    What is a Chromebook PC?
Chromebook PCs are a new type of computer designed to help you get things done faster and easier. Chromebook starts up in seconds, so you can immediately start playing or working. Chromebook looks like a laptop and feels like a laptop, but differs from traditional computers as follows:

    • Instead of Windows OS or Apple OS, Chromebook PCs run on Chrome OS, an operating system that features multiple layers of security, cloud storage and the most popular Google products built right in.
    • Chromebook won't load and run traditional PC applications such as Microsoft Office, iTunes or Skype. However, Chromebook uses Chrome-specific apps for everyday tasks. You'll be able to create documents, listen to music, edit your photos, chat with friends and family and play online games. Plus, you can download many additional apps from the Chrome Web Store. No more buying and installing software - thousands of apps are free, and feature automatic updates.
    • Chromebook comes with built-in virus protection, multiple layers of security, and verified boot help to keep you safe from viruses and malware.
    • Your Chromebook will keep your files away from your machine and safe online. Google Drive is built right in, so your files and photos are automatically backed up to the cloud.
    • Your Chromebook will update itself for free, so you'll always have the latest and greatest version. No need for manual downloads and upgrades.
    • Chromebook works seemlessly with Internet. No internet at the moment? Keep getting stuff done when you're disconnected from the web by using offline apps like Gmail and Google Docs.

I love this computer. I got the Blue one its gorgeous. I love how simple it is and efficient. I have zero complaints. Any "downsides" from having this computer instead of a bigger more expensive laptop have turned out to be adjustments to getring used to this computer rather than a let down. It os a little different but turns out I love those differences! There are no indications that it it refurbished. No humming or anything. Its fast and even arrived fast, fully charged, and turned on when I opened it! Very cool laptop. I mainly use it for social media, controlling my website, Netflix, google docs, and internet browsing. Buy it. Also the sound and picture are amazing Bette than I expected. The sound is Bette than my husband's $500 Asus laptop.

well i had read all these reviews on the HP and i have to admit they are right .....this thing right out of the box looks and feels like a much more expensive laptop....it is as fast as anything i have seen for surfing the internet and seems to hold its battery power a very long time ....there are plenty of apps to choose from and lots of options as well....overall i would say this laptop is simply heaven for me easy to use and well worth the 300 bucks...speakers are really not that bad either for playing movies or music ....get one !!!

I'm currently in college taking online courses and travel a lot for work. This little chromebook is FANTASTIC! I can get to my school website lightening fast, it loads my video lectures for school quickly and plays them without buffering on WiFi, also the Tmobile data connection is also FAST. I had ONE bar of tmobile data service connection the other day (same as on my Galaxy Note cell phone) and my phone wouldn't load ANYTHING, the chromebook not only loaded but switched easily from webpage to webpage without a lag! I use this mostly for social media, emails, online shopping, watching netflix and videos for school. Using google docs takes a bit to get used to but it's not awful if you need to type up notes for school or whatnot. TIP, when you first get it, insert SIM card BEFORE turning on the chromebook, if not it's a pain to load the Tmobile service! No complaints here! I love my Coral refurbished unit and for $250 it can't be beat!!!

    • You may certainly use your WiFi connection at home -- or anywhere that provides a free public WiFi connection, such as Panera or Starbucks -- at no extra charge. The 4GB RAM model of the HP Chromebook sold by Wal Mart (and HP directly) *does* come with a FREE 200MB-every-month data allotment for, apparently, the life of the HP Chromebook 14. Now, 200MB isn't much -- that might allow you to check your email a couple times on the fly during a month -- but it is a nice perk. T-Mobile (who provides the cellular data service) also allows you to up that data limit on a weekly or monthly basis for a VERY reasonable charge.

    • This is a wifi computer so yes you will be able to connect it to your home wifi or any wifi hotspot you have access to. It also comes with 200mb of free 4G data every month in case you wanna use the internet when you don't have access to wifi.

    • You can use WiFi, of course. This model comes with LTE so if you have a sim card you can use this connection instead of WiFi.

    • Yes, it will connect via Wi-Fi.

    • You can use any available wifi connection. This comes with 200mb of free data from T-Mobile for as long as the machine lasts. This isn't a lot of data but would allow you to check your email in a pinch. You can sign up with T-Mobile to purchase additional data if you think you will need it. Either a monthly plan or data by the day. Also, T-Mobile service is pretty limited outside of major metro areas.

    • Internet service is not included with this HP PC, you can connect to the internet through the Mobile Broadband Module or through the wireless internet in your home but you will still need internet service. I apologize for any confusion this matter may have caused you.

I'm getting ready to go to college and I need an affordable, college friendly laptop.
    by Heather 7/1/2014
    • Hi, Heather, best of luck to you at school, and GOOD for you for weighing all of the computing options before you get there! Here's what you need to ask yourself -- HOW do I need to use my laptop at college? I think the answer to that depends heavily on what kind of major you're considering...if you're pursuing the kind of creative major that covers areas like photography, video production, music production, etc., then I would NOT recommend a Chromebook. In those instances, you'd likely need a powerhouse Mac or Windows laptop that allow you to run higher-end photography/video/music software. On the other hand, if you'll be doing MOSTLY writing, and perhaps SOME "number-crunching" via spreadsheets for college math and stats, with the occasional presentation in Google Slides for a class here and there, you *might* just be able to utilize a Chromebook at college. If you Google for "Chromebooks at college", you'll find a number of good write-ups from young folks like yourself who have made Chromebooks work in the college environment. I'm also speaking somewhat from experience -- my oldest son, who is a rising college sophomore, utilizes a MacBook Air...and for him (a political science/history major), THAT'S probably overkill. My younger son, a HS senior, has been using a Chromebook here at home for the past year and LOVES it. He'll likely be a business major in college next year, and he's trying to decide right now if he'll want a newer, higher-powered Chromebook or a MacBook Air for college. But I can tell you that he uses the Chromebook a LOT for high school. I hope all of this information helps, and again, good luck!

    • It's great for research, writing papers, streaming Pandora and videos (Netflix, Hulu, etc.). But its functions are limited and you won't be able to install PC programs on it (for example iTunes).

    • It depends what do you want to do with it. If you are OK with web based apps, than it's absolutely fine.
      by kryspenzo7/24/2014

    • I would not recommend this as a college laptop. You are going to write papers and do assignments and almost all of that will require use of Windows programs (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc,).
      by An anonymous customer7/11/2014
Was this answer helpful? (1) (0)
    • It only weighs two pounds and fits in my purse at roughly the same size as a pack of printer paper, so I would say if portability is your main concern, then yes. However, I had problems playing YouTube videos smoothly, so I will be returning mine for a faster machine. You may already know this, but Chromebooks are made mostly for internet use, and don't run any Windows programs like Word, Excel or PowerPoint, so I would think a PC would be a better choice. There are probably web based apps to translate your work, but it seems like it would be too much of a pain.
