I was pressured into getting a computer for school. I wish I would've waited. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice computer, it's just not what I was looking for. For starters, the battery life is TERRIBLE. I'm constantly having to charge it. I'm lucky if it lasts more than three hours. Another thing, the computer won't let you download anything. It wouldn't even let me download software that it said I needed to upload music, which is infuriating. The files are very disorganized, I had to create my own folders for things, since everything just kind of gets thrown into "Downloads". However, the computer does start up fast, and the internet loads very quickly. Google Docs are easy enough to use (it's laid out similarly to Microsoft Word) and I like that it auto saves every so often. Bottom line, it's not a terrible computer. In fact, if all you want to do is use the internet and type papers, this is probably the best computer for the price. If you're looking to do literally anything more than that, save your money.

The All-in-One Chromebook (Best of Both Worlds)

In order to get things, you must give up others. Others may compare this to the Samsung Chromebook which has a Samsung low-powered processor which allows for over 6 hours of battery life vs. this machine that, like the Acer Chromebook, has an Intel Celeron processor, not ironically both of them are rated just over 4 hours of battery life. I believe this machine is having your cake and eating it too, although it may not have the exact icing you want on it. You get the solid state drive you'd be missing in the Acer C7, you get the Intel Celeron w/HD Graphics chip you'd be missing in the Samsung Chromebook, and you get the screen size you'd be missing in both those machines. If you can't live with 4.25 hours of battery life vs. 6 hours (only 1.75 more hours), then you should prepare to bring a charger (surprisingly included with every Chromebook), or prepare to accept a more lightweight processor and a smaller machine (Samsung Chromebook).

This computer is sleek, fast, attractive, lightweight with a nice screen and keyboard. Unfortunately, it has its limitations. It is designed to run apps on the internet such as all of Google's office, Google Drive , YouTube, internet based email and other online apps and web sites. It is not made to run Internet Explorer, Microsoft Office, Excel or other Microsoft apps. We bought it for my 10 year old son who is particularly interested in playing games such as MineCraft. To play these games one needs an application on one's computer called Java. Google Chromebooks, we learned the hard way, do not allow one to download apps such as Java, so my son's hopes of playing such games on this computer were destroyed. As this computer could not fulfill his desires, we returned it the day after receiving it. It is a wonderful computer if you know its attributes and limitations. HP had a great and easy return policy.

Nothing refined about it

Its a Netbook with a Google built OS. Your marrying into a Google ecosystem and for some that is not a problem. For many who have become accustom to Windows or certain programs like iTunes or Microsoft Office. I think the frustration of Chrome OS will set in very soon. The reason why nothing is really refined on a Chromebook is simple. Lack of good driver support. The touchpad is bad on most Chromebooks because it lacks a good driver. You cannot just plug a printer into a USB port and have it work, nor can you connect directly to a WiFi printer. You have to use a ePrint type printer which is overly complicated to setup and print. If your OK with the limitations of a Chromebook then I think price wise this might be for you. Its basically a browser within a low powered PC that runs apps. downloaded through the Google store. Its not going to replace what a PC laptop or Apple Mac computer can do or run in terms of popular apps. Its very much like running a Linux OS leaned out by Google to run hardware and a Google browser. If you prefer Firefox or Internet Explorer your out of luck.

My back up computer

I have an HP Desktop which was ordered for me a few years ago by Geeks on Site when my old computer "died". I am pleased with that as well as the monitor and printer I purchased from HP for use with it. Saw these laptops advertised on TV and decided to get one as a back-up to my desk top; also so I do not have to by tied down by being in the room where my desktop one is. For the most part I am pleased with the performance, have been able to pretty much do all I've wanted to/needed to. Have run into a fewer minor glitches here and there, i.e., having a bit of trouble logging back on after automatic upgrades. Also, I cannot figure how to upload photos from my digital camera. However, as I said, I've been able to do most of what I want so I am pleased, especially with the price. Did get a mouse to use along with it as I find it easier to navigate that way.

After a full charge, the battery lasts no more than 2.5 hours. Some nights it won't charge plugged in and off (light is on). As a result I cannot turn on unless it is plugged in and then it gives me wild guesses as to when the battery will be charged. At the hardware level it should turn off when yu tell it to turn off and not turn back on automatically when you plug the power cord it. It should not be "on" when you hit the power button (you should see it boot up when you hit the power button. Clearly the hardware/bios was not finished before the device was shipped. The online support and documentation for the device at HP's site is non-existent and point you to Windows drivers, etc. It's as if someone said, "let's make a chromebook (t HP) and sold the device and everything else was an afterthought. It's a poor excuse for a chromebook.

I almost did not buy this because I have had very bad service experience with HP in the past. But I have large hands, and this is full sized, netbook size does not work and it has an HDMI, and I frequently watch YouTube videos through the laptop on my TV... So far so good...simple, fast, great mouse pad...lets hope I don't have to use HP service....but maybe now that Carley is gone it has improved again...it use to be good.

I really like the HP Chromebook. I did a lot of research and read the reviews and was really worried that I would update my Chromebook and it would crash! Apparently they've worked out the kinks with these later versions. I like how fast it starts. I've been using Google Drive for a year now so a Chromebook made sense for me. I like the idea of not worrying about viruses or updates. When the update arrow shows up I update and that's that. I have used the webcam, which is not excellent in clarity but was sufficient for my hour long conversation with my daughter. I also started up my ability to print by hooking up (virtually) the Chromebook to the desktop computer's printer. It took 5 minutes to get it going. I've only had this computer for a day but it seems fine to me! I also worried about the mouse/trackpad situation and even bought a mouse to plug in if needed. The pad is a little unresponsive at times but I just try again and it works. I haven't felt the need to plug in the mouse yet. This notebook works best for people who are doing most of their work online, willing to use the cloud based Chrome Drive, and want a light, easy to navigate, quick computer. I'm happy with it so far!

I am so happy with my choice in the HP Chromebook over the others that are out right now. This 14" version gives you the comfort of a laptop but the efficiency of the Chromebook. I am a small business owner who runs a Virtual Assistant business from home and I have all my information stored with Google already, it was an easy choice. I do still have my desktop that I have in the other room that I will have to use occasionally for printing until I get a Google Cloud Printer and then I will literally have no use for the PC. Although the unit is a little heavier that I had originally anticipated, it still has a nice overall feel. I put the battery in and was literally online and surfing the internet in under 20 seconds. I was in complete shock! The unit is a great value for the price and the added value of Google Apps built right in without any setup makes this a perfect solution for anyone who likes, loves, or uses Google. Also should note that the battery life on the unit is very acceptable runs at about 6-6.5 hours; which is perfect for me as I am never away from the outlet for that long. All in all I would highly recommend this unit to someone who wants/needs the Chromebook but also wants a laptop look and feel.

The Chromebook fits your needs if most of your computer time is on the web and, like me, prefer a laptop to a tablet. It starts amazingly fast and is very fast on the web. One can read all of the posted reviews for details of the Chrome browser, cloud storage, etc. I think that the Chrome experience will continue to develop to answer most internet needs. One drawback is that Skype is not available for Chrome although Microsoft is reported to be developing video conferencing for outlook.com. I am pleased with the feel of the laptop as it is the same as HP Sleekbooks. As far as I am concerned, it is as good as a Mac Air at one third the price. The only negative is the touchpad which I find difficult to use, so I use a wireless mouse instead.
