Thank you for your question JJ! First, you need to pull a few inches of tape off the roll and make sure the tape is between the 2 plastic tabs and the plastic piece where the roller is. The tape should be smooth side against the roller. The tabs prevent the tape from falling down onto the roll and sticking to the tape.

You never have to search for the beginning of the tape roll again and the dispenser has a serrated edge that cuts the tape for you.  It also holds very well.

Excellent Packaging Tape

I really like that it is brown and blend s really nice Into the boxes that I have been using. I also really like the strength of it ; as it holds my boxes together and doesn't let go no matter how much I have put into the boxes. However what I love the most is the ease of getting the tape started off the roll. I no longer have to take  so much time trying to find the end of the roll and spending way too long trying to get it started. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for a heavy duty, multifunctional packing tape as you will not be disappointed in this one.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I found the EZ Start Ducktape easy to use and the tape held good. I would highly recommend the EZ start when trying to package anything especially when trying to box or pack for a move. It can be difficult to get tape started or to get it started back once you lay it down and aren't using it but not the case with the Ducktape EZ Start.

Either we got a bad batch or all these other people used this tape on different surfaces other than a carboard moving box....it DID NOT stick to cardboard. It also was not easy start....it kept ripping small pieces off.
