High quality cables, these really carry the amps better than cheaper, lighter guage units,

Two questions please. 1. Are the cables made with pure copper 2. What is the amperage rating of the cables? Thanks

  • A. Not sure what is meant by "pure copper", but they are high strand count copper and should flex well in cold weather and last for years. I would assume from the gauge and length 150 amps would be safe. More than a standard alternator will push for charging.

  • A. 1. Yes. But read the box. It may say "100% pure copper." maybe not. If not, the wire is pure Cu. If it's NOT pure CU, it HAS to be stated on the box somewhere. Odds are if it's CU, it's 100% Cu. Too expensive to mix it with anything. And even though CU is expensive right now, which will make Cu cables more pricey, they are still worth the money. I wouldn't worry about the amp rating - 4-ga Cu is heavy enough to get the job of jumping a dead battery done. Small wires wrapped with lots of insulation can't stand the amp draw - that's why they get hot and the insulation starts to melt - don't buy them; they can be dangerous and not worth the little bit of money you'll save. Hook them up according to the instructions in the owner's manual and you'll be fine. Also - just b/c you jumped the battery and got the car started, the battery is still almost dead, assuming it's still a good battery but died b/c the kids left the dome light on. Here's the point - the battery still needs to be charged on a battery charger and most people don't do that after they jump start their dead battery. They believe the alternator will take care of it. Not so - an alternator is NOT a batery charger. The alternator's job is to keep a fully charged battery fully charged. It is not designed to charge a dead battery. See the difference?
