter that is listed as certified, and I have had zero issues with this mouse from the moment I connected it. I do have some small issues with the mouse, but these are simply preferences or issues I have with the mouses' design, as I have encountered no issues with performance, wi-fi pairing, for me at least seems pretty solid. The scroll wheel is very smooth, not a bad feature, just different. I am used to mice with ratcheting mechanisms, that can be scrolled a set number of lines per 'click'. This one is fluid and loose, there is a tiny amount of feedback suggesting it is using the same ratchet design, though it gives rather easily and I sometimes scroll too far. Not a legacy device/Plug and play. Though to be honest I never expected it would be usable under such conditions (BIOS, safe modes, since the driver would not be loaded, and the mouse is not usable during these modes) Left and right buttons are situated in away that only one is easily used with a persons' thumb, the other is not impossible to reach, just not intuitive. Other than those small nitpicks, I am satisfied with how well this mouse has performed so far, it is comfy, sleek, and comes with enough features for at least the average user to get a little more out of their mouse than with a traditional RF 2 button mouse.

Great Idea, but needs improvement

I, like others, must reconfigure the mouse frequently on re-boot. It's a great idea for my office since I purchased a new HP Pavilion p7-1020 upon which I installed Windows 7 Pro. The mouse doesn't like it when I sit physically between it and the desktop however. And the mouse is only about 5 feet away from the desktop and router. So, I have to sit back in my chair frequently so it can find the mothership again. Then I can go on. When I start the computer up in the morning, computer doesn't always find the mouse, even though I know the mouse is connected to my network. So, I have to get out the USB mouse that came with the computer to get booted up and reconfigure the wireless mouse. It's time consuming and frustrating. "Time is money and this wastes my time". HP needs to get this wrinkle worked out and it would be a great item.

HP dongle-less Wi-fi mobile mouse

Mouse responds well once you get the active connection down to a science. I use HP connection manager, rather than the on/off toggle button on the keyboard. It seemed to work better at getting my LAN router and mouse connected at the same time. Used the mouse for gaming that required millions of fast responce clicks, and it worked every time. I considered the bluetooth mouse, but read that this wi-fi mouse runs on radio control technology, not wi-fi internet, and was easy on the battery consumption. I'm still testing the battery claim out. (only 1 week) Looks very nice, but I feel the battery cover/buttons on this product is a little on the flimsy side. Overall, it's a recommended product for laptop users who want the freedom of wireless, but don't have to sacrifice a USB slot to get it.

Needs improved firmware and driver

I am an HP supporter. I buy their products...laptops, printers, mice...heck even my mousepad is an HP and I want so very much for this mouse to be usable. Let me start out by saying that I'm computer savvy. I understand drivers, firmware, software and hardware. I've done everything that this 15 years of experience IT person can do and this mouse has issues...or at least the driver or firmware does. HP needs to correct this. The installation software that comes with the mouse is better than the new driver and firmware that one can download as an upgrade. So don't use the upgraded versions. HP needs to go to the drawing board and create a new firmware package for this and build into that a new driver. The new driver that you can download only replaces the new firmware and vice versa. Fix this HP...please. Other than the thing not working most of the time, when it does, the mouse has a nice weight to it, nice feel and is very responsive. The left and right side buttons are useful and I would rate it 5 stars if it would simply work consistantly. I have ever confidence that this will be fixed, but HP needs to know that there's a problem. If you own this mouse, please contact them as I will and let's get this thing working!

First of all, we need to follow the installation instructions step by step. It was my fault that initially the mouse did not work so that I thought it was a defect one. I've called the HP tech guy to ask for an exchange. However he guided me through the whole process of installation again, and it's worked wonderfully until now without any trouble. I personally want to thank this tech guy for his courtesy, patient and excellent knowledge. This mouse is connect wirelessly to my HP laptop, it does not cost a USB port, that's a plus. The connection is excellent, there is not a time that it's lost a signal. I definitely recommend this product to any one who's used a HP product like laptop.
