Great Steam Mop, Great Price! Beats the Shark!

    Customer review by SuthrnGirl

    5.0 stars by SuthrnGirl

I ordered the Haan SI-40 on mon, and received it today (wed). That's very fast standard shipping! This mop was a replacement for my Shark Pocket Steam Mop, which quit steaming and bit the dust after only a year and a half of use. I couldn't wait to test the Haan, so I immediately went to work! It came with 2 cleaning pads, a rubber mat, carpet glider, and packets of lime & scale remover. I love the removeable water container that's so easy to fill up and snap back into place. With the Shark, you had to lay it down flat on the floor and use the little pouring cup to pour the water into the machine, not convenient. The Haan also stands up on its own. The Shark did not, I had to prop it against a wall, not safe. The Haan has an on/off button on the front, yay! The Shark does not, and I HATE plugging & unplugging something into an outlet that's already powered up, NOT safe! The Haan only took about 20-25 seconds to get hot and start steaming, and the steam is continuous! With the Shark I had to keep pumping the handle to get steam, which meant inconsistent heat & steam. The Haan is much easier to push than my Shark Pocket Mop was. The whole "Pocket Mop" idea was cool b/c you could flip it over when one side got dirty and start using the clean side. But honestly, putting that thing on and taking it off was a hassle b/c you had to either lay the mop on the floor and bend over or sit on the floor to put it on, or try to lay the mop on the countertop without knocking stuff off or scratching the granite. Not fun. With the Haan, you set it on the rubber mat while it heats up, then simply set it down on top of the cleaning pad and start mopping. It cleaned my floors beautifully! I have about a 3,200 square foot home with all laminate wood, porcelein tile, and marble tile. I didn't mop my entire house, but tried it on all 3 types of floors and it did great. No streaks. I used almost 2 tanks of water and probably mopped about 2/3 of my house in about 35 min. I chose the Haan SI-40 Agile b/c it was $28 cheaper than the SI-60, and not much different. The SI-60 does have a longer cord. The SI-40 cord is only 19.5 feet long, but I was willing to save $28, and it's not that big of a deal to unplug and move to another outlet b/c it heats up so fast. The Haan does make a quiet ticking or "bubbling" sound when it's heating up. I actually like the sound it makes as it's working, it's like a low, therapeutic bubble sound. I am so surprised and excited about how much better the Haan is than the Shark! I have a bad back, and the Haan will be much easier to use! I just hope it lasts a lot longer than the Shark did. Thank you Wal Mart for offering this mop at the best price!

Love this mop. It has a larger head than popular steam mop. Steam is distributed out of 15 holes across the length of mop head. AND mop pads from "the popular steam mop" can be used with this mop. The mop itself is made from better material and you can get parts for if it needs to be repaired. LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! this mop.

I read consumer reports online and reviews by other customers and decided on the haan vs the shark. I had heard that the handles on the shark break easily. The haan agile is great, it goes around bathtubs/toilets and is easy to use. I haven't purchased any additional pads yet. When you clean the pads, the dirt easily comes out. Wonderful product I love it

    • Some how they stick to it I haven't had a problem with them sliding off. Once they get wet they stick.

    • Hook and loop like velcro. No problem gliding on tile. I've never tried wooden floors.

    • It works similar to velcro. The mop has a plastic rough surface on bottom, so all you do is place mop on top of pad and push, voila!

    • Velcro, and they do not come off, unless you mean to take them off. If they get super wet, you need to change them...still glides well, but overwets if the pad becomes saturated.

    • Stays on with heavy duty Velcro. Does not stop gliding when wet.

    • They attach with velcro and do not move while you are using it. They are very secure.

    • The velcro on the pad causes it to stick to the rough surface of the steamer. The pad doesn not come off. Some surfaces are a little harder than others to slide over.

    • They stay on with a Velcro-like fastening. No problem with them slipping off. And yes, when they get saturated you have to change to a new dry pad. One was enough to do my kitchen, but it's not very big.

    • I personally don't think it cleans the grout. You would have to clean the grout first and this will help keep the grout clean afterwards. It cleans stone nicely.

    • It cleans stone well. My grout has always required special cleaning about twice a year beyond what the steamer can do.

    • I've used it on grouted tile floors. It did a real nice job on the tile, but the grout still needs to be scrubbed.

    • no. Grout requires a toothbrush or some type of brush. I have also used Zep products in the past, and although they are made with strong chemicals, they work great!!

    • It couldn't clean the linoleum floor I have, so the likelihood it will clean stone tile with grout...very slim.

    • It works very well on red brick, not sure about stone...for the grout areas, it needs a little longer to steam, but works well on my grout.

    • It's OK - but we have new grouted tile floor - so I am not sure if the grout is really dirty how it would do.
